Not sure I see that. I have ZERO regrets on my A6 and if there is not Type-S TLX in 2 years then I will gladly buy another A6. No salesman talked me into anything. I loved my Acuras, and would gladly come back, but they have to offer me something I want that is competitive.

Do we take the idea of a TLX Diesel seriously, or do we think that Honda has given up on Diesel for North America?

Technology licencing may be preventing them from bringing the diesel Hondas to North America. Remember, Honda got the diesel technology for their European products from GM in exchange for the J35A3 engine for the Saturn Vue.

wow. Those are some pretty underwhelming pics. Like the 4g, unless right out of the gate you spend 3-4000 on a underbody kit and wheels, the car really doesn't really impress. In my opinion at least. 3G TL, even the base model made a visual impact, IMMEDIATELY. This doesn't.

This. There is nothing wrong with either side of the argument occurring in this thread. Fanboy or not, Acura isn't what they were 5-10 (or more! Legend, NSX, RSX...) years ago. I was hoping that the new TLX would be more shockingly charismatic and, admittedly, was relatively swooned by the concept and Timmy18's chops. But, I've started looking outside at the possibilities: E92s, S5s, S4s, C7, etc... Point is, I love my TL, at 3.5 years of ownership, she's been the most dependable, attractive, and fun car I've owned (granted in my short driving life thus far). But, I'm not sure I'll be returning to Acura when it comes time to move on - the excitement and panache just isn't there anymore! However, I'll be easily swayed come announcement of a SHAWD, 6MT, HP upgraded TLX - I'm just never expecting it. Just my .

Honestly, I don't think Diesel will ever gain any traction in the US. The fear-mongering campaigns of the past have tainted the attitudes and understanding of Diesel in the states. I can't begin to count how many times I've heard, "Oh, diesel is so bad for the environment with all that black smoke and they're so noisy, why would you pay more for that?" I've stopped bothering to respond. It's impossible to make people realize that VW Passat next to them at the light runs diesel and how far the technology has come. You can lead a fish to water....

Why do you think Audi and VW do so well (and Mercedes, too, sort of)?

Looks to me like VW might have hit a nerve, spending money on advertising 42 mpg highway and that they're quiet and smooth.

I am very curious to see how the VW and Audi diesels sound and drive. I test drove an MB GLK diesel recently and was reasonably impressed. However, when I test drove the BMW 328d just now, I was appalled by the amount of noise coming from the engine, though the power delivery was smooth and good. I was surprised by how few people talked about the noise from the 328d.

It looks like Honda/Acura is going turbo gasoline rather than turbo diesel in the US. For high FE they will go with their new hybrid tech. But I think history might show that they will be slow to the party on clean turbo diesel.

It will take time for the reality of new clean turbo diesel to cancel out the perception of the old clanky and smelly diesel delivery truck idling in front of your house. Because let's face it, there are thousands and thousands of these old tech diesels on the roads and their service life will keep them around for years to come. We've all sat behind them and hit the 'recirculate' button waiting for the light to turn green to get out into some clean air. Here in TX there are a lot of diesel pickups and drivers that like to hit the gas pedal hard. They can put out a lot of exhaust.

It also doesn't help that diesel is now the most expensive fuel you can buy at the pump. Doesn't matter to most that you can get far better mileage, it is the highest priced fuel.

But over years these will change, it will just take a long time.

I read recently that one of the new German "clean diesels" (I think a BMW) requires replenishment of the fluid that helps make the diesel "clean" at every oil change at a cost of about $100 a pop. If true, that might dissuade some buyers.

^^ I think its more than 100$ a refill....but I agree with you. To make matters worse, here on the East coast of CAnada, diesel is about 15c/litre more.

They all use Urea (piss) to clean the nitrous oxides from the exhaust emissions. This requires periodic refilling to meet emissions standards.
http://www.ehow.com/facts_5643207_urea-tank_.html

Honda developed a catalytic converter that manufactured urea upstream (no pun intended) and used it downstream in a 2nd converter. Thus the system was entirely self contained and all done 'in car'. I believe the EPA changed something in the (future?) regs after Honda announced the TSX diesel that made it not possible to use this tech in North America.

