how much to get small section of bumper sanded and repainted?

scratched side of bumper pulling in garage

only a small section on the side

going to get a quote from Acura dealer next week, does anyone know how much this would cost to get fixed?

is it better to deal with Acura or an outside auto body shop?

Most dealers will only farm the work out to a body shop. Find a reputable body shop and get some quotes. I would guess entire bumper is only ~$500-600 so a small section can't be too bad. Painting a bumper is different that painting the body panels due to the bumper materials and they flex components in the paint. That said I have heard some shops won;t do small jobs it is easier to repaint the entire bumper as it may need to come off the car. But that is just the hear say I have heard over the years.

I'm going through that right now - I scraped my bumper (just behind the wheel well) when i backed out of the garage and hit the bumper of my old Mazda truck.

Best quote I got was $450. It's in the shop getting fixed this week. They have to remove the bumper and even though the scratches were minor they have to sand the entire bumper to remove the clearcoat, paint the scratches/scuffs, then re-apply clear to the entire bumper. The amount of paint needed is minimal - but it turns out there's no getting around applying clearcoat to the entire bumper if you want it done right.

I should add - I went to local body shops for quotes and not the Acura dealer.

I kind of figured they would have to do the whole bumper, $500-600 sounds pricey

guess I’ll have to eat it, rather not go the touch up paint route

That was my thought as well. One shop told me I could get touch up paint and apply it then polish it and it would look okay - but it would always be there. If the car was 10 years old that's the route I would go for sure - but as it stands the car is in excellent condition so the $450 seems fair. Lesson learned - always pay attention when backing up!!

^^ Touchup paint won't look the same.

They would have to do the whole bumper. That's the best way. Otherwise, it's very hard to match the clear coat and such, especially white paint.
