TLX or Q50?
What's up folks? Wife just picked up a 2015 TLX V6 Advanced Package. I love the look and feel of it. Nice power. Love the features. Especially the remote start and push button ignition(I don't have those on my 08 TL of course. Lol). But it kind of got me in a....conundrum. Looking at the next car I'd get in about 2 years. Before it was a solid 2015-16 Infiniti Q50 Sport. Now it's a mix between the two. One thing I look at when picking a car is the ability to modify it. That's just how I've always been. The TLX looks great factory. Same for the Q50. But I wanted to see ask you folks a couple questions:
-What modifications have you done?
-Have yall had any problems after modifying your TLX?
-I saw one thread where the guy hated the ride after adding coils to his 2018. Is the 2015-16 the same way? Anyone hate their car after the drop?
-Would you do coils or springs?
I don't think I'd be going for the "fitment/wrong fitment" look on this next vehicle. Might end up just being a nice DD. The 08 TL I have will probably end up seeing a supercharger if I decide to keep it. Not sure yet.
Have any of you looked at the Q50 Sport and TLX and chose the TLX over the Q50? If so, why?

You two have an uncanny attraction to cars with problems. I'd research these choices a bit before pulling the trigger. I think the folks that choose the 2015 TLX over the 2015 Q50 did so because of the long list of issues with the 2015 Q50. That is until the 2015 TLX transmission issue made them both problem cars.

Lol. Sorry. It's a nice car. But I can't bring myself to own a Buick. It screams....I'm old. Hahaha. Except the Buick Regal.

I sat in the GS V6, it is a car that I would enjoy, but.... no paddle shifts or buttons really ?????? Even a fr*ing base Equinox 4-cyl I drove had buttons behind the steering wheel. I love to have control on the engine RPM and I use paddle shifts daily in my TLX. It is my therapy for not having a manual, I guess. Secundo, the financing terms may translate in an expensive proposition, if you don't buy it and keep it long term.
That Open Insignia (aka Buick Regal) is really nice.
The Q50's interior leaves me cold, otherwise a fine car.

The interior of the Q50 is....meh. It's not "OMG" but it's not "Ugh...this sucks". Lol. I'll have to go test drive one to see if I feel right in it. After all, that's where I'll be spending most of the time. The wife's TLX is nice. Looks sporty on the interior but it's comfortable at the same time.

I can count the times I have had a use for paddle shifters since 2003 on one hand. Used in tandem with putting the transmission into manual shift mode in very slippery snow conditions. And in those cases the paddles are just an alternate control to the shift lever.
I find them completely unnecessary.

I had both...Q50S still in the driveway.
Stillen splitter, Stillen diffuser, 20" Niche Vicenza's, Z1 intake tubes, Infiniti sport exhaust.
Biggest decision point was having to have a new ZF transmission installed at 14k on the TLX and STILL having hunting issues.

Yeah. The transmission issue the TLX has got me reconsidering getting one. My wife has the V6 and I can feel the transmission when it feels like it's stuck between two gears. Kinda nerve urking.
The final thing is to go test drive one soon as I can. Gonna take a day and go to one of the dealerships and take one out for a drive.

Having personally been there and done that, I would take out my wallet and deal with issue now. Haven't looked back since.

OP, if i'm reading this right, you'll both be driving Sedans? I mean, I know this is a little off topic, but why not try a hatch, one of the four wagons offered in the US, or a small SUV?

So feature wise, I understand. Honestly, the TLX will come with more with the Advanced package. Remote start and more. Whereas the Q50, I'll have to make sure the Sport I find has remote start. That's a key feature to me. Next car HAS to have remote start. Non-negotiable. Lol. On the Q50, the Premium might have it but I'll lose the factory 19s and sport calipers. *sigh* I'll have to look more into it to see if the Sport has it. If not, the TLX will take the cake. Don't want to spend an extra $600+ for an OEM remote start to add to the Q50. Don't want an aftermarket remote start for it so going that route isn't an option either.
Hatches are nice. But none that I like will come with what I'm looking for power or feature wise. The Focus RS is nice, but I don't want a Ford. The Type R, if I find them pre-owned, is nice but I'd be driving on pins and needles every day. Hoping it doesn't get dinged or paint chipped on my way to and from work. Nor do I want a manual for DD again. Did that on my TSX. While nice on days I wanted to feel "sporty" on the way home, it sucked in traffic. Audi is out because I haven't a clue on how to work on an Audi and I don't want to have to drive an hour in order to get to the closest Audi dealer to get it worked on.

