Pulled the trigger on a 2019 TLX SH-AWD Tech A-Spec!!

Hey Guys,

Been a while since i posted on here, but i have owned Acura's for a while. I've had a 2010 TL SH-AWD, 2012 SH-AWD 6M, 2015 TLX SH-AWD Tech, currently still have a 2017 MDX that the wife drives, and now for me, i'm adding the TLX Sh-AWD Tech A-Spec to my garage. I've had the Q50 up until last April when i decided to trade that in for a 2018 Accord 2.0T Sport 10AT. Let me tell you, the Accord is a wonderful car, it's very quick & handles like a dream. Nothing bad i can say about the Accord at all. However, i've had a thing for the TLX Aspec. It feels a bit more heavy, a feeling of solidity, and although that 2.0T in the accord is intoxicating, there is something about that smooth V6 that i missed, and also the AWD grip. Also, i do find the Acura to be a bit more premium, not by much, you i do feel a difference in materials etc. Accord had so much power to the front wheels, that you really had to know how to get onto the gas pedal to avoid slippage. All in all, the Accord is a fantastic car and i will miss some attributes of it. But the TLX has it's own merits that surpass the Accord in my opinion. Comfort, seat quality, a few more features that are not on my Accord, better sound system, and that AWD grip. Sure the 9spd Auto is not as good as the 10AT, but the from my test drive, they have really improved the tranny since my 2015. I've experienced the vibration issue in my 2015, and i did test drive a 2019 extensively and didn't feel anything, so i do know it's luck of the draw and it's something that i would gamble with. It's a lease, so that relieves my anxiety a bit. All in all, i'm super pumped about getting the ASpec. Just like my Accord was, i decided to stick with the same colour, San Marino Red.!!

What's your lease payment looking like?

Congratulations! Bold choice to go from very good to excellent:)

dmski 12-21-2018 04:13 PM

Huge difference from the 2015. I made the switch as well and have zero regrets. Bet you got a great deal with year end discounts. It's really a no brainer. Car has so many improvements over the 2015 TLX. It will set you up nicely for Type S in the near future.

Congrats! You will absolutely LOVE it!!! I certainly love my 2018 TLX SH-AWD A-Spec and I know that you will too!!! :-)

Congratulations! I’ve been spending the last several days using my son’s ‘15 Q50S. So I’m getting a feel for it’s similarities and differences with my TLX.

OP, how do you find the TLX A-Spec versus your old Q50?

Hey there.....Both the Q50 and the TLX are equally good, but one main takeway between the two has got to be the refinement and comfort. I find the Q50 3.7L V6 engine to be fun, however very raspy, and a little rough. Suspension was much stiffer, and steering was alot heavier. Not that anything is wrong with that, it's more Sporty focused. The TLX has a buttery smooth V6, and the comfort of the TLX is superior to the the Q50. However, my brother has a mid-cycle refreshed 2018 Q50 with the 3.0T V6 with 300hp & 295tq, and that engine is superb. Infiniti has really refined the 2018, and all the complaints i had about my 2015 has been taken care of. I prefer the TLX A-Spec styling and feel.

My lease payment is not the best to compare because I did roll in some negative equity from another car into it. However, the lease deals are amazing. I got $4200 Acura Manufacturer incentive, plus I negotiated another $2600 dealer discount. And on top of that, because I currently lease an MDX, I got a 2% loyalty reduction on the lease rate which makes it 0% for 48 months, or 0.9% for 60

dmski 12-27-2018 08:55 PM

That Red looks sharp. Did you get tint done via Dealer?

a35tl 12-27-2018 09:28 PM

What a beautiful car! The red is gorgeous! Congrats.

Wow looks great, congrats!