Acura posted a black one on their facebook page. I guess they just turned the color into a black and white photo.

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater

The caption says "The official vehicle of perfect brackets…for now. #thenewTLX". Not sure what that means.

Adblue fluid is $7US a gallon. I don't think the diesel have 14/15 gallon additive tanks. My gas tank is only 16 gallons.

^^ I remember talking to a dealer (and it may have been Mercedes) where once every
15 000 km, they would need to fill this urea tank that automatically blends (or mixes) in. I am not to say that my figure was accurate but I recall not being overly excited by it....but I am cheap *lol*

I think it's just a joke referring to the NCAA March Madness seeding brackets.

Guess you got tap danced or they charge a whole lot of labor to open & pour the jug.

Most systems including MB, Porsche, BMW, VW, Audi run about $11 worth, Walmart price, for every 10K miles. AutoZone gets $7 a jug. If any of my cars was a oil burner that would be about $11 per year per car.

I suspect this is one of those money makers for the dealer's service shops. Like replacing the cabin filter. If you do it yourself it is likely a ton cheaper.

2.5 Gal at Wal-Mart for $12. Not many MB owners shopping here I suspect. So they just take it to the dealer and pay the bill.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/BLUEDEF-Di...5-gal/16933407

This wouldn't stop me from buying Diesel.

It is not an impact due to the fact the TLX progressed from the 3G and we have already seen this. Its too familiar and the updates (tucked in tail paipes) or lack of updates(LED fogs/DRL) along with those wheels just makes it plain. It seems they want us to forget that our beloved 4G was ever made. So in a nut shell, we are saying been there and done that when we see the TLX even though its totally new under the hood.

I wasn't talked into buying an Audi, I researched the car, because I was growing bored with my TL SH-AWD and at the time Acura didn't have anything I wanted to drive since the TLX was still a secret. I test drove the E Class and the 550i, but neither made me feel that I would be trading up. One test drive of the A6, and I drove it off the lot that day...if the TLX is a home run with competitive performance and features, I'd come back to Acura in the next 2-3 years, if not, Audi may have a new loyalist. Nothing against Acura, but my money and driving enjoyment is worth too much to stick with a brand that no longer builds what makes me smile...I also drove the RLX, didn't even finish the test-drive route, brought back asap, it did nothing for me.

^^ Congrats and nice wheels!! I hope Acura is seeing this, although I am sure they don't. It baffles me that they are don't care that they are losing customers, especially when their sales of the sedans is in free fall. Can they afford to lose any customers? Nope...but they are acting as if they can by not listening to the people that are trying to help them get back in the game. I can't wait to post pics of my next wheels here too although I am not what these will be. Keep us posted on your opinions and comments on your IS....Looks great! Congrats again.

I am almost tempted to do a screen capture and send these comments to Acura headquarters.....Just for shits and giggles

Thanks, yeah the fsport one is really an aggressive looking car the only reason why i didnt take the fsport was because of options and packages. There are no cooling or ventilated seats on the fsport and also no power adjustable steering column.

I've come around on its styling. I just can't come around on its "last year" engine with "yesteryear" gas mileage. lol.

Congrats on the new car.

I am personally not sold on the styling still and the interior is a touch on the cramped side for my tastes.

I'm amazed that some of you guys have already made up your minds on the TLX based on a few unflattering photos, and I bet the car in the pictures was the base 4 cylinder model too. Not to mention the model shown was not even the American model TLX.

Seriously?

Relax guys, patience is virtue.

^^ Mine is based on my experience with other Acura products. Nothing to do with the photo disappointment.

My impression was you loved your TSX. I guess I'm a little confused, seeing as the TLX is the spiritual successor to the TSX as well. I suppose if the TLX does wind up being great, you'll reconsider.

Edit: Just saw your post in another thread. I'm not in a position to buy for a number of years, but my attitude would be the same as yours if I were in your position.

Very nice looking car. The grill on yours in this photo seems nicer than the ones I've seen elsewhere or maybe it is just the light.

I'm hoping they'll release the hybrid IS in the US this year as I'm very tempted to get it. With any luck they'll improve the acceleration on the hybrid before they release it in the US.
