LKAS consistency

LKAS consistency
Can folks comments on the LKAS consistency? I see a few comments on other thread about it not being very consistent. I drive the same highway to work everyday and someday it pick up the lane and other times its a struggle. I can't get it to pick up the middle lane on a 3 lane highway. The first 5-10 minutes of the drive is also a crap shoot on LKAS working properly. The TLX I test drive didn't feel that way. Called the dealer and they said I can bring it in for them to take a look. Not really sure what they will look at since it does work. Lastly I know that it has to be above 45mph for it to work :-).

I find the LKAS is sometimes finicky, but then so was the same feature in my Audi. The problem is basically it is a camera looking at the road, there are so many things that can influence the ability to lock onto the lines. I find it sluggish to lock on, but once it does it will stay locked on decently until it looses the lines. Lights, rain, and many other factors impact LKAS ability to detect line, not to mention the crapp lines themselves. Most municipalities do a horrible job of keeping lane markings in great condition.

My LKAS is pretty spot on but the lines on the road have to be in good shape. If they're not bright/dull/freshly painted then the camera does struggle to pick them up. As KeithL mentioned, rain does impact LKAS. Personally, this is one of the coolest features of the car. I just wished the FCW worked as well.

Mine works very consistently. Works most of the time except in direct sunlight or when the roads are horrible and the lane markings are hard to read.
I cant wait for the 2nd generation of LKAS where maybe it will allow for more than 15 seconds of hands off the steering wheel and will actually take freeway turns all on its own vs overshooting them if Im not helping steer

Mine are pretty consistent. I haven't been able to activate them on any backroads that are 35mph, but on freeway they work great, even at the slight bends.
I haven't read the manual yet so maybe there's a certain speed limit required for LKAS to work?

It works fine for me in the middle lane of a highway.
Are you aware that the lines in the MID are solid when the system has a lock on the lanes, and that if it looses lock those lines change to hollow dashes AND that there is an accompanying beep (hard to hear if the audio is moderately loud).

Mine also works consistently (under the same conditions each time). The FCW on the other hand....

Mine works great in the right conditions. I drive on a 4 lane highway in to work and am typically in the 2nd or 3rd lane and the LKAS works great. It will keep me in my lane and navigate sweeping curves with no issues.
The only time I've seen it struggle is in poor lighting with poor weather conditions (rain).

But overall, it makes for much less taxing long trips. Might even become a required feature for future purchases. But I do a lot of driving...

I commute (mostly highway) about 80 miles a day. I use LKAS all the time and have found it to be precise. Like others have mentioned, road conditions play a big part.
There is definitely a degree of trust/fear the first time you go around a highway corner with your hands off the wheel. Once you get over that initial hump, it becomes second-nature. I love the feature.

I think my LKAS + ACC system is probably older than the one you guys have on the TLX.
Mine seems not so much for automatic driving and seems to be just a kind of help that is a part of an overall strategy that just allows you to arrive at the end of a long driver feeling a little better than you would, otherwise.
I've had my hands off the wheel before to test it, but I don't regard it as a true automatic system...just a very nice help. :-)
My answers to the Fall Survey reflect this, but I suspect after reading some of the other comments that I might feel better about LKAS than some of you.

My works great. Obviously, in the absence of lane markings, it will not function, and with faint ones, it will not function well. The feature does what it is advertised to do, and does it very well.
