I think this grill as a MMC was a misstep. It is too bold to just slap it on. Even for a MMC it looks so half-ass, even the rear end changes could have waited. I hope I am wrong and it grabs me in person.

Acura- you have competition, people are cross shopping your sedans with kia 's and camry's now. Stop playing. I am waiting for Acura to take the Lexus design leap but it is not looking good. There is a serious problem when Civics look 10x better than Acuras 2x the price.

Bad part is that it Buicks are actually nice now, this is really sad Acura.

You cant have a luxury line that looks like it gets the hand me downs from Accords and Civics.

Looks like a car trying to be a bus. I even thought the 2015 was meh, but this is... a bit weird. But... I'll wait to see what it looks like in person. Not that I'm going to buy one, but... lol.

Well Mercedes enjoys some success doing so. I think that Acura-bashers need to guess other arguments in order to justify their pretexts. lol.

I'd take that Mercedes any day over the MMC. And I hate Mercedes lol
The lines just flow, looks chiseled. The MMC looks like parts were stretched to fit the new pentagon. But the pentagon was never trimmed to fit!

You really need to quit thinking anyone that has something negative to say about something Acura is a "basher". And yes, I'm sure the grille is what made Mercedes famous. "More grille Acura! More grille!"

I agree. I'd probably still trust an Acura over both of them in terms of reliability for the long-term (6+ years of ownership, that is). All Acura needs to do is hire someone with a clue in their design department and get their transmission issues sorted out before they bring out the rumored 10-speed or whatever it's going to be. My car has actually been pretty rock-solid outside of the transmission and a few annoyances with the electronics after the initial batch of problems. I would've bought an ATS or Q50 if it hadn't been for all the quality issues they were having... their initial issues would make Acura's issues seem like nothing. Love the classy styling of the Caddy. Love the new Infiniti coupe, too. But as I want to hold onto my cars for a while, I'd still trust an Acura over them ... well, after I let you guys test out the first year model next time, anyway. lol.

Thank you Acura for making my decision super easy. No fkn way I will be moving on to this when my lease is up. Time to move on. Acura is not even in the game anymore with this shit. Genesis G70, updated Q50, all new 3 Series are about to drop. Can they even keep up with Kia anymore????

lol this.
Mercedes has a giant logo, so what? ppl were regarding MB as one of the premier car manufacturers, and buying them in the masses, long before they decided to jumbo size the 3 pt star.

Exactly. Could be hardly worse.

Yeah - why don't they use the NSX design team more?

It's like they just pulled the blacked out grille with a body colored accent line on either side right out of their asses. Or they just looked at the NSX.

^ Mercedes interior can't be bad if Acura's copying elements from it.

I have a TLX so if anything I should be biased towards my car more than anothers, but nobody that's unbiased will say it's interior is on par with the current gen C class (especially when optioned even 1 step above base). Of course I will admit that the C is priced WAYYY over the TLX anyway so theres no point in comparing other than that @Saintor brought it up. So me and you(Saintor) can have our lower grade plastics, slow infotainment, disjointed screens of differing resolutions, and 90s fake cherry wood. But if i had the money to spend I'd take the thoughtfully laid out interior of the C class, with it's gorgeous materials, ultra supportive seats, and thick rimmed small diameter steering wheel. Not a huge fan of floating "ipad" screens, but I'll take that over dual screens.

no actually, I loved my e90. I drove it till it had 167k on the clock. I still miss it even if it's not as tech laden as the TLX, it was a heck of a drivers car.
you had reliability issues? (my friend with an e90 also had a few issues, but I never had anything major other than the typical german car of over 150k miles developing minor oil leaks, which my e36 m3 currently has also)

Not digging the new look. I am quite happy with my 2015 TLX. I agreed with those folks about why not implement more of the NSX look to their sedans and keep that huge grill to their SUVS.
Hopefully this MMC fails so Acura can clean house and bring better design along the NSX look which I Love.

