I've owned the 2g TL,3g TL TYPE s, and the 4g 2011 TL. My family has been buying Honda for the past 30 years It would be an understatement to say that I'm in the Acura/Honda family.

I'm going to pass on this car.

how is it crap? I don't see any point to your argument. this car is absolutely gorgeous.. the two powertrain options are great in my opinion. you have a base 2.4L with an 8Speed tranny and the top of the line 3.5L 9 speed transmission. and design wise? this car looks appealing to me in every way and at every angle, it is a beautiful vehicle. I don't know what else you want from an Acura vehicle. I'm happy to see the TSX and TL go away to make way for this thing. Excited for the official launch!

My car ('13 TSX) and the 4th gen TL looks soooo weak compared to this. TLX and the 3rd gen TL are my favorites.

Really? The side profile of all the cars in this segment look the same. Its a body style like pickup, minivan, coupe, 4 door. Dumb example. The look of the car isn't its silhouette. Its the way the lights, grille, fogs, skirts, wheels and more look.

And the Acura grille looks good. People that still complain about it shouldn't be buying into the brand then. It is what sets it apart from every other brand. BMW got shit for its kidney grille back in the day but people suck it up now. This car is going to do really well if Acura pack it with reliable tech.

Explain it away however you want, it's boring. Jason Torchinsky was on point calling it something you'd lose in a parking lot. These profiles aren't just similar, they're identical. It was not always this way.

Acura needed something striking but not ugly. They've done striking, they've done ugly, now they seem afraid to do anything but fall in line (With a bunch of lower-tier vehicles, I might add!).

Well lets see you come out with a design purely viewed from the side that is economical, with a low drag coefficient and imaginative styling that you can live with on a day to day basis. Not to mention safe as well. When was it any different? Point out some models that you consider exciting and then we can talk. Until then its pointlessly finding fault.

When Acura did something out of the norm everyone complained it was ugly. Personally I love the 4G. Especially ones with aftermarket mods. People wanted to go back to the older design and that is what has been provided. Low sales will drive any company to follow the norm. People hated the 4G's looks. I thought it was the only unique car on the road. Would never confuse that for something else. The 4G with blacked out windows and with the aero kit is still my all time favorites. Even with the beak.

Honda doesn't just build car that look pretty they spend their time where its needed the most. Driving dynamics. If the car drives as well as it looks it'll be a great addon. So far they haven't disappointed.

I don't agree with the OP, but I also don't agree with this post. Jealous cuz the 4G didn't come with a cassette deck?

The schnozz on the 09-11 was gross, but even that had vastly improved interior over the 3G. The 3G was pretty for its time, but even the KIA Optima looks better than it now. The "I hate everything but the 3G TL" idiots remind me of the "Bring back the late 80's early 90's Legend" trolls.

3G is a good looking design, but it's not God's gift to automotive beauty. It's a 10 year old, FWD Honda design, and even the hyped "Type-S" model a negligible HP bump over the base 09. Get over yourself.

This new design doesn't look bad - definitely not as offensive as the 09 design when it first came out, although the part that people hated the most is even bigger than on the 12-14 - that being the "shield" grill. Yet, for some reason, even the haters over at Autoblog love this new one. The only reason I can think is that, as has been posted above, it doesn't look THAT different than most of the other new "sport sedans" on the road. The only thing that differentiates it is that unlike the GM and KIA above it won't have shit go wrong with it constantly.

I bet they'll sell a ton of these.

just dont buy the first year production models because they usually have a lot of issues. just look at how the rlx is doing. so many threads on having issues with a new car

for all the haters out there....keep in mind ppl need time to get used to the car. when the 2004 TL first came out, there were some negative reviews on the looks too. Just look back at some posts 10 years ago. But couple years later everyone changed their minds.

I agree. I was hoping against hope that the chassis would be based on the bigger car, not the Accord, but I knew it was unlikely.

