Question 1999 cl crisis. Plz Help.

Grandson just bought a 1999 Acura CL 6 cyl and loaded. I noticed a couple of minor problems that I am going to show him how to fix but one problem stumps me. The passenger door does not open from the inside or outside. I pulled the interior panel thinking that the door rods came off. Not the case. The electrical door lock sounds like it is working but what do I know. 72 and getting older every minute.

Need some direction on how to get the door open. Visually can see anything sing every thing is covered i.e., white plastic,.

Any help would be of great assistance. Pictures would be great. My grandson is 16 so the pictures, if any, would of great assistance.

Thanks in advance.

Probably have more questions in the future.

Sir, see the link below.

https://acurazine.com/forums/1g-cl-p...utside-939093/

Before you do anything make sure the latch is unlock, maybe that's why the door is not opening. It could be simple as the linkage fell off at the latch so check that first.

The big rod is for the door handle. Just push base of the rod down to open the door (outside door handle). For inside you will need to pull up where the rod meets the latch to open the door. Just follow the rods to the latch to find the attachment location.

Small/short rod is to lock and unlock the door. There's 2, one at lock cylinder (key) and the other is inside manual lock/unlock. Just follow these to the latch and move it back and forth or side to side to lock or unlock.

Do all of the above at the latch not necessarily by using the rods/linkage. If the rod did come off at the latch then use the rod as a guide to show you the area where it was attached before.

If you can't see inside the door, try using a camera phone to get a video or photo of the area to help with the visual.

Thanks so much for the input. Great picture and discussion. Only have one more question before I go and try the suggested method. Do I have to take the door glass out??

By the way, it is the passenger door. I am assuming that the process is the same. Tried the unlock manually and electrically, but does not make any difference, still won't open. When I pull down on the rod from the outside handle, I have full travel and I can see the handle lift but still does not open.

Correct left/right doors are the same just mirror opposites. You should not have to remove the door glass. However, you might need to remove the rear run channel to replace the latch.

Removing rear run channel (door glass).

1. Row the door window all the way up.

2. Pull the run channel weather strip out of the run channel as much as possible. Starting from the bottom.

3. Run channel is usually held on by one 10mm bolt at the bottom and pegged at the top (still inside the door). Remove the lower bolt and pull down on the run channel to release/remove. If it doesn't break free then look for another bolt at the top.

Your Welcome.

Now a generic question. Are Honda parts and acura parts interchangeable. The coupes look the same too me. By the way, I see your NorCal. I'm in Sac near Elk Grove.

Again, thanks for all your help. Saving me a lot of time,

We are neighbors. The Honda and Acura part is interchangeable if the part numbers match exactly. Otherwise, no.

You can find out part numbers by plugging in your car info to a dealer's parts website and then pulling up the part in question. Then plug that part number into a Honda parts website.

Tried everything with the mechanism without success. I did see a video where I have to pull down on a small tab to open. Willing to try that but not sure how to get the plastic covers (white and black off) The white appears to have two small screws on top. Do both of these come out to removed?? The black is over the lock rod from the inside. How do I get it off?

Remove the 3 screws. These hold the actuator. Top screw holds the actuator and black cover.

Problem Solved

Finally got the door latch open and thus the door. I did one thing that was different than the video I mentioned. I am sure you have seen the video that talks about fitting a hook type tool in between the metal and the plastic. I attempted that with little success however, since I had to replace the latch anyway, I stuck a flat tip screwdriver under the metal piece and bent it up and out. Gave me EASY ACCESS and had the door open in less that 5 seconds.

Appreciate the help. Would have never gotten it open without your help.,

I now have a new problem of sorts. Opening a new thread for input. 1990 Acura CL Power Steering.

Again, looking for advice.

By the Way, HAPPY THANKSGIVING.
