TLX prototype at Atlanta Auto Show
To my surprise the TLX prototype was within hands reach at the Atlanta Auto Show. I would rather see the production model but it was cool to see the prototype in person. It is truly a awesome looking design. It was one of the best looking sedans at the show for sure. It would have been nice if it was a actual working car and not a concept shell. I'm going to assume it had a mock ABS molded chassis with the actual metal outer body panels , working lights, doors, glass and grill bolted on. It had a plastic underbody cover with no visible mechanical parts. It was probably pulled up to the show floor by a forklift. The interior was a fake design with a black cover just below the headrest line from the front to back. The air vents looked like a sticker. The body was actually It was all just for looks and its sole purpose was to display the exterior design.
The Acura reps all confirmed that the production model will be at the N.Y. Auto Show in April. Acura will not tell them anything about the TLX. Even they are frustrated about the " Big Secret" . I will be sure to post specs and photos as soon as they send them to me.

That is my prediction but we won't know for sure until next winter. That being said, at the rate we are going up here, we may be able to test the rear thud in sub freezing temperatures in July!
The reason I feel confident is that most people that call customer relations, they all get the "The car is behaving as it was designed...its normal"....therefore, one has to conclude that the noise is a characteristic of the vehicle. I mean every brand wants to have something that seperates them from the competition, maybe this is what our brand is after
In any event, I hear great things about the concept car and by the reviews, it is spectacular. I am REALLY impressed with teh photos of teh concept so I can only imagine how great in looks in person because Acura has never looked good in pictures. Now I just hope they don't give us the imported model that we have seen on TOV because that will be the final nail in their casket.

I can't at least tell you think about the TLX to ease the "Secret" aspect of the TLX....The interior will be super quiet until you hit a pot hole or a drain when its cold and it will feel like the rear suspension is bottoming out".

The show in ATL was much better than the DC Auto Show. ATL had most of the concepts and new production models shown in Detroit. I was surprised they even had the new Audi S3 and the BMW M4.

Yep, and it was much better than last year's show. I thought it was interesting that Benz didn't participate again this year.

After all of the auto shows I've been too over the past 9-10 years, this is only the second time I've seen a large crowd around an Acura display (the first time was with the new NSX). There was a nice cross-section of people and they were gawking at it. I must say it looks better in person than in pics, and I thought it was pretty striking...especially with the color.
Listen, Acura, can't you do a "premium" colour that will charge the customers extra dollars (a la BMW, Audi, MB, Cadillac) just so that we can get this red colour!? I would gladly pay extra just to get this colour!!!

Since the unveiling of the real thing is about 2 weeks away in NYC, I guess the Atlanta show was the last one they show it.
So what happens to the prototype after? Crush it? Store it? Museum? ebay? lol.

The color truly is stunning! If Acura reads these blogs and understands that their potential consumers are impressed with "Athletic Red", they would be wise to offer at least one bolder color such as the one on the prototype.

Summer is Coming
On a more serious note, I think the TLX will turn out to be a good car for Acura. The styling isn't polarizing like the early 4G was. They may be disappointing their enthusiast base, but they will appeal more to the market place in general. This car will sell if they price it right. If they over-price it like the ILX and RLX it will get off to a bad launch. I think it could do 50,000 a year, and I suspect the biggest sellers will be the I4's since I suspect they will price the V6's too high.

It's interesting to see the front "fangs" similar to the new C7 Corvette Stingray.

Thank you again for telling me about the auto show. I don't think I ever would have learned about it if I didn't see your post. It was a really good surprise for my trip down there.
