When the irrepressible technological march finally makes you uncomfortable, you find ways of appearing regressive or old fashioned, even though the apparent object uses modern technology.

I am old.

I know about these things.

One year I found a bunch of mint Big Ben and Baby Ben wind up alarm clocks and distributed them in all the bedrooms.

Found a way to rig up a bunch of antique rotary phones, too. Although, of course, they use a modern digital cable line to make and receive their calls.

^ every brand that has been around for a long time has that single little something they carry from one redesign to the next. For example, Bentley has the analog clock, even though I didn't realize Maserati has an analog clock too. Acura? I would say "rattles" but not 100% sure

At the end of the day: it's your money and your decision and your satisfaction. You should ALWAYS treat any investment that way...simply because it's YOUR money. And as a result, you should always be doing your homework and doing the proper research to make sure you are as close to 100% satisfied on the decision you are about to make.

Obviously there are some things that can't be researched because some quality issues don't appear until you are mid-life with the product. But I think you get the point. I think the hardest part of doing research on a product is the decision to be the "first buyer" or wait it out for months (or years) to see how the quality stands up through other buyer experience. There is nothing worse than wanting a new toy and making yourself wait There are some aspects of the RLX that I believe could have been done better and will hope to see them in an MMC update. But I needed a new car, and I lease, so it's not my car anyways, so I figured why not? I'll jump in as a first buyer on a new model, I'm gonna be giving it right back to Acura anyways! And by that time an MMC should be out or I may step back down to the TLX and save me a couple hundred bucks a month on lease payments to get what appears to be shaping up to be car that offers "almost" everything that I can get in the RLX for less. And I do emphasize..."almost".

When you start treating any investment from the perspective of trusting NO ONE, whether it's a car, a house, a new computer, etc. etc. you'll find yourself becoming less and less disappointed in your decisions.
Couldn't have said it better myself!

You are VERY BAD! LOL

I would like to think of the ELS sound system when I think about some little things that characterize Acura.... rather than those darn rattles!!! :-)

^^ Yes, I am a bit sarcastic

The little things that have created the heritage are things you don't see unless you take the car apart. For example the insulation behind the A pillar, or the timing belt materials technology, or the VTEC pressure switch or the two-piston caliper (all the way back to the Legend). So yes there is lots of heritage there but other than what you mention (ELS) the average consumer doesn't get to see any of it.

Anxiously awaiting for more spy pictures...

We need to see more bad and ugly versions of the TLX just to get us all riled up before we see the real thing.... then we will all think that the NA version is the best thing since sliced bread!!! See, Acura has it all planned out.... LOL

My TSX is the most rattle free car I have ever owned. I have had BMWs, Hondas, Fords, GM, 5 VWs, a Nissan, a Mitsubishi, 2 Land Rovers, a Peugeot, 3 Toyota's...

Is it untypical?

I've had a few 80s/90s Bimmers and MBs. All were rattle free and vault-like. My TL is OK, just rattles with the bass from my speakers but that's acceptable.

I did have an irritating rattle in the arm rest of my 07 type S on the passenger side. The rattle would go away if I had a passenger and if they rested their arm on the arm rest of the door. On my 09 TL SH-AWD, I thought I had a rattle. I dealt with it for a year. I finally found two things to be the culprit. My sunglasses rattled in the sun glass holder and I had two coins in those weird pockets surrounding the center console that is nearly or under the dash. My 2013 SH-AWD has a squeak in the drivers door when hitting certain types of bumps, like raised lane markers with the reflectors in them, the small ones! Its still under bumper to bumper warranty so i will let dealer chase it down.

I wish Acura change the leather materials. It is too soft and it gets old very fast. My bro's bmw leather seats look still new after 3 years without any special treatment on it.

(I was kidding about the rattles!... but half the 09 TL's had their headliner change under warranty due to rattles, thus the different part number thereafter... )

One week until Wednesday the 16th!!! Press access only for a preview that day. I wonder if they take the covers off that day, or wait to unveil it during the public opening, Saturday the 18th?

BTW, other manufacturers also have some important debuts at NYC... BMW, Audi, Ford, even VW.

But I think ze pièce de résistance will be the Toyota FT1 Concept. TLX? What TLX LOL!!!

I prefer the softer leather, but it does require regular treatment and cleaning, I use LeatherCPR, works great. My Audi leather feels almost like vinyl.

See what you started with the rattles!!! LOL

BTW, you think that the Toyota FT1 Concept will be "ze pièce de résistance"? Are you sure that it won't be recalled by Toyota first before it even gets to the show!?

It looks very classy. My G35 had it. The Q50 I have now doesn't and I don't wear a watch. So I have to wait 4 minutes for intouch to load to show the time. lol

Yes, I can pull out my phone out of my pocket. But a analog clock would be nice.

There is a chance it will be recalled for health and safety reasons. Its giving people heart attacks LOL !!! (over 6 million recalled cars, that is a bit too much...)

The FT1 is gorgeous. It is what the LFA should have been in the first place. But, it takes 2-3 years to put something like that to production and by then who knows what else is going to happen.

PS. Lets see during the next few days if anyone else from the factory takes out a TLX to go grocery shopping and parks the car without camo somewhere... just like they did with the 4th gen and the 3rd gen before... Remember the old saying "an iphone walks into a bar..."

I dont think it looks classy, and Personally with everything touch screen and being electronic i think it looks cheap and out of place with the car

My dislike is based on a combination of this and the fact that it is no longer a "Cadillac feature". You can get an analog clock in a Chrysler 300.

^ analog clocks are nice when they are made to look classy. If they pickup a plastic $2 clock from a flea market that runs on a AA battery like the ones we had 20 years ago, well, they can ruin the entire car. Often that is what Detroit companies do. In contrast the Europeans take their clocks very seriously LOL.

I'm interested to see this. Maybe they'll make the taillights square instead of round (a la Corvette) and we'll all hate it at first......

I guess we'll see in a few days what the car looks like. The spy shots usually do a good job predicting the final version so I would be really surprised if the final interior has covered cup-holders and vastly different than the spy shots.

I think Alex had some good analysis of 6MT option and there is certainly no parking brake (I can't think of many models that have an electronic parking brake in MT form?)
Perhaps Acura wants the families that already have MDXs to seamlessly know the controls of the TLX since Acura has been bagged on the complexity of the interior in the past.

BMW 5 series (stopped offering a 6MT as of Jan '14 or so, though), Subaru Legacy/Outback, Audi A4/S4, though you are still correct. Most cars that do offer a MT still use a proper handbrake.

I agree on this completely. Might as well be an Accord or worthless Camry.