You have me really thinking now...my '09 TSX is about due for replacement (lots of annoying bugs popping up) and I was on the fence about another Acura but the deals I am seeing are really making me consider it. BUT I get great deals on Infiniti through my employer with no need to haggle so that is an option as well; as of now I have not test driven either.

mapleloaf 12-27-2018 11:33 PM

That Red is outstanding. I almost pulled the trigger on a Red ASpec, but wanted the last 2018 Elite trim 2.4 ASpec, that was white, which I do love as well. The Red, blue, and White ASpec colours all look particularly good on this car.

CheeseyPoofs McNut 12-28-2018 12:30 PM

The red is striking!

That’s my general observation of the VQ37 and I do have to give the 3.0T a go myself. The Q is definitely a sportier machine when compared with the TLX. However, I do find that some of Nissan’s cost cutting is a bit obvious. (I.e.: door panels feel light and flimsy, some of the interior plastics feel of lower grade than the TLX, etc,...). That said, I do like the Q quite a bit.

Have to disagree with you here. When I tested Red Sport which is the highest trim that TLX does not even compete with the car was FAST, however, handling and steering dynamics is an apsolute disaster on this car. I even drove the non das Red Sport as well. The car felt so clunky it was a huge disappointment. Infiniti has a lot of work to do still and yes some of the interior pieces felt really cheap.

Gorgeous car...best of luck with it!

Quick question...do you live in the neighborhood they used to shoot the video for the song Subdivisions from Rush:-)

I have to agree with ^...a couple of years ago, before I got the TLX I contemplated trading in my M5 and G37 for a Red Sport.
I quickly changed my mind after the test drive, even though I was getting an amazing deal: $11k off sticker price, plus sight unseen trade in value for both cars.
The car is fast, but very uninspiring, and soulless. It felt just like the G37, with a bit more HP. The auto transmission, the steering, and suspension were the real deal killer, it's just not the right match for the high performance the Red Sport claims to be.
The TLX interior feels tidier, but Infinity feels more upscale.

F23A4 01-05-2019 01:36 PM

The TLX feels much like the 9G Accord L4/V6s I've driven which is fine because that was expectation going into it. Irrespective of it's power, the Q50S is a sportier machine than my 19 TLX PAWS and my old 14 Accord Sport. That's not to say that this is on par with a Giulia Quadrifoglio or even that it's leaps and bounds better than the TLX. But it is a more sporting machine. That said, the GTR and NSX are accused of being fast, uninspiring and soulless. ....but I digress from Acura2010's original post.

hdcolumbus 01-05-2019 01:39 PM

I really like the red! Wow!

mulvaneyt1919 01-08-2019 08:23 AM

The red really pops out! I have yet to see one in the Cincinnati area. Watch out for those coppers... lol

No need to get upset, Q50 in any trim is a boat, just like a G37. TLX just feels more nimble, there is no question about that, the big difference is lack of power.
At the time I drove the Q50 RedSport, I've never driven a TLX yet, so my impression was based on experience driving e39 M5, and a G37 (plus other sports cars I've owned in the past, which had been many).
E39 M5 is not a true sports car, but compared against the Infiniti it feels like a brutally powerfull machine, with direct driver feedback when pushing the boundaries in contrast to the Q50 RedSport. Hell, even the Saab Turbo X SportCombi I've had felt much more connected.
As soon as I completed my test drive, I practically ran away from the Infiniti dealership, and traded the G37 in for a 4cyl TLX.

F23A4 01-10-2019 04:05 PM

Oh no, not upset at all and definitely get where you’re coming from. (And definitely agree with your assertion that the TLX — even with a V6 — feels more nimble.)

I’ve never had the pleasure of driving the E39 M5, which to me is still the standard bearer of when it comes to sports sedans. Such wheel time could very well alter my ‘world view’ of this segment.

That said, I still find the Q50 a bit sportier than my TLX. But not enough so, to make me regret my purchase.

Midnight Mystery 01-10-2019 04:33 PM

I'm driving an Odyessey right now with the same powertrain from the TLX and I connot belive how powerful it it!
