Service/maintenance contract cancellation
Hello folks,
I just got my 2018 TLX in lease over the weekend. When signing the contract, I agreed to get their acura care service contract too. Can I still cancel this service contract?
Any information is appreciated.
Thanks,
wil.

Wil,
You should have 30 days to cancel it and get the full value of the contract refunded. The terms should be spelled out fairly clearly on the back of the finance contract. What do they say?
If you took out a loan and rolled the cost of the service contract into your loan, then cancelling the contract will effectively shorten your payment cycle by 2-3 months, e.g., if you paid $1200 for the warranty and your payments are $600/month, then you will save 2 months of payments at the end of the loan.
I've considered doing the same. When I went into the dealer the finance guy handed me a form to fax into the warranty company, which I still have in my possession. I've used the dealer for recall work and for a transmission replacement (as a lucky? 2015 owner) and at this point I can't imagine what else I might need it for.
If you ever sell the car before the warranty expires, you should be able to transfer the warranty to the new owner for a nominal amount ($100 or so), or just get a prorated refund. I used "with extended factory warranty" as a unique selling point when I sold my TL.
I like the idea of an extended warranty, but it only makes sense if you are going to keep it beyond 4 years or 48,000 miles. Until then you're paying for the privilege of having an added warranty only between the end of 48k miles and until the amount you purchased. It's a gamble for sure!
Good luck,

Thanks Greekjim and TLXinTX for your replies!
I am answering my own question in case others may find the info useful.
I called Acura Care and the answer I got was you have 60 days to refund fully. After 60 days the refund will be prorated. Just take the forms/contracts back to the dealer who sell you the packages. You will need to fill up a cancellation form. This applies to both the extended warranty and maintenance package.
