2015 TLX Aero Kit Pros/Cons

I'm thinking of getting a 2015 TLX and was curious opinions on the Aero Kit which includes Front/Back/Side spoilers. Do these make the car look sportier? Anyone have pictures with/without the spoilers to see if visually them make a difference?

Im sure some people will post images in a bit, if not you can google it. Personally, I like the side skirts and think they look aggressive while the front/rear are just so so and not worth it. Overall in my humble opinion not worth the $1,800. I was going to get it but am probably going to wait a couple years for 3rd parties to make better looking kits

Plenty of pictures in the Photo Gallery with TLX's with the body kit.

Here's one from Chan Mike --> https://acurazine.com/forums/photogr...15-tlx-916539/

and one from EliteAuto --> https://acurazine.com/forums/photogr...ension-919939/

Kinda undecided on them. The car can look good with it, especially when complemented with a drop and nice set of wheels. Compare the following 2 pics...

Meh:

Nice:

But then at certain angles, such as with the rear piece, it can look a bit cheap, like an after-thought as it doesn't really flow with the car. It looks like it was just stuck on there with double sided tape. Doesn't really belong.

At times i wish i got the white instead of the black... the white just looks so damn hot.

With regards to the kit. It looks tacked on to me. Wish they just made the stock bumpers with the kit integrated. Waiting on ronjon to come up with a nasty kit.

Think they look tacked on like the old Pontiacs. Honda should make it a real option & replace the panels like the other manufacturers do. Too expensive for what you get.

Agreed. I was considering an Aero Kit for mine but it looks very 'aftermarket' and not in a good way. The Aero Kit for my '09 TSX was phenomenal and actually fully replaced the front and rear bumpers and added extensions for the rockers. The current TLX kit is clearly 'added on' parts. To each their own of course but I don't think the current OEM kit looks very OEM at all.

Their best OEM kit was in the 2009-2011 TSX where the kit was a full front/rear bumper replacement! Now that was a SWEET kit and the way they should make them all the time (if they are not going to do a factory install).

Full front/rear bumper replacement (dealer isngtalled) is good, however they have their down side too. One, the cost of the bumpers are typically much higher (09-11 TSX Front/Rear Accessory bumper MSRP at over $700.00) Second, you will loose the original Vin sticker on each bumper, which could becomes an issue when trading-in your vehicle.

Factory installed aero kit would be the best option but I don't see that will happen anytime soon, at least for Acura.

^^ While I hear you on the VIN, if they are installed by the dealer, I am sure that wouldn't be too much of an issue. Now, I don't want to sound conceded but when you are spending 40k on a car, paying a bit more for a properly looking body kit wouldn't be an issue for me.

It is sad that Acura can't make a body kit from the factory....If they can make two separate car for the Canadian VS US market, surely adding a special assembly line where they install a special body kit as Lexus does with its F Sport series.

I have to agreed with you. For a $40K vehicle and paying about $700 per bumper for a better look and fitment is equally proportional and certainly make sense. But in real life, most folks do not want to paid but want to play. I see it on a daily basis at my line of work.

Hopefully in the future Acura will release a sportier model/ A-Spec/ Type-S for the true enthusiast that will comes with a sportier bumper or aero kit right from the assembly line.

You could always opt for keeping the original bumpers in the event that you sell the car later on.

That's one ugly kit. Looks too aftermarket and that front piece doesn't even wrap around the whole bumper. That gap in the middle is poop. Plus, no exhaust tips to back up the kit? Why can't Acura make a kit that includes the whole bumper and not just cheap added on pieces?

I think they should have wrapped around the entire front bottom like you mentioned the gap. Also I didn't get the kit because I didn't like how it wraps around the top portion of the bumper, above the chrome trim. The sides look good. The rear also didn't like how it wrapped around the reflectors. At some angles though, the kit looks nice. But at other angles, I wasn't too sure about it.
I'll give it a year or two to see if any after market kits are made.

For those of you who've the kit, how do the side skirts hold up? I read it's just three screws and some double sided tape. I do a lot of hi-way driving so I'm worried the tape won't hold up and the sides will start to flap/rattle/come loose.

It does look better on darker color cars. On the lighter ones, I don't like it, and since we got BWP, we decided early on to go with the mudflaps rather than the aero kit.

definitely not my cup of tea. imo, body kits on sedans and coupes belong in the 90's. it reeks cheapness and aftermarket on an otherwise very classy looking TLX.

It looks a lot better on the Graphite color car. I saw one at the dealership while I was in Arizona. It looked quite nice actually.