So my initial reaction to this MMC so much damn chrome. Looks worse on the red. Not as bad on the white I guess because the white contrasting drowns it out. The rear end and exposed tail pipes is about damn time. Should have been on the 2015s from day one.
i am very intrigued with that 2nd sport white version. The tail pipes are not only different from the red SH-AWD model but the tips are large. They look like they're 3"+ diameter. There is definitely a different power train on this model I think. Unless they changed out the exhaust to add a little extra power(300hp?) and a more throaty sound.
Or most likely it is the hybrid sport 3.0L. But what transmission? The ZF9 is too lazy to be sporty. What about the 7spd DCT from the RLX sport hybrid?
Also what is up with the fog lights? They are round which is not the same as the new 3light vertical fogs from the updated MDX.

after looking at the pics over and over it grew on me a bit but not a fan of those two colors. I think it would look more aggressive in darker colors. Graphite and black.

As a side note I also was perplexed to the new bigger Acura logo in the front. However since they got rid of the shield there is nothing to hide the ACC and CBMS radar behind. I think the bigger logo is the compromise to fit those safety systems since more people will most likely get those options when they switch the TLX over to having AcuraWatch trims.

Acura's '18 TLX adopts brand's new grille

January 24, 2017 @ 12:30 pm
In addition to ditching the beak grille, the updated TLX picks up styling cues from the Precision Concept that Acura showed off at the 2016 Detroit auto show, including slimmer headlights and a sharp crease running down the center of the hood. Acura’s midsize TLX looks to be the next model to get the brand’s new face, according to new spy shots out of California.

The 2018 version of the front-wheel-drive sport sedan was caught during a commercial shoot wearing Acura’s new grille that debuted on the freshened MDX crossover last year.

In addition to ditching the beak grille, the updated TLX picks up styling cues from the Precision Concept that Acura showed off at the 2016 Detroit auto show, including slimmer headlights and a sharp crease running down the center of the hood.

Based on the photos, Acura could be planning a performance variant of the TLX -- a move in line with the brand’s desire to wring more performance out of its models. One of the white cars caught has discreet badging on the trunk and front fender, as well as more aggressive front and rear bumpers, trunk lip spoiler, blacked-out alloy wheels and large round exhaust tips.

The upgrades are expected to be the bolt-on type only and similar to the A-Spec option on the smaller ILX sedan; no significant powertrain upgrades are likely.

Regular trim TLX models could also get visual cues setting the base 4-cylinder model apart from the V-6 version. A new hybrid TLX that uses the current Honda Accord Hybrid’s 2-motor hybrid system could also debut.

The 2018 TLX is expected to be introduced in the near future, possibly at either the Chicago or New York auto shows and go on sale later this year.

Future Cars

2018 Acura TLX Spied: Goodbye Beak, Hello Diamond Pentagon

Revised grille, sport-oriented A-Spec version coming next year.

What It Is: An updated version of Acura’s mid-size TLX sedan with a new face. Like the MDX SUV before it, the TLX will abandon the Acura beak in favor of the signature “diamond pentagon” grille 1st shown on the Acura Precision concept. Along with the facelift, the TLX will gain a performance-oriented A-Spec package, as evidenced by the white car pictured in spy photos with a more aggressive body kit, larger wheels and tires, and black accents. We also suspect that Acura may add a hybrid to the TLX lineup, possibly using a version of the Honda Accord hybrid’s setup.

Why It Matters: Although it’s pleasant to drive in both four-cylinder and V-6 forms, the TLX was in need of more visual drama, and that’s what the A-Spec trim looks to bring. Sadly, if the smaller ILX’s A-Spec treatment is any indication—it includes flashier wheels, a body kit, a rear spoiler, and faux suede trim for the interior—the package won’t go much beyond the appearance upgrades.Platform: Since this is just a mid-cycle update, don’t expect any significant changes to the TLX’s Accord-based chassis, only slight tuning adjustments.Powertrain: The base front-wheel-drive TLX is likely to carry over its powertrain combo of a 206-hp 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. A 3.5-liter V-6 will remain optional, paired with either front-wheel drive, front-wheel drive with rear-wheel steering, or Acura’s torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive setup called SH-AWD. All V-6 models currently use a ZF-sourced 9-speed automatic, but it’s possible that the updated TLX could use Honda’s 10-speed unit that is making its debut in the 2018 Odyssey. If Acura does deem the TLX A-Spec model worthy of any mechanical upgrades, we could see the V-6’s output rise to 300 horsepower or so, compared with the current car’s 290-hp output. Expect the potential TLX hybrid to use a version of the Honda Accord’s hybrid setup that makes a maximum of 212 horsepower and achieves an EPA combined rating of 48 mpg.Competition: Audi A4, Buick Regal, Infiniti Q50, Lincoln MKZ, Volvo S60

