Rear ended in the Aspec
Got rear ended this morning by a Ford truck on the way to the airport. No idea how this guy hit us so hard because we were in bumper to bumper traffic waiting for the toll booths on the Bay Bridge. You can see how much traffic is there in the background. His tow hook penetrated the bumper and his license plate was stamped on the bumper also. Idiot wasn't paying attention.
What should I be worried about under neath the bumper cover? Can you damage the frame with a hit like this? Considering how big the front area of the truck was, I'm surprised the trunk wasn't touched. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...622fdb8079.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...a577821e1b.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...1fb1ee46c6.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...000d355632.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...9dff9f0994.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...e4afb65602.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...e8cd7996a2.jpg |
Sorry to hear, hope everyone was ok :(
Seems like only the bumper took the hit. Would surprise me if it caused frame damage. Sonar sensors may be affected though. |
Glad you're okay. Car should be A-Okay after a few repairs
|
Sorry to hear that man! Hope everything works out well for you with the repair. Distracted drivers are the worst. Not sure if the distraction were his phone or not but every single day I see people looking at their phones instead of the road. Drives me nuts!
|
Thanks guys. Neck is a little sore. Hopefully it doesn't get worse tomorrow. Now to deal with the medical, car repairs and time off work. What a pain in the a$$. . .

OP. Find a good shop and get it done with 1 repair. |
That really sucks. Glad you are OK. Find out who the dealer uses if they don't have their own body shop.
|
That hurts to look at. Sorry to hear man. Could have been a lot worse though. Do all the body lines around the trunk and rest of the bumper still all line up? Definitely a new bumper cover and most likely the impact bar behind the bumper will have some damage but all easily replaceable.
|
Glad you're okay and that it was pretty minor!
It's tough to have your new car get dinged up but I think the bumper is the preferred spot to incur damage in an accident - much better than a fender. |

Damn Bay area traffic. Let me guess, that's at 5-5:30 in the morning, right?
Glad you're ok. |

Sore neck from a bump? He didn't smash the whole rear in. New bumper cover and it should be fixed.

You ever get rear-ended before? It doesn't take much speed from the driver behind you to give you whiplash or damage your neck muscles, especially when you don't see it coming.

Yes I have been rear ended a couple times. Never had any issues, guess I should consider myself lucky. With the bumper to bumper traffic it had to be <5mph. Don't see anything worth medical bills.

Well hope he gets it figured out.

Took two hits while stopped at a light in the past 10 years. With lots of luck, both times I was in the pickup truck. No damage the first time, bumper & tailgate damaged in the second. Cars that hit me were towed away both times so it hard to say from just looking at a picture if either occupant got hurt.
Where you are in the seat also makes a difference. The truck seats are one piece high backs so you tend to sit fully against the seat back spine to head. With separate headrests you can get more whip before you contact the headrest with your head. |

Damn man, that sucks! Glad you are OK. I was in the same boat two Acura's ago, two weeks after purchasing I was rear ended and caused major damage. It was all fixed perfect afterwards and I requested from the repair shop that ONLY OEM parts be used and they complied. Some body shops will use cheap aftermarket bumpers so I made sure they got the bumper and parts from Acura. Take care and hopefully you are back on the road with the A-Spec soon!
|
I am very sorry to hear your incidence especially as you so kindly advise me the other day on my interest in getting apsec AWD. Hope all is well at the end and certainly your health.

don't forget in CA you have 3 years from the date of injury to file a property damage suit, and 2 years to file bodily injury for you
|
:( Sorry to read of this, Speed!
For the guy questioning symptoms....I deal with this frequently in my practice. It doesn't take much of a bump even from a small car, to cause significant cervical strain, whihc may be delayed by a day or two. |
Dang, don't even have your plates yet.

But, actually they're getting better at sending our plates quickly. I had my plate for my Explorer in under a week. I didn't put them on for 2 months though. |

There is no way you can tell me my neck or back does not hurt if I claim such. People do this all the time and are completely fine. It is the world we live in. |
Sorry to read this as well Speed! Man that sucks!!! How long do you think you will be without your ASPEC for?

Sorry about your new car. Glad it wasn't worse. Make sure to make a diminished value claim after the repairs since the resale value of your new vehicle will be negatively impacted by having repair work.

I would let whomever you leased the car through know about the accident so they can do the footwork for you on the diminished value portion.

Body shop removed the bumper cover and the impact bar needs replacing. It was punctured by the truck's tow hook also. Also some minor body damage. Estimate is up to $2100 now.

Ugh! Sorry to see this but glad it wasn't worse.
Wifey was rear ended by an uninsured motorist early last month while sitting at a yield sign in the MDX. $3k damage on this one. 18 months prior, she was impaled from behind by an Intrgra while sitting at a red light in our fairly new Accord Sport. Totaled in that one, which is why I have the TLX now. I won't even go into the medical bills that we're still trying to sort through. |

Good point. I was wondering that this week. How does that work with leased cars?
Anyway, glad to see it was pretty minor damage. Those truck tow hooks are very strong. |
