TLX Dealer Serice I4Hit the big 60k today. Went in for an oil change today, and I knew I would be hit with a price sheet of "Recommended Services." Few questions because I have yet to master the Acura service consultants and their schemes. I only did the basic oil/filter/rotation, but they also wanted to flush trans fluid for the 2nd time, induction service for the 2nd time, flush coolant, A/C service, and brake fluid for the 2nd time. They also said that there is major wear on the front shock absorbers. WHAT SHOULD I GET DONE?? Is Honda able to do these services at a cheaper price??
I came across this chart that says different from what the dealer said. Comments would be helpful. Thanks.

Honda should be able to do the services at cheaper prices. Keep in mind that their systems may not have access to Acura diagrams and walkthroughs. I used to work at Honda years ago and used to bring my old 07 TL there for services. Some of the major work they had a bit of trouble finding, but it just depends how resourceful the technicians are as the cars between the two are very similar and alot of them even use interchangeable parts. We just pay the premium as owners of a "luxury" brand.

As for changing the transmission fluid again, as you can see it says every 30k-40k miles, so they're right on time. For that shock absorber, if you feel unsure then take it in for a second opinion.

Follow the service schedule in your manual and the Maintenance Minder. Dealers absolutely love to up-sell everything that they can think of....my guy comes up with crap that is "recommended"....so that he can put his kid through college.
The best solution if you are at all handy is to use this forum and esp. the DYI section for basic work.
As dezymond said, stay on top of the transmission fluid changes since that is a "new" Acura transmission.

What Maintenance Minder code are you getting? I think if you follow it, it'll walk you through all maintenance except brake fluid, which is every 3 years.


The other thing, if they're wanting to actually FLUSH the transmission fluid and coolant, I'd drop that dealer. They should only be doing drain and fills.

The few times I have taken my TLX in for service there was usually some software recall that they performed. Keep in mind that Honda cannot perform recalls on Acura cars and vice versa. This is one reason I like to return to the Acura dealer every year or so. This way my car gets all the necessary recalls.
