JD power list - H/A kissing almost the bottom of the list!!!

FYI...

Surprise! Non-luxury car brand now tops quality study

I am very happy that market is noticing the recent crap that Honda/Acura is putting out there. It is about time Honda revisits their QA departments. It is embarrassment that a company that once was known for quality products is basically at the bottom of the list once you exclude few less common manufactures.

Here is Power's ranking and the number of flaws reported per 100 cars:

Kia 83
Porsche 84
Hyundai 92
Toyota 93
BMW 94
Chevrolet 95
Buick 96 (tie)
Lexus 96 (tie)
Lincoln 96 (tie)
Nissan 101
Ford 102
GMC 103 (tie)
Infiniti 103 (tie)
Volkswagen 104
INDUSTRY AVERAGE 105
Audi 110
Mercedes-Benz 111
Cadillac 112
Jeep 113
Ram 114
Chrysler 115
Mitsubishi 116
Dodge 117
Subaru 118
Honda 119
Acura 122
Scion 123
Jaguar 127 (tie)
Mazda 127 (tie)
Mini 127 (tie)
Land Rover 132
Volvo 152
Fiat 174
Smart 216

I really don't know what these numbers mean and their definition of a "flaw"? I wish they could list the issues or have categories (fit/finish, engine, suspension, transmission, electronics, etc...). Or if they can list the average days in shop for major and minor repairs.

I had a 2005 Mini, absolutely no issues, but it got low IQ scores because folks did not like the cup holder. (Which was an odd cup holder.) It could be anything from not liking push button shift, to the NAV system, to real mechanical issues. Here many people post issues that are sometimes only things that differ from their prior car or their expectations. I think that's what you see in Power Initial Quality. Ford got killed for SYNC for several years--it's just early impressions. The more you research a car maybe the better you meet your expectations.

Welcome to 2016, where surveys are totally biased and non-relevant. I'm not defending HMC here, it's just that these surveys are early impressions of people who have bought vehicles. Imagine the people who have never test drove a vehicle and start nit-picking on things/technologies they cannot comprehend or features that they dislike.

JDPOWER has always been a joke, like previous poster has said, cup holder is the same as a needs a new engine. Both count as ONE problem. Where it matters is long term which jdpower does not do. We can go back 10 years where they said Ford had higher quality than Honda and Toyota. But look at the sames cars they said they had the best quality 10 years ago. Now today, they are garbage falling apart cars. But jdpower does not care about those cars today. They don't exist to them anymore. Well sorry jdpwer they still exist, needing transmission work done, major engine work done, interior falling apart, rattling suspension, the list goes on and on.

A BMW with less problems then a Honda LOL! They don't have the nickname "The ultimate maintenance machine" for nothing.

^ my thoughts exactly!

I would be more concerned about issues cropping up after 1 year or beyond of ownership instead of the first 90 days. It's those electrical and mechanical issues that take multiple service visits to deal with and waste time. In looking at the consumers report maintenance surveys- Honda holds its own with relatively minor problem areas compared to other makes. We drive a 2005 Honda Pilot that still runs and works fine- not sure I could make the same statement if I had picked a Ford Explorer, Dodge Durango, or GMC Envoy instead.

Hats off to Kia though- they are building some respectable cars now.

LOL - what you should all be taking from these surveys is every brand sucks!!!! the top spot is 83 flaws per 100 cars??? That's pathetic! So we all know statistics can be used anyway you want, but think of it this way, if 100 cars each had 1 flaw that's 83% flaw rate??? Wish I could get away with that at my job...

The problem is that a flaw could be considered anything from "I can't figure out how to pair my phone!!!!" to "My engine exploded at 3500 km!"

They treat both of those with the same weighting.

This is discussed every time one of the JD Power surveys hits. To me I would look at Consumer reports stats based on real user feedback and even that is biased by the users that participate. JD Powers looks at first 90 days, I care more about 3 or 5 years down the road.

I am pretty sure that Honda / Acura biggest complaints are user interface issues and not quality issues.
Users that can't use the dual screen setup, can't use the push-button transmission, the Idle stop that you can't permanently shut-off, etc...

I see the feelings for Honda/acura still being incredibly reliable run strongly here. Every Honda/acura product I have owned, produced after 2003, has been NOTHING like the products I've had (or have known others to have), between 1988-2001.

I've been saying it for years, but it keeps falling on deaf ears. I'm not saying their cars are bad. But they aren't what they used to be.