They also left a lot of unanswered questions...the interior...the combinations of 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder, and which ones had P-AWS and SH-AWD.

Do they have to put 500 of the twin turbo TLX GT into the public's hands if it's going to be the RTR World Challenge car?

We're still missing some juicy details, it seems to me.

But...enough of a hit that I agree with you that it'll probably boost Acura.

Funny you mention that. The one thing I was afraid of was that the TLX would cause me to regret buying an RLX Advance.

This. Personally the 09-11's turned me off to the TL and because of the schnozz I didn't even go in and look at one. I defected and went through an Evo X, a Mazda 3, and then to a used 06 RL before I was in the dealer and saw the '12's, which I gave a second look at and ended up buying.

Looks are 100% subjective, and you're not going to keep everyone happy all the time. It's not possible. I think the Alfa 8C is one of the prettiest cars ever made, but people hate the looks of it. Same with the MB 190 Evolution II.

I think this new TLX will sell like crazy. I don't like the fact that there's no manual, so I'll stick with my 12 and when it's time to switch, go elsewhere, but I'm aware of the fact that a majority of drivers don't want to actually DRIVE a car themselves, so I'm not going to say it's garbage because it doesn't have one.

Hey George...I thought I heard on the release announcement that the PAWS as going on the 4 cylinder (with the dual clutch tranny) while the SH-AWD (and improved version) was going on the V6 with the 9 speed tranny.

I agree the interior is still an unknown....and I think the "I don't think it does" comment is inappropriate. Still many unknown to determine whether or not the RLX or the TLX is best suited for your need....but I have to say that when I saw the RLX concept, I was underwhelmed and it does look MUCH better in person. I can only dream of how great this thing will look in the flesh. Acura is know for being non photogenic....that in itself is getting me really excited.....and wait till we see the accessories

i64x....I wonder if they will keep the stick for the 2.4 Turbo. A member on Motortrend claimed to be associated with Acura (didn't say his position) but confirms the 2.4 turbo is coming either in the MMC or next year....that could be the ideal place to slide a stick in.

Acura released a photo on Facebook (and I'm sure elsewhere) detailing the options.

2.4L 4 cyl 8 speed dual clutch with PAWS
3.5L 6 cyl 9 speed auto with PAWS
3.5L 6 cyl 9 speed auto with SH-AWD

Those are the options.

Honda tried a turbo with the RDX and the gas mileage was awful. Maybe someday they'll start doing it again, but I doubt it'll be on this. He may be on to something though, because I've heard (through sources that will be un-named, friends that work for a Honda supplier) that they have seen specs for the 2016 Civics and they will be offered in two options on the high-end - a Si, which will be a 2.4L NA car with the only trans option being a dual clutch option (that trans has all but been confirmed today in this car), and a 2.0L turbo Type-R model that will be offered exclusively with a 6 speed manual transmission. Spec sheets were in Japanese but the parts yield count were accounted for the US as well, suggesting that we would get the Type-R here, since the Civic platform is moving to a "world platform" for MY2016 like the Focus did in this last generation.

I'm looking forward to that.

I dont like the new TL. the face is nothing new.
body line is worse than Mazda.
The tail is just a desarster, like some Nissan or Toyota's family car.
The designers just lost the spirit of a Acura.
The New Mdx and Rdx are also too round and fat like middle age lady.
Disappointed.

^^ While I will never dispute your opinion, I do not share your view on the TLX. Looks are purely subjective and I can appreciate that the design language of the TLX will not please everyone, and obviously, you are one of them. I have seen the new Audi A3 in the flesh and that is a gorgeous car too....have you seen that one? That might be something more along your taste?

You won't find a dual clutch transmission in the same class as the TLX. I agree the body styling could be a little more aggressive, but we haven't seen the finished product yet. This is only the first generation of the TLX and there is still room for improvements in the future. With the advancements in the performance, an more aggressive styling with follow. Who knows, there might even be a Type S version too.
