New TLX

Yesterday my wife & I traded in her 2010 TSX for a 2015 TLX 2.4 8-DCT P-AWS with Tech. She's overwhelmed, so far, with all the tech & screens. One question we have that doesn't appear to be addressed in the manual is what is the blue tint on the rear view mirror(salesman said it's a film, but we can't find an edge to peel)? Is that a protective covering that needs to be removed or the actual dimming mirror. She doesn't like it if it's the actual mirror as she says she can't see in it (I haven't driven it yet) & it appears to be permanently dimmed, even in bright sunlight.

Can you snap a picture of it? I don't see a blue tint on mine, so it sounds to me like it's definitely a protective film of some sort.

At first I thought you were referring to the light above the mirror that emits a blue light. I thought that might be reflecting onto the mirror. Personally, I have no tint on my mirror and it has worked fine since day one.

If it bothers you, ask the dealer the next time you take your car in for service.

I agree if it's blue, it's sounds like a protective covering. My car has no blue tint.

Just use a piece of tape to get it off.

You didn't mention if you see the blue tint during daylight hours or not and if it happens all the time.

I've noticed that the auto-dimming feature will give the mirror a slightly blue tint when functioning.

We tried to take it off, but can't find an edge to start peeling. The salesman did say it it was a film, but they should have taken it off. I tried to take a picture last night, but it didn't come out. I'll try again in the daylight if we're unsuccessful again at removing it..

It's blue all the time & quite dark even in sunlight. We've had other cars with auto-dimming mirrors so we're familiar with their operation.

like said above, use a piece of tape to remove the film.

check the door entry guards too. they seem to leave the blue film on those sometimes.

Are we sure that is not the film that responds to an electrical charge and dims when needed? Mine is blue in darker conditions like the garage, but not really visible in daylight. It may be how they darken the rear view on this new frameless mirror. Purely a guess, but I have not removed it and only noticed it the other day (since Nov 1) in rainy conditions.

My wife tried tape & it did nothing. She called the service dept. & they had no answer for her. She came home a little while ago & now thinks that maybe that's the way it's supposed to be. Or maybe she's getting used to it. There's also no on/off switch on this unit & according to the manual, there are apparently 2 models of mirror & the other one has an on/off switch. She's waiting on a call from the manager.

No blue film on the door sills, just adhesive that they never cleaned off.

It's looking more & more like the blue isn't a removable film, it's the auto-dimming mirror. Unlike the mirror that has an on/off switch, this one has no switch & the blue is the coating(?) that does the dimming. My wife spoke to the service dept. & they couldn't explain the blue (which seems strange for a model that's been out for around a year). She spoke with a dealership manger this evening who is leading us down a blue path. He claims that's the way it is. My wife did say it was better when she was driving today. So for now there isn't any other explanation.

Then its not hard to suggest they did not do other things like remove the protective film from the mirror.

So far, there is no film on the mirror unless someone from the dealer gets more info. That's just the way it is.
From the manual:
*Automatic Dimming Rearview Mirror
When driving after dark, the automatic dimming
function reduces the glare in the rearview mirror
and door mirrors from headlights behind you. This
cannot be turned off. The function cancels when
the shift lever is in Reverse (R).

Since the dealer is far away from us that's not practical. However, the service dept. supposedly did that & still has no idea. It's still a work in progress.

OK, here's a pic of the mirror. It looks like it's permanently in dim mode.

There is a blue protective film on it similar to electronics. Peel it away gently without scratching the glass. If you have the dealer prep the car when buying (i don't i refuse it) they should have removed it. Hurry up and remove it before there are threads on the poor mirror for a 40k car.

My last car had a clear one on the steering wheel emblem which I had on there for a year before I really noticed it and peeled it off.

Based on that picture, that mirror is defective. Have the dealer check it out. It looks like it's permanently dim. There appears to be a non-dimmed ring around the outside edge of the mirror.

Definitely not right, and it doesn't look like the factory film.

I can't be the only member with a 15 TLX I4 w/ Tech here. Is there no one else who can verify what the mirror should look like? I did email the dealer the same pic I posted here. Hopefully I will get a response tomorrow.

Hard to see in the pic but it almost looks like the auto-dimming part has come loose and shifted down inside the mirror.

Agreed--ours has a the blue cast when it's dimming, and you can see a similar halo of clear mirror. Could be a bad sensor. It probably is in that array facing the windshield. Maybe try blocking/unblocking it to see if the mirror responds.

That certainly looks defective (and probably unsafe). You should get the mirror changed under warranty ASAP. Also it will be much more easier to go to the dealership and check out other TLXs so that you can prove the defect at the same time.

I have an I4 Tech and mine does not look like that in the daylight. There has to be something wrong with that.

My wife just informed me that Acura has decided that the mirror must be defective & they'll be replacing it. They'll also do a few other things that should have been done in the delivery prep.

Now that that's on the way to being resolved, last night we took the TLX to go to dinner & I noticed that the radio stations I had set (1-6) had changed back to whatever they were when we first got the car with the exception of #1. When I checked 7-12, they were correct. Driving home after dinner, I looked at the stations again & 1-6 were back to what I had set & 7-12 were the stations as we got the car from Acura. So now it appears we have a possessed radio.

Something tells me this car is going to see the inside of the service dept a lot. I better check up on the NYS Lemon Law.

@dzionny_dzionassi is correct - The station memory is linked to the fob - if you unlocked it and your stations are 1-6, and your wife had 7-12 set (but not 7-12), then this is exactly what will happen.

1-6 are my wife's stations (7-12 are mine) & she unlocked the car. I didn't have my fob with me because she was driving. I set her stations while she was driving after getting the car on Sat. She started the car with her fob, but I will check out what is set with which fob.

You both get 12 presets. You set yours, she sets hers, and whichever fob opens the door decides which are set.

Easy to confirm, too. My wife and I both drive it, too, so I've gotten in the habit of checking the Driver1 Driver 2 message at start on the upper display. I believe it also shows briefly on the display between the gauges. I wish it recognized the key in the ignition, but I see why they link it to the driver door unlock: so the seat can glide back to the easy entry position for that driver.

UPDATE: A couple of weeks ago we took the car back to the dealer to have the mirror replaced & a few other things that should have been done for the new delivery prep & weren't. They were also going to detail the car. They gave her a loaner for a few days (the mirror that was supposed to have been pre-ordered wasn't). When her car was ready, the service dept. drove her car back to us & picked up the loaner. The mirror is now correct & no more blue tint (except maybe at night). They also did an update to the tranny software. Not sure which one.
