Honda are geniuses of the tall gearing to make a heavy car with small engine not feel like a pig. I bet it drives very nicely. And if you're trying to "go fast", adam, I highly doubt a 4 cylinder anything is what you're looking for unless it's forcing air into it.

I bet you $10 E money that you can't get to 60 in 6.6 secs in the 6mt 4 banger and get 40mpg.

Honda has FINALLY did something right with the Accord since the beauty of the 6th gen

Personally the Acura lines doesn't do much for me...and I think a new Accord can definitely be a great car for the wifey and the occasional hubby car

Too bad about no 6MT in the V6 though that kinda sucks....

I really like the look of the new Accord better than the current TLX. Acura will need to step up their game a lot with the 2017 TLX refresh. Acura has turned into the new Buick. The current Acura line-up is just not very exciting.

2016 Accord Touring can be had for around $31000 before tax and fees, which is about the same price as a TLX I4 Tech. i'm glad not in market now for a new car cuz these 2 would be my choices and hell of a tough decision.

Same here. And at that price the Accord Touring would win for me due to the following reasons...

V6, CarPlay, Heated Rear Seats, Regular Unleaded, better navigation maps, better stock wheels, and exhaust tips. Some might say the Accord Touring and I4 TLX aren't fair comparisons, but based only on price I would beg to differ.

As far as styling, in my opinion the Accord wins. I tried to like the TLX and I must admit that it is sexy from the front, but I can't get over the rear end. Seems a little too small, plain, and TSX-like.

Looks will always be subjective but personally I think the TLX looks better. I like the more muscular curve to the rear haunches whereas the Accord runs a fairly straight line from front to back. You lose a little visibility in the rear of the TLX with the slightly more sloped rear but it gives it a more sporty look IMO. There's no question they share the Honda genes though. I think it's poor planning on the part of Honda to not offer more in the way of differentiation. I think they were gun shy after the 4G styling debacle.

Like the TLX front better. But the thing catching my eye is the greenhouse is almost an exact overlay.

Even with the MMC, I think the TLX looks better. I do like the Touring wheels and exhaust tips on the Accord but I just can't get past that damn grill. At least with the TLX, it is not as pronounced.

Saw a brand new black 16 Touring with the 5-spoke rims today on the way to work. Gorgeous car with great road presence. Honda is firing on all cylinders in terms of design, pricing and feature set.

Step it up Acura...

I like the TLX grill better too...but good lord were they smoking crack with those rims. The Accord rims are hot.

Acura has lost the word "hot" from their design vocabulary (minus the new NSX).

I don't even think that accord grill is all that bad. Plus, it's one of the easiest things to modify, whether through aftermarket pieces or dipping/wrapping/painting/etc. The shape isn't bad. There's just a lot of chrome.

In such a case, the grill would be the last thing from keeping me buying the Accord. I guess as always, looks are subjective...

If it wasn't for the CVT in the 4 banger Accord, I would have considered buying one.

^^ Go with the 6MT. It's a nice combo with the 2.4 in this car.

I would be curious to go buzz a 6MT 4 Cylinder...
if it was good, it would be awesome to get close to 40mpg!

I'd still take the TLX (as I did back in September). TLX gives you a stronger V6 with DI, P-AWS on the FWD and SH-AWD as an option, IDS, ELS Audio system on the tech package (I think the Accord's sound system still blows), all trim levels have the Jewel Eyes (you have to step up to the Touring trim on the Accord for LED's), better materials, better build quality, a much quieter cabin, etc. Carplay is sort of subjective but yeah I wish Acura had gotten the new navi first. The Accord sedan isn't as athletic as the TLX. Maybe the coupe is though. I drove a 2013 Accord V6 coupe and while it was a lot of fun, I love my TLX much more!

^^ Accord audio does blow - it's my one complaint with the car. Not nearly as good as the audio on our old (Gen7) Accord.

Have you guys been to Honda service, its like life in the slums. Its dirty, busy, service guys typically new hires with very high churn rate. The service alone, kills the accord for me.

Been a very loyal acura customer but not very pleased with TLX, so if i were to buy anything else would probably be Lexus.

You can always bring your Honda to the Acura dealer....my wife used to do that.

If they put Apple CarPlay in the Accord Sport Manual, I would seriously consider that as a next option. I love the wheels on the Sport and Touring Accord, along with the dual exhaust tips.

I am very hopeful for a significant change to the 2017 TLX....hopefully on Jan 1

The service level I've received at Hamilton Honda was textbook "everything you need to do right to please the customer". They were phenomenal to me and many, many others on this forum. Sounds like you have a selected one of the poorer performing dealerships.

In the cases of Toyota/Lexus, Lexus definitely provide better service and dealership experience than Toyota in most cases.

For Acura, it is more like a hit or a miss. I think some of my local Honda dealerships are way better than Acura and some are not.

So you can say some Honda dealerships are just that good or you can say Acura's suck.

Agree, the Acura dealership I used in the Chicago area was great. I've since moved to Huntsville, Al and the same guy owns both the Honda and Acura dealerships and they are next door to each other. Not near the quality of service as I received in Chicago, and no loaner vehicles at all at either the Honda or Acura dealership. The Acura dealership experience is not a plus in this case. And they add tape pin stripes to all their cars and want to charge extra.

I guess it helps that I'm friends with some of the bros at the dealership now...service manager can sometimes throw in a loaner or something. Overall, fantastic service...

What color you thinkin?
You gonna have the Jamaican flag tint banner across the rear glass? If so, pick a color that works with the theme.

you will be surprised how much influence the "Brand" has on these dealerships.

A big chunk of dealerships earnings is from the "brand", rather than the customers directly.

A dealer can lose $ on every car they sold, but still can manage to be profitable.

Well, the brand gives incentives for them to not be a piece of shit dealership...by having them move units. Moving units generally happens if they are good to the customers...hence good dealerships are good due to management.

I wasn't saying they were doing it altruistically!

LOL...but it's done well and sold TONS to a demographic that probably feel they are too good to be caught dead in a Honda. Personally, after having a TL...I'd have a hard time being in an Accord. Had a 1997 one...been there, done that.

I realize that, but who's to say if Honda without the Acura line wouldn't be just as successful? Let's say in 1989 they stuck with the Honda Legend with high quality materials and such, and continue forward with that with momentum. There's nothing wrong with a car company that offers economy cars as well as luxury cars.

Anyway it was a gamble and it paid off.

Fair?
Very interesting history after some quick wiki research:

Acura - 1986 (Legend launch launched first compared to the others and is the first japanese luxury brand)
Infiniti - 1989 (Q45 launch)
Lexus - 1989 (LS 400 launch)

So Acura was leading the way. Of course Toyota was already developing its LS 400 and had sunk huge money/time/personnel....and the subsequent growth is hugely successful as we see today.

The biggest difference is that the ORIGINAL luxury cars that Lexus and Infiniti rolled out were new RWD platforms...and the Legend was FWD.....interesting history to consider....

Also funniest tidbit here:
Toyota researchers visited the U.S. in May 1985 to conduct focus groups and market research on luxury consumers.[15] During that time, several F1 designers rented a home in Laguna Beach, California to observe the lifestyles and tastes of American upper class consumers.
lol.....https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus

Classic japanese way....hmmmm who are these upper class americans and what do they want???....

On the original subject, here are the lease rates in Canada 36mo 36000 miles.

Accord Touring: $618CA
TLX V6 AWD: $621CA

The reason is that the residual is 56% for the Honda and 59%.

There are some equipment difference, but I think that I am going with Acura.
