Purchased TLX last night with maintenance package
 

Hello,

I purchased a new TLX last night and I also purchased the maintenance plan. The cost was roughly $1900 after taxes on the plan and it covers all regularly scheduled maintenance for 4yr/48,000. I drive about 10k a year, maybe a little less.

I have 30 days to get a refund on it and I'm curious if it's remotely worth the costs. I am a DIY kind of guy, but they made a pretty good case that I would void my warranty if I did it myself. I would keep meticulous records, but they made a good case they would not be good enough.

Any insight or recommendations are appreciated if I should either back out and get my work done elsewhere at a better cost/DIY, or stick with the plan as it's worth it.

perhaps return it? if you can do all the things outlined under the maintenance package when the service light pops up; there's no sense in paying someone to do that.
along with receipts and journals/logs, one could also take a photo which embeds info like time, date, location...

Being October and Halloween and all....they scared you into giving up $1900

Not only that but $1900 for 48,000 miles? What are you really going to do in the first 48,000 besides oil and filters? That's WAY too high, return that ASAP.

You should have them refund you for the maintenance plan. There's absolutely no way you'll need $1900 in maintenance in the first 4 years. Ripoff. Get your money back and then just enjoy your new TLX.

That is a massive ripoff. Going off of the maintenance minder, I've done 5 oil changes and 1 air filter. An OEM air filter costs $25, 5 quarts of Mobil1 synthetic oil is $11, and an OEM filter is $7. My total maintenance cost (not including brakes/tires) has been under $120 total for that many miles. Even if you take it to the stealership for all the oil changes, that still shouldn't be more than $50 a pop.

My TLX is over a little 47k miles. In total I've spent about $1500, $690 of that being on a new set of tires.

Return the maintenance plan ASAP.

Did the dealer have a mask & a gun?

I hope the dealer at least used lube...

Besides getting ripped on the maintenance contract what really sucks is how do you trust them when you go in for service after they lied about the factory warranty,

In 3 years I did all my oil changes myself. The only thing I went to the dealer was for the differential fluid change ($125). Oh I just changed my 4 key fobs batteries for about $6.

Absolutely return it, in 48,000 miles all the car will need are just oil changes, cabin air filter replacements and an engine air filter, maybe a tire rotation. Get a refund.

Like many had mentioned, go get a refund. It cost 35-50 dollars per oil change at Honda dealership so you might want to check your local honda dealer and see if they have any good deals.
So far I got mine changed at Honda dealer since I got the car, 3x per year . I replaced the engine and cabin filter myself, just order from amazon. The only thing I did went to Acura dealer for service is the tranny fluid change, cost me $99 +tax. I bought warranty package at America's Tire, which took ownership of the tires for any warranty issue (when brand new), also came with tire rotation and balance every 5k miles until the tire is all worn out. All of those added up still not more than a 500 dollars, and my car is at 44k miles for 2.5 yrs.
I rather use that money for extended warranty.

I am not a DIY guy but that is wrong. They can only deny a warranty claim if you do it (wrongly) causing the issue. They are all salesmen after all :)

Regardless, there is no point to buy prepaid maintenance package. Just pay as go you. Hell, how do you know you keep the car that long?

Agree.... you got ripped off. The single biggest maintenance item will be tires and I'm guessing those are not included in the deal any more than gas is. The people who sold you this are probably the finance guys, not the service department. They make extra money for the dealership coercing customers to buy these extras at the time of the sale. They realize you are excited, you just bought a new car, compared to the cost of the car, $1,600 does not sound like much and you are vulnerable to their sales pitch.
