i remember reading about this exahust system taht would give you about 50hp?? but cant find the post on the other board, i was just wondering for like 600-700 what kind of exahust can i get, and is there one that would give me that kind of power gainage, or was all i read pure BS.

u wouldnt get 50 HP horsepower out of Headers, catback exhaust and intake combined.

HKS also makes a nice exaust. Expect to gain 4-7 HP out of a cat-back system.

maybe by 50hp exhaust they mean no exhaust, like everything back from the downpipe. still it wouldnt be that much and it would be insanely loud.

if they are claiming 50 hp then it must be a turbo back exhaust for a wrx or turbo car without cats so its all free flow

Allot of the time they advertise "up to" so many hp. But for all you nkow that could have been on a big block high compression v8 that previously had 1 and 3/4 exaust, regular manifold, and all going into one muffler.

no, you cannot get that much power from exhaust, you would be lucky to get 25hp out of the whole thing considering the size ofyour engine. I would say about 70 percent of it comes from your headers. About 25% from piping. Maybe 5 percent from new fart cans. For my 3.0 liter, I can get 25 hp from headers alone.. but no more then 30 hp total, if I am lucky, but my setup would have to be perfect. -Jai

Are you kidding? Don't wanna sound like a jackass but there's no way you'll get 25 ponies from just headers. To get that kind of HP you'll need a full cat-back exaust, pulleys, intake, and headers. All that and you still won't get 25 hp.

It kinda can be true. For example for the intake, some people say u can get like 10-15 hp freed up. This you can get from an intake mod or pulley mod. You will only though get it at a certain spot on the rpm range. Or you can get that amount extra if you have something else like an exhaust etc. I think on the second generation CL the comptech headers give a large amount of HP. But that is a high number normally for that mod. I don't know the number exactly but it something in the 20 range. Correct me if i am wrong.

yea you are very wrong. there is no way your gonna get 10-15 from intake. youll get prolly like 4 hp max youll get like 7 and thats pushing it. I/H/E on a 4 cyl will give you at max like 15 hp. theres a lot of things you have to do to try and free up thats much Hp its not that easy at all.

My friend here in Hawaii has the comptech headers on his type S and he told me the gains were about 10 hp at the most.

I agree with you, but in an IDEAL situation you can get hp up there but normally which will probably take multiple tries. The website manufactuers have these dynos posted. I am sure they are not putting fake ones, they just misleading people to believe the gain is thru out.

In my opinion you probably get 0 hp gain under 4k, and then most u probably get from an intake is at like 4 hp at 7k. If you had headers and exhaust compared to stock. You will probably gain more hp compared to just having a stock intake.

Comptech headers on their website say it can give max of 32hp on the 3.2. I think some guys in the second gen posted that they got high numbers. But again it depends on the temp, humity, etc.

okay sorry, you guys are right, I exagerated. It is 20 hp. Someone on v6p.net had dynoed with the new stone headers that are coming out and he got a 20hp increase throughout the power band. The person that did get the 25 hp had the intake and the headers and maybe modified piping. My bad

Your not even gonna get 20 hp out of an exhaust. Like apoc said, an intake will only give 4-7 hp, and those usually give the same or more than an exhaust. You would not dyno 20 extra hp if you took the exhaust OFF.

I have a CAI and Flomaster exhaust in my 5speed 2.3 CL..I wasn't quite sure how much HP it would add, but I am a little sad to find out it's only 4-7..maybe I'm just crazy but I thought it made quite a difference. Anyways, what kind of power gain would I be looking at if I added headers? I thought of adding pulleys too but my friend has a 2.3 in an automatic and said he didnt notice much difference with the pulleys, just his headers. Would I get more power out of pulleys because of my manual tranny, or would the headers be a better investment?

If you guys are just trying to get your cars a little bit faster than the average CL i understand. But you have to relize that without spending lots of cash (over 2500), its not going to be fast. Add the best headers in the world, cut the rest of the exhaust, put the best intake on earth into it, you'll still gain maybe 25hp. Bolt on hp is hard enough to get, let alone with the small range of products there are for our cars out there. If you want a fast car either a)drop an h22 in and mod that, b) screw with the internals of the stock engine (not recommended, our engines don't like much internal work), or c) buy one. I love my CL, even though its not that fastest car around. And i will get the i/h/e just cause i want that little extra, but i don't plan on beating new age preludes or anything.

no, i'm planning about 1000 on all the mods for my car, and that includes a spoiler, bra, speakers, painted hood (it has some flaws from the previous owner), shortened shifter and the CAI and exhaust i've already added...i know its not a fast car, but i would like it to be a lil quicker if possible..and i want it to look even sexier