Each to his own. I like the car as is and would worry too much about curbs and uneven roads and potholes, which we have plenty of where I live. If I was going to do anything, the side skirts would be my only choice.

I'd honestly only get the front spoiler. The rear and sides look tacky and an afterthought.

The only downside to the kit is a bad paint match the longer you wait and the fact that you loose the mud guards with the whole kit. Doing the front only will let you retain them, which I feel are way more functional and better looking than the spoilers.

I have the aerokit. The side skirts are mounted on rails, and held together by three clamps with washer-nut bolts. The double sided tape doesn't actually do that much, it's the clamps that hold it together.

The bulk of my driving is on highways. I only had one issue which I suspect was a poorly tightened bolt during the original dealer installation. But it was easy enough to correct once I located the issue. You don't even need to hoist the car up to tighten the bolt.

Thanks for your feed back Nomad, I've spoken with a few of the sales reps from my dealer who have the side skirts and 3 of them told me that their side skirts have come loose during ownership. I've decided against the kit for now and kept only the rear spoiler. Currently waiting for parts to arrive before I take her home

I would like to re-bring this thread up for some questions of my own

I have a 15 TLX and have been debating back and forth if I want the aero kit. I brought up with my dealership my issues with my spoiler after replacing 3 of them and they had the district rep come in and offer me $500 off side skirts, so I would essentially get $500 off the whole kit if I decide (so about 1500+ tax installed havent confirmed final price)

Still on the fence about the rear piece, and I have yet to see a kit in person since they dont have them on any vehicles at my dealership.

Just trying to get more opinions and if it really makes the TLX look more aggressive? Or maybe more photos of the graphite luster metallic (Ive seen a bunch but more cant hurt)

I'll try and get some today or tomorrow for you. I have full kit and deck lid spoiler in GLM, plus roof spoiler same as you too. The weather here has been bad though.

I have the kit, and think it makes the front look more aggressive, but at the same time I don't like it because it looks cheap since it is just tacked on like an after thought. The kit looks better on darker colored cars though. I saw a black TLX with the kit and it looked amazing. Overall, I prefer the TLX with the kit rather than without.

BeezleT85: Yes, please post photos, lots and lots of photos and from tons of angles if you dont mind! My gf is telling me to just pull the trigger and get it since she is getting annoyed of me googling images every day and staring at my TLX fantasizing if it had a kit or not on it haha

I will one day get a kit, I love the look of oem style body lip kits (usually), I am just worried as soon as I get the kit then ronjon will have a nicer looking one or for 2018 they redesign the kit and it looks better.

Also trying to decide if I want body side molding with the kit to make the lower sides to really stand out. I know some people on here may think its over kill but I saw a couple photos of a white one with both and the line from the body side molding matched with the top of the rear pieces and looked good in my opinion

In dark colors, looks cool. White, not so much. Since we went with BWP, we decided to skip it.

IMO, looks like the pieces are not even made for the vehicle. Not blended. Not seamless. An afterthought to extract 4K more. Would never buy. Hope newer versions of the TLX work on the side profile look.

I bought the car with the Aero Kit. Two days later I had my car up on the lift inspecting their work. Cheap clamps and double stick tape, really! The front bumper edge pieces came loose a bit after going through a car wash. I took it back to the dealer and they re-secured it with more double stick tape. They did a good job, but who knows how it will hold up years later. I like the look of it, but it does cause much more difficulty putting the car on a lift.

Haha, when I posted it I thought to myself "man they'll probably think I'm some freak parking in the middle of no where". I actually pulled it out from the parking garage to take the quick pics and then put it back.

Thanks, I'm waiting to find a set of wheels then it's gonna get a fresh look with some extra goodies.

BeezleTL85: Thank you. Its hard to tell from the photo of the rear due to the shadows, but since I have a rear spoiler and roof spoiler like you im trying to decide if the rear end looks like it doesnt match. A rear lip that goes around the whole back (like most other lip kits ever) would match the 2 spoilers, but Im worried this lip kit will not flow with the rear spoiler and roof spoiler, any comments? BTW looks like you have a pinstripe on your car, or is that just a reflection

Highly recommend that you go back and scratch out your license plate number in two of the pictures.

I'm going to wash it at some point today and will get you a better rear shot. I agree though, the rear lip looks incomplete almost. I would say with everything on (aero kit wise), I'd still rather have the back lip than not. It doesn't do much but it would look incomplete without it imo.

Oh I just noticed you have body side molding also which I want both, I think it offsets the side skirts well and flows with the top lines, can you grab a good pic of the side of the car? thanks!
