Type S confirmation, Date?

Sounds like I keep hearing confirmed Type S for the TLX. Anyone know the release date?

1) My salesman (yes I know salesmen lie always), confirmed to me "Type S is on the way" today via email.

2) " he (acura corporate) mentioned that there will be a TLX Type S that “may” have either a turbo option" https://acurazine.com/forums/third-g...type-s-961264/

So do we know if its a 2019, 2020? Any indications?

iforyou 11-06-2017 01:11 PM

I doubt there's a Type S for the 1st gen TLX. May be next gen there will be one.

Tony Pac 11-06-2017 01:41 PM

I am not calling your salesman a liar but this isn't true for sure. I believe there will be a "Type S" as of 2020 model releasing by the end of 2019 (if that's when the 2nd gen of TLX is coming.)
Anyway, we need a couple of good Acura cars with 400HP :)

ZipSpeed 11-06-2017 01:44 PM

I'm okay with a V6T or 2.0T w/SH-SH-AWD. My lease ends in 2020 August, so hopefully there will be something funner by then.

Well end of 2019 isn't that far away at all in car model years :)

The other thread I linked, corporate Honda person told our other forum member about it (2), and then when my salesman ALSO mentioned it, I figured, if its really coming, should be good news! :)

GhostTL09 11-07-2017 12:20 PM

Imagine the options only being SH-AWD Tech, Advance, A-Spec or Type-S. Hmmmmmm sounds yummy

TacoBello 11-07-2017 12:25 PM

As mentioned, is one coming? Likely.

is it coming for the 1G TLX? Doubtful.

is it coming for the 2G TLX? More likely.

and to be honest, the next gen TLX isn't that far away.

So Im a salesman at a dealership in Southern California, here are the facts we know: Yes there will be a type s. When? One day, eventually. We pray Acura steps it up and launches it in 2020 when the TLX is due for redesign. However, so far Acura has only had type s out in the 4th and 5th year of that generation (2002 2003 2007 and 2008). So who really knows!

Im hoping that Acura's "type s" is the NSX set up with a V6 twin turbo and Sport Hybrid All Wheel Drive!

One fun fact one guy told us that all Acura's will have a Aspec model, including the future RDX and MDX. Sounds cool to me!

Thank you kindly. If I knew a member here was a local salesman, I would have given that person the business.

dmski 11-09-2017 03:53 PM

It's coming but not any time soon. It will be released with 2ng gen TLX. For their sake, I hope it will be released with first year model and not 2-3 years into the life cycle. Either way, I would not touch this right away. I can only imagine all the potential issues this car could be plagued with especially with all new power plants.

jhb31 11-09-2017 07:39 PM

The manager of the dealer by me told me a few months back that Acura will have a type S variant for all models not just the TLX. It's probably a couple years away at this point.

GhostTL09 11-10-2017 09:40 AM

I can see Aspec across all models but not a Type-S
MDX Type-s LOL

I can only speculate. I think it will be released in 2019, as a 2020 model. Really, it should be in 2018, as a 2019 model... but I dunno how long Acura will plan to actually milk the MMC for.

the TLX has been around for 2015, 2016, and 2017. We are now on 2018. Generally Acura does five year life cycles. So yeah... all of 2019, with a new model at the end of it, I'd say.

Just passing along what the manager told me. He was well ahead on what the 2018 model TLX would have and I specifically asked him what he heard about the tlx coming out with a type S and he heard at the meetings all models will likely have a type S variant when it comes out. Anyway for the cost of the A-spec it should have type S upgrades as well. Really it makes sense since the tlx needs it and the RDX/MDX already sell well and they are not cheap so people will pony up for some more performance.

will the mdx/rdx type S be like F sport cosmetics in Lexus or actual performance upgrades ?

I think he or you are confused.
Nexx, who does work for acura....has hinted at Aspecs for all models, not type-s'

WHICH would make a lot more sense.
it would be easier to pump out the aspec bumper trims. Just like how they did with the TLX.

I think you are super confused on what a type-s and aspec are...

aspec has always been about aero...
NO engine upgrades with aspec... it has ALWAYS been about aero and improving drag co-effiecient with the aspec package.

the type-s package has always been a bump in power.
unless, acura is giving each model SH-SHAWD with the bump in power to 377, it wont be called the type-s

2012wagon 11-14-2017 09:31 AM

A-SPEC across all models make perfect sense.

justnspace 11-14-2017 09:37 AM

Nexx has also hinted at a TLX type-S. but that sounds like it's slated for a later release. maybe 2nd generation TLX. (it would fall in line with the PCP tagline and Performance crafted concept.)
what we do know, and what every one in the industry is hinting at; ASPEC for each model...MDX, RDX, RLX, ILX, TLX

which is just re-worked aggressive bumpers and MAYBE a slight drop for body control/roll.

Although the performance side of things sounds mighty interesting, I'm REALLY looking forward to the new RDX to see how the inside will look like. If the car has a good engine but inferior ergonomics like the Lexus IS, it'll still be a pass for me.

justnspace 11-14-2017 10:23 AM

^the RDX is the first in the line up to get the PCP treatment!
the concept interior was awesome! let's hope it gets translated well into production cars

justnspace 11-14-2017 10:25 AM

2018 could be the turning point for Acura. :wish:

I watched the review for the RLX last night on Redline Reviews. . I think that car looks really bad. Interior still has the same head unit without Car Play! The exterior just doesn't look right. A lot of chrome etc. I'm really hoping Acura gets on it's game for their next round of releases.

is it possible the rlx demographic wants chrome and doesn’t know car play exists?

the car looks great much improved. it did puzzle me that there is no AA or Car Play. its the only Acura built in Japan still so I wonder if that had anything to do with it. Type-S will not be a 2.0T and it will not be naturally aspirated.

justnspace 11-14-2017 02:36 PM

SH-SHAWD with 377!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this gen or next gen???

That is the question

2012wagon 11-14-2017 02:36 PM

3.5TT?

Yumm :D

That could be right! Being 48, I hope I'm not in that demographic because I thought the car looked really ugly.

I saw that video too, at first I thought it was a TLX! The interior feels too cheap for the price, not even real wood. I think the MDX has real wood, if that's the case they really screwed the pooch on this one for a MMC. Not having the new MMI is a big no-no, absolutely no excuse for this one. Especially since they had time to add a new transmission ... the TLX would have benefited from the 10sp, but instead gets the new MMI. Go figure lol

It's because Apple car play or Android auto is not technology related to Automobile. :O

dmski 11-14-2017 06:10 PM

@Nexx, the new Type S will come out right away with the launch of 2nd Gen TLX or are we looking at release with MMC which unfortunately is the way Acura released S in the past.

NBP04TL4ME 11-14-2017 06:48 PM

This is all very interesting / exciting. I'm still driving my 08 TL-S and looking forward to what comes next as I'm hoping it will be my next ride. :wish:

No confusion here. Owned a Type S, brother had one too. Have an A-Spec now. I certainly know the difference between a type S and the current A-spec. My source is the GM at the local acura dealer that attends all the corporate meetings. He knows the difference as well. The A-spec while nice is not going to move the needle on other models. I actually argued with him that there is no reason to dilute the a tlx aspec across other models but he said not true. They want to expand it out when released. Time will tell.
