i do enough research already I know more than most salespeople anyhow.
I don’t see that in the US, look at all the grief Tesla is going through due to the states with strong dealership lobbyists.

You can do that now with some upscale brands that offer a performance center or factory delivery program. My last two BMW's were bought online from a dealer in Oregon the one before that from Alabama. I live in NC. I shop the whole country for the best deal & most of the paperwork is done with FedEx. Final paperwork is done at delivery. BMW pays for lodging, food & a one day performance driving school.

TLX numbers being reported came as no particular surprise to me. It’s at the backend of its model cycle and it was never a standout in the segment. Coupled with this insatiable thirst for SUVs of one kind or another, I think we’ll continue to see fallout here.

Agreed! Also, right now RDX is the perfect car in the market. You get all the techs, new design and SUV

TLX can bounce back if Acura starts pushing the new model a bit earlier.

Don't know what to think about the next TLX's future. Right now Acura is an SUV company by 10,000 SUV's a month to 3,000 sedans. Last year at this time it was 9,000 SUV's to 4,000 sedans. Both months had similar total sales, 500 unit spread, the only shift was moving volume from sedans to SUV's not much in the way of growth.

Definitely Acura won’t see any growth this year.
but thanks to the new RDX, Acura was able to maintain the numbers for 2018. But they have a chance to grow through 2019-2020 by introducing new TLX, MDX and may be ILX and RLX.

Next TLX MUST be a homerun. If they don't get the styling right it's game over. Could be even a model killer. They must package the car righ as well. Don't cheap out. I would do similar thing what they did with 3G. Make the regular model compelling, NO cheap ass rims and have a top of the line model and of course Type S at the launch. No waiting for years.

A4 picked up 11%. Q5 +61%. Car sales are slow, but Audi is still pulling good numbers. TLX tech is like the old Atari 2600. The RDX is killing it. Build off of that and they will rebound.

Yes, the sales performance of the next TLX and maybe the next entry level sedan (ILX?) could truly define whether or not Acura should continue to build sedans or position itself to being solely an upscale SUV company. If the next TLX fails, I could foresee them canceling any 3G TLX plans slotting in the CDX (which will likely happen anyway) and maybe creating a Luxobarge SUV powered as a Sport Hybrid.

I don't doubt they will do their best on the next TLX based on what they delivered int he RDX. I think we can be safe to assume the interior will resemble the RDX interior to some extent. I would like to see a pure LCD instrument cluster like Audi Virtual cock pit, even if that is only in the Type-S. And I hope Acura does not wait for the Type-S, it is needed at launch, with cars like the G70 out there now Acura needs to compete. I do not expect the dimensions to change much since it will still be based on the Accord platform. I also do not expect the styling to be much different that the current gen. If you look at the RDX it went form bland to more bold, I suspect more of the current APSC styling will be the standard and then some additional aggressive features for ASPEC. Not sure what they will do styling wise to differentiate the Type-S, maybe similar to ASPEC, but with the performance DNA (engine, suspension, brakes, etc) to back it up. I would like to see a new RLX which if done right can win me into that camp. The Redesigned RLX has seen a decent up tick in sales compared to pre-MMC.

I am not worried about a few things:
1. TLX will be similar to RDX (new info, better interior and etc)
2. Type S will be released but when? That’s the question
3. More power, Acura will definitely have two engine choices, a 250 HP and a 300+.

the big question is when the new TLX will be out? 2019 as 2020 model or 2020 as a 2021 model.

I actually don’t think that peak horsepower numbers for the 2G TLX will stray too far from the current numbers ( maybe even less), in favor of a broader torque range. The RDX is a good example of this execution.

i peg the Type S to be somewhere between 325-340hp. I’m sure it’ll have a broad torque band resulting in the quickest acceleration of any TL/TLX to date but peak hp won’t be particularly impressive. Just my $.02

They are dropping the ILX opening price below the Accords top end car. So much for a luxury image.

They pretty much have to. The base ILX feels like a slightly nicer old Civic (which is not a good thing at all). I'm not being hyperbolic when I say I'd rather have the current gen Civic Touring over the more expensive base ILX, even if they were priced the same.

One of the magazines ran the test, Civc/ILX, & you won.

It's a shame really - I see a few current gen ILX's on the road in my neighborhood and I think it's a nice looking little car. Too bad they can't figure out what to do with it to make it more competitive in the marketplace.

I think Acura isn't the only brand who is facing this struggle. The sedan market is just not doing well. I think the Germans like 3 series, C300 and A4 are better but even C300 sales are declining.
For Acura to compete, they need to bring a very good TLX in the market. Just like they did in 2004. They were almost beating BMW 3 series which was considered the best sport sedan.

Jon Ikeda said himself that 350hp for the Type S simply wont cut it when it comes to that segment. Enter the 3.0T.

If it’s only pushing 325-340hp, consider it dead on arrival. Sad but true.

The just announced 2020 G20 340 is rated at 385BHP in the new 3.0L model. Very quick at the current 320BHP rating. Be interesting to see what they actually do with the TLX since the 340 will have one of the lowest factory ratings. But of course BMW cheats & sandbags its ratings.

TLX sales are hanging in there for a model late in its cycle. While I hoped the MMC would at least maintain its sales volume, I think the appeal of the A-Spec has been weighed down with the unattractive updates to the other models.

BMW 3/4 October sales dropped just over 1,000 units from last year to 6636. The F series 3 is done with production. They will be selling off inventory till the G20 arrives. With a new platform & 385BHP coming with the G20 fence sitters starting to grow at the BMW forums. Current poll 2 to 1 to buy year end specials for price vs waiting till spring for the G20. As time goes on the wait till spring segment is slowly growing improving from 3 to 1.

Looks like a major rush with new models from most of builders we follow, 2019/2020 should be pretty interesting for new car choices.

In this competitive market, RDX is taking all Acura’s sales.
Acura has to relaxe the next TLX sooner than later. It will help the brand to move farward.

Bring the 2020 TLX early 2019
Bring the 2021 MDX early 2020
Bring the new CDX somewhere between 2019-2020!

200,000 units guaranteed!!!

We’ll know by the time of the spring auto shows whether Acura is releasing a new TLX early. I doubt that’s happening as we are now on the second model year of a MMC. I wish it’d happen sooner than later, myself, but I doubt it’ll happen that way.

As for sales, I find the new ILX to be very interesting. I always thought the 201 HP and 8 speed DCT was a very nifty and quick combo with that car, and now that it is somewhat more of a looker, we'll see if sales increase. Even 5-10% in this market would be a good step up.

The sooner they put the new interior and infotainment in the TLX and even MDX the better. After sitting in the RDX the TLX interior in particular just seems cheap. I think the only reason the TLX is selling relatively well now is due to heavy discounts. Edmunds is showing a possible discount on the TLX of almost $5,700. For the RDX the number is $1,900.

The ILX doesn't have the refinement of an entry level luxury (or even near luxury) car. But I do agree with you the engine and transmission combo is good.

I can't wait to see what the next TLX will look like. I think Acura did a pretty good job with the TLX despite of the problems with transmission and vibration.

The Insight and Clarity seem to be doing well. I rolled up on a new Insight this past Sunday; looks like a cleaned up version of the Accord X.

Hmmm - CRV and RDX continue to do very well. RDX is a winner!

They must be discounting the Accord pretty well as the sales seem to be coming back a bit. TLX may be getting a bit long in the tooth.

Hey the numbers suck, but this is the first month since the 3G TL that Acura outsold the 3 series.

3 series sales were down over 70% from January 2018. A redesigned 3 is coming out this year.
