Good job Acura!

I still believe the numbers aren't wow! If they go at this pace, the year will end with 150,000 unitish. I hope the new RDX, A-SPEC MDX and 4l TLX A-SPEC help to grow sales for Acura.

I must say Infiniti Q50/60 is killing it. 6,000 units sold last month. Respect

I would really like to know the AUR (average unit retail) of the TLX month to month. Has it decreased from month to month? I saw someone post they got an Aspec for $39K ish. That would definitely up the sales.

Lease incentives being quoted on Edmonds have been:
Base: $3,750
Aspec: $5,000
Advance: $5,000
Tech $5,875.

Purchase incentives:
Tech: $3,500
Advance: $3,000

That has to be a huge part of the uptick in sales.

Makes sense. Last week I built an Infiniti Q50 (2017 model) the 3.0 engine and I was shocked to see $10K (CDN) discount. Basically a fully loaded Q50 AWD 3.0 for $51K CDN. I think it's the best purchase in the market. I am sure the same incentive was running in the USA since Q50/60 sales were high. I think Acura is cheap and doesn't give much compared to Infiniti.

Must have had extra selling days in the month. 3/4 did a shade over 8,000 & the 3 series is about to have a new generation released.

I am not shopping for a sedan. I hear their advertisement non stop on the radio. I wanted to know if it's true lol. As I mentioned, Infiniti numbers are high due to great incentives. The same goes for Nissan. Nissan Rouge is amazing for 300-350 dollar a month CDN. You will never get that for CRV, RAv, CX5 or Tiguan.

Saw an interesting article about Ford's sedan lineup:

Ford dropping all but 2 cars from its North American dealerships

To summarize - "Ford said on Wednesday the only passenger car models it plans to keep on the market in North America will be the Mustang and the upcoming Ford Focus Active, a crossover-like hatchback that's slated to debut in 2019. That means the Fiesta, Taurus, Fusion and the regular Focus will disappear in the United States and Canada."

Crazycakes.

Seems like that may bite them in the ass if oil prices spike again.

Almost seems doubtful. Gas is over $1.50/L here in some parts of the country, (or $5.62/gal), and truck and SUV sales show zero signs of slowing. My province apparently has some of the cheapest gas in the whole country, and we are still paying around $1.30/L (or $4.88/gal)... Yet sedan sales keep dropping and SUV sales keep increasing.

If it spikes? Oil's been slowly climbing since early 2016 bottom. It's expected to hit $75-$80 by end of year.

The Accord...ouch. I saw one on the road the other day. Just looked really large and that front end is brutal. I wonder if they will do a quick refresh like they did with the Civic a few years back. Clearly it's not working. Or maybe they have the drop built in and counting on the increases of the Pilot and Odyssey which are clearly winners. I drove through my Acura dealer Sunday. It's the fewest amount of cars I've seen on the lot in months. Clearly waiting on the new models. They literally had one Aspec on the lot.

I don't think there will be a quick refresh. The Civic got a quick refresh because it was panned by the automotive press for its cheapness and it didn't get on Consumer Reports' "Recommended" list.

The new Accord isn't cheap feeling like how the Civic was. I personally think the biggest factors hurting Accord sales are the decline in demand for sedans and the lack of deals/factory incentives. The new and less conservative design styling is secondary.

I have to wonder if the new turbo engines and news of the problems, recalls, and stop sales on it (1.5T) might be hurting sales too.

Acura sales are decent I think compared to other Japanese brands. Lexus, Acura and Infinit, they all had a decline in April, the worst is Infiniti. I know the fact that Infiniti sales are quiet high due to huge incentives up to $10K (for the past 4-5 months). This is not sustainable in long term and they will slow down eventually. It's just a matter of time.

Acura is shining in Canada. 23% high in April and 14% YTD. TLX and RDX are killing it.

It looks like April was a down month for many manufacturers according to Autoblog. https://www.autoblog.com/2018/05/01/...auto-sales-us/

Very interested in seeing how Honda deals with hemorrhaging Accord sales.

Pretty impressive spike in Pilot and Odyssey sales. If not with the TLX, maybe Accord V6 buyers gravitated towards these two models.

Honda doing nothing for Accord.. new incentives thru July have no leasing incentives at all, the inventory will sit.
meanwhile you can get a leftover 18 TLX for easy

Compared to luxury cars, profit margins on regular sedans are not that high. Being a new model, I can see why Honda is delaying discounts. But I'm sure it'll happen soon since the front is really not a high selling point lol

its nit just the discount. Money factor in march was at 5% and 4% last month, i believe. That make a big difference on the lease amount. Why lease an accord when a q50 is cheaper with great incentives plus very low money factor of less than 1%

Money factor is lease financing rate here in Canada I believe. Yup in that case it makes no sense at all

The Money Factor is a quicker way of calculating monthly interest vs using the APR or lease rate. The Money Factor is 1/2400 of the lease rate, so for example, a 6% APR would be equivalent to a Money Factor of .0025

Calculation of Monthly Payment using Money Factor of .0025 (6% APR)
Car - 42,000
Residual 20,000
4 year lease

Interest is (42k + 20k) x .0025 Money Factor = $155 monthly Interest
Depreciation - (42K - 20K)/48 = $458 monthly payment
Total Monthly Payment - $613

Calculation of Monthly Payment using APR (same car)
Interest on Depreciation amount - Average Loan balance - 22K/2 = $11,000; $11,000 x .06/12 = $55 of interest per month on depreciation amount
Interest on residual Amount - $20,000 x .06/12 = $100 interest only on residual amount per month
Total interest - $155 per month
Principal calculation (on Depreciation amount) - $22,000/48 = $458
Total Monthly Payment - $613

Basically 2 less steps using the Money Factor.

Sorry for the somewhat boring calculations, but I used it as a way of personally better understanding the relationship between using a money factor or a lease interest rate (APR). As pointed out by Pyrodan, the Money Factor is seldom referenced in Canada, at least not in my 16 years of leasing.

Ouch

May 2018 = 2,723 (-22.4% vs 3,508 a year ago)

I suppose that's an improvement from the -44.6% in April 2018

Audi A4 = 3,472 (+4.3% vs 3,329 a year ago)

Lexus IS = 2,180 (-7.9% vs 2,367 a year ago)
Lexus ES = 3,828 (-9.5% vs 4,228 a year ago)

Infiniti Q50 = 2,945 (-12.6% vs 3,370 a year ago)
Infiniti Q60 = 848 (-12.8% vs 972 a year ago)

They have a real dog on their hands with the Accord. I’m sure they planned decreases. But I can’t see it being on plan. RDX will give acura a big increase for June. I’d be surprised if the TLX makes another month as new tech has arrived in the RDX and it makes the TLX look even more dated.

I agree - I think the new RDX will be taking sales away from the TLX moving forward.

After seeing the interior of the RDX, I am hoping the next generation TLX comes out soon with a similar interior. That is a vehicle I would like. The RDX looks pretty good, but I do not really need a SUV, and would like a vehicle that gets better gas mileage.

I just saw that Camry sales were only 29,965 in May, so Accord sales of 28,212 is not too bad by comparison. For the year, Camry sales are about 40,000 above Accord sales, or almost 40% more.

Next summer the TLX-S will be launched. I would think the RDX Head unit would be included. At least I hope. I don’t think a full refresh will come out until 2021 as per a dealer I spoke to.
