Upgrades of 2018 TLX over the 2017 model

Let's list all the upgrades of the fully loaded Canadian version 2018 TLX Elite Aspec over the 2017:

Pentagon grill
19 inch wheels
Aspec design
Apple Carplay and Android Auto
Wireless phone charging
Red Milano leather seats and door trims
Auto thigh bolstering on drivers seat
Improved transmission
Improved suspension/ride quality
Higher feeling quality interior
Exhaust pipes on the higher trims
Push button shifter
Interior ambient lighting
Touch sensors on all four door handles

Anything else I missed?

Push button shifter came with all 2015 and newer TLX V6 models - some don't consider it an upgrade

I'm pretty sure touch sensors on all four door handles are also available on my 15 Elite.

Would add red accented instrument cluster and alcantara seats.

How about the 360 degree surround camera?

I just noticed that the two rotary controls on the steering wheel (for volume and Info) now make a very satisfying "click" as you turn it.

And the on/off button for the audio is now integrated into the volume button itself on the head unit.

Not sure if these are "upgrades" per se, but if you're tracking the changes...

When I was checking out the 2018 tlx at my dealer, I noticed the volume knob on the headunit doesn't retract anymore! I always thought it was a funny feature being able to "hide" the volume knob

That's only in Canada, down here only the front 2 doors have it.

anyone have any ideas as to why the MPG dropped by 1 even though its the same engine/transmission? Did the car get heavier?

I could swear I read somewhere that it was just the new fuel economy guidelines which caused the estimates to drop. There's nothing so significantly different that would affect real fuel economy numbers so much from '17 to '18.

Could be the new EPA testing model affected the numbers? That was supposed to change in 2017.
Excerpt from their site about the change: https://www.epa.gov/fueleconomy/basi...onomy-labeling

"All things being equal, this update will cause some MPG values to go down by 1-2 MPG relative to the previous calculations. However, auto manufacturers may make other changes from one model year to the next that also affect fuel economy values, such as using different tires or changing transmission shift logic. Not all changes to MPG values in 2017 models can be attributed to the updated calculations."

Some subtle changes from my 15 to my 18. The navi (graphics still are meh) is much easier to use. The HVAC is way easier to use. No more entering menus to change fan speed or location. Just press the icon multiple times to change settings.

The rear view camera shows true colors now though it's still not much use at night since there's no light back there other than the tails.

That doesn't sound right. I thought back-up lights had been required for many years.

Guys can correct me if I'm wrong. If I recall correctly there was a camera assist light on my 2014 TL that improved the night time capture of the camera.

I've had an '18 Advance for about a week (US model), here are some differences from my '15 Advance not already mentioned.

Upgrades:
Walk Away Auto Lock
Auto High Beams
Electric Heated Windshield
Heated Steering Wheel
Heated Rear Seats
Auto Retractable Mirrors
Improved Auto Idle Stop - engine shuts down right when you come to a stop instead of idling for 3 more seconds, which eliminates the jerkiness.
Both '18 remotes have engine start button - In '15, I received one remote with engine start and one without.
Interior Ambient Pipe Lighting
Improved Seats w/ Contrast Piping and Stitching
SiriusXM 2.0 with Tune Mix - Save 4 favorite SXM channels as a preset and Tune Mix will create a playlist and allow you to skip to the next song. I suspect SXM uses a small portion of the HDD because you can now pause, fast forward, rewind and replay songs from the beginning on preset channels.
HD Traffic - Traffic conditions on Navi are more up to date and precise.

Downgrades:
Seat Belt E-Pretensioner is no longer available on the '18. I liked that the seat belts pulled tight when cornering in my '15. Seat belt retraction is no longer a function of Collision Mitigation Braking.
I liked the dual storage compartment under the radio, the Wireless Charging pad now takes up the lower storage space. I have a dedicated iPod in the USB port and I fear the charging pad may heat it up so I turned off the charging pad but will use it with a new phone. A second USB port under the center arm rest would've been a good option.

All in all a complete upgrade from '15, not to mention the tranny is much smoother.

Also:
-The 2-piece expanded view driver's side mirror is no more
-A flashing light "heads up" warning added for the CBMS (wasn't on the 2015 tech version)
-HDD track info (song title) now can display in instrument cluster
-The fuel fill pipe is now set off on an angle, rather than perpendicular to body as before
-Strangely, the driver's and passenger's side a/c vents are still chrome and still reflect in the side mirrors- despite the availability of matte black replacements for several years, and the fact that all MDX's now have flat black vents as standard.

Do you mean the lock buttons on the door handle? Or it unlocks with a pull of the rear doors also?

All four doors have a sensor on the inside of the exterior handles that allow you to unlock the doors without using the key or the fob. You can also lock the doors by depressing the button on any of the four door handles.

That's good to know the door lock button is on all 4 doors. I thought I read somewhere that it was only on the front 2 doors. I have this on our 2014 MDX and it's convenient. Shut the front door, as you walk past the rear doors push the lock button. . .

Or, you don't have to press ANY of the 4 buttons to lock the car!! You can select a new 2018 feature in Settings, that will allow the car to automatically lock itself when you walk away, as long as you have the FOB in your pocket and you don't walk away "too fast" from the car to detect.