Estimated Arrival and Price: The undisguised TLX sedans pictured here appear to be part of some sort of photo shoot, so we probably won’t have to wait very long for the car’s official debut. Look for it at the Chicago auto show in a few weeks, before it goes on sale sometime later this year. Pricing should say within the same range as the current car, which starts at $32,950 for the base 4-cylinder model and tops out at $45,850 for the fully loaded V-6 SH-AWD version. The anticipated TLX hybrid will likely slot in between the 4-cylinder and V-6 models, and the A-Spec package should add a few thousand dollars to the sticker.

All they had to do to make the thing looks 10 times better is match up the light sizes. It wouldn't be beautiful, but at least it wouldn't look like a mistake.

What is the first model that gets more than an MMC based on the Precision Concept? I would assume the RLX or whatever replaces it. I'll give my final verdict on the Acura redesign based on whatever car that is.

I echo most of the statements already mentioned. I do like the black trim and of course, I like the exhaust tips (both versions) but there are flaws. The round ones on the white car look good but all that black doesn't really flow with everything else so it's not good. It also looks pasted on. The red car with the rectangular tips looks better. It also seems to have less black. Not sure how I feel about the chrome accents. I like the side one but not the back. I wonder if they're optional. It also appears there's a lip spoiler on the red & white. Not sure how I feel of the black on white. Seems more people are doing this contrasting spoiler nowadays. I kinda like the current spoiler better. The front is just no from the pics. Def wanna see it in person. But my list of yuck:
  • lights too skinny
  • pentagon grill too big.
  • grill doesn't match rest of car
  • lights don't flow
  • grill doesn't flow

Shocked there are so many negative comments about Acura.....okay, not really. Personally, I have always liked the front and rear ends of my TLX. The ongoing "BEAK" debate, IMHO, would never have reached the crescendo it has if the buck ugly 2008 TL hadn't been introduced. If it started with the current TLX front end, it would have been received just find. Too many folks can't seem to move past that. Having had a number of cars with exposed exhaust tips, I have come to appreciate my TLX design. I see so many luxury cars, particularly BMWs, on the road with exposed and ugly exhausts.

All of that being said, I prefer the front and rear renderings shown in the Pictures # 10 and #11, showing the red version. I would lose the chrome strips over the rear exhausts and the front fog lights. As for the new grill, it would grow on me, as it as each time I look at the new MDX. Finally, whatever design(s) are the final ones would need to be viewed in person before I would make a final judgement.

There's one thing about the engine specs that I hope is really not true, for Acura's decision making sake. Both sites say that the hybrid could use the Accord's system, but that one is really not performance focused. How can the MDX get the RLX system, transitioning from sedan to SUV. But the TLX being a sedan, not get RLX's hybrid back motors or even the new 3.0L turbo engine. So Acura is using Honda's mainstream pieces, but it's scared to use its own tech even though it works ok? Makes no sense at all to me anymore ... minus the new look that has gone back to being mediocre. One step front, 5 years back ...

3.0 engine used in MDX is not turbo, just a naturally aspirated 3L SOHC engine.

Ha! I kinda like the looks in white - minus the fog lights (it looks like one of them doesn't have fog lights) - looking forward to seeing one in person during my next oil change.

Truth be told I like the small-ish beak on my 15 so the grill wasn't a big deal to me. I'm glad they didn't go full monty like the giant crap-eating grin grill on the Lexus.

I really think it is going to look better in person. The spy photos are grainy, really not great angles, and the car is sloped downward, giving a false sense of a stubby front nose/hood. I don't like the looks of the car from the photos, for the record. But look at the rendering that the guy did vs. the actual grille. The lights and diamond grille part are almost identical in size; if you can distinguish a major difference your eyes are better than mine.