So BS. My car is doing great and I totally enjoy it.. Don't spread stupid rumors.
If the price is right, cars with it are rare and you want it, why not? This may even be used as an argument to negotiate better with the seller.

And with it being in our system, I can go to the dealership and check out the vehicle. When they bring me the key and it doesn't have the remote start button on it, I can test drive it still with no obligation of thinking I wasted the sales person's time.

I'm constantly on www.autotempest.com (scours ALL Car buying sites..cars.com, cargurus, autotrader, and even craigslist.)
I'm always looking at the early SQ5's. you can find them in the mid $20's.
for the price that's pretty much comparable to most used sports cars today

Currently, at my doctor’s office and there’s a dark grey SQ5 in the lot. Aside from the exhaust outlets, it’s a real sleeper and looks like all the other Q5s on the road. I like that.

That may be one of my favorite parts of the Audi S models. They're fast but not overly showy

Three times higher than my budget. Lol.
Meh...Still an Audi. I crossed Audi off the list. They're nice. But I don't have any means of keeping up with the maintenance cost. From what I've seen so far, owners I've talked to and research I've done, Lexus, Infiniti and Acrua are the three that are great when it comes to entry level luxury and reliability. Lexus got taken off the list...for now, because of the IS350 having a bad rating on a crash test I watched. Also no back seat space or trunk space either. I'd love to have a GS350. They look great. But...Not for the DD. It handles....bulky. Lol.

So ever since 2011 when Buick came out with the Regal GS I always liked the car as an alternative to the TLX, Q50, S60, ect ect. I hate top sound like snob but at the end of the day you are left with a Buick which most people still consider this faux luxury brand that only old people drive and is a car that depreciates rapidly. Now hands down the Sportback, TourX, and GS are simply more compelling than any Q50 or TLX but fast forward 5 years from now when the tech in the car has become outdated and many miles have been put on it, I just feel that you still will be driving an old person's car. Honestly the way sedan sales are going I think Infiniti and Acura need to adapt and produce more wagon and GT type cars like the Regal offers. One of the huge reasons I was attracted to the Kia Stinger was not only the massive performance per dollar but the practically of a 4 door GT hatch.
Lol. Mazda has stepped up their game. We have a 2017 CX-5 here on the lot and it actually looks good. Hate the ergonomics though. People are getting on the "radio knob" being next to the arm rest thing. It's annoying to me.

I'd look into getting a 3.0T Silver Sport, look for a used one. Get a JB4 and you're putting out close to Red Sport Power, get an EcuTek Tune and you'll be at 420HP and 500 LB FT at the wheels. Or you can just get a 2016 Used Red Sport and have power right out the box. A TLX performance or looks wise just doesn't cut it or compare.

While it’s very true that the V6 TLX’s performance doesn’t come near that of the Q50 V6 (3.7 or 3.0TT), it does make up for it in terms of fuel economy.
I came close to getting a 3.7 at the time I picked up the TLX. Fuel economy was one of the reasons why I chose accordingly.

This is why I'm also thinking about getting the Q50 Hybrid Sport. Has the fuel economy boasting 29cty/36hwy and the features I like. But the "Steering By Wire" seems to have people not like it since it "detracts" from the actual steering feel. Which is understandable since well...there's no real mechanical steering. And that kind of bothers me as well.

Yeah. I've seen the dyno from the JB4 on the 3.0t. Very nice indeed. I was looking at getting a pre-owned Q50 or TLX. Nothing new. The JB4 is only like $400-500. 15min install and I'm at Red Sport numbers. That I love. But my only question would be about the reliability of the JB4 after having it installed. And normally, tunes help better fuel economy. Not sure if that would be the same for the JB4. Have some more things to look up.

Nissan engines do seem to be built like tanks. I know the 3.7 is able to handle near 600hp on stock internals. It's actually the torque that destroys the stock engine... I believe anything over 450ftlbs will require built internals. The 3.0T being turbo'd from the factory likely can exceed that torque value with ease.

I wouldn't worry about the JB4 since it's just a boost controller and it's not traceable. There are several people who have had the JB4 for over a year and thousands of miles with no issues. It's not as aggressive as a Tune. Nissan obviously did something to beef up the internals and transmission to be able to handle big power because there are several members with aggressive tunes putting out 440+ HP to the wheels and crazy amounts of torque and have done no tranny or engine upgrades with no issues. These aren't even the red sports with the extra water pump etc. I even saw a Silver Sport putting out close to 600 Pounds of Torque on the stock Turbo's. You'll run into traction problems before anything else.
Not looking to add gobs of power. But the 400hp mark would be nice. Lol.
