Thumbs up Great MPG

Just returned from Montauk, NY; car loaded up with bags, cases, etc.
Even with the dreaded last 25 miles; bumper to bumper traffic, averaged 34.5 MPG
A/C cranking, & averaging 65-70 MPH on the open hwy
Love my TLX A-SPEC!

I have been pleasantly impressed with Acura's ability to squeeze MPGs out of this car. I have V6 AWD and at 75 MPH highway drive average 30-32MPG, unheard of a few years ago. Can't see how a I4 Turbo is going to beat that by much if any. My M37S Infiniti best I could do under same scenarios and not even AWD was 25MPG and it had a 7 speed, but no VCM. My Audi A6 AWD 3.0 Supercharged same thing about 25 MPG if I was lucky and it had 8 speed.

What is your local mileage? Would have thought you over the road would be higher.

I get around 20-21 daily driving, 11 mile backroad commute mostly 40-45mph. Some stop signs and lights, usually get it done in 20 minuets in AM car says 26MPG and trip home is usually 30-35min and car says around 19MPG.

Retired so no more commute. Logged around Raleigh 985 miles @ 38mph 22.7mpg. Local driving is in Sport+. Zeroed the counter for a beach run about 35 miles in city traffic rest interstate. 193 miles @ 70.6mph 31.6mpg. Another similar run with more highway time was 302 miles @ 70.4mph 31.9mpg. Highway driving is in Comfort mode. Car dynos 368 horsepower at the wheels equates to 400+ at the crank. Tried Eco for 10 minutes once & its IMHO a loser even if the mileage is better. Like stepping on a wet sponge when you try to accelerate. Kills the turbos in my car.

I think Acura will gain both power & mileage when they go turbo in the new generation TLX.

I agree the TLX V6 with AWD has amazing gas mileage (the best mpg I have ever seen on any of my V6s) but the new gen I4 Turbo's are in different league. My 2015 Mustang EcoBoost averaged 25-26 in city and I got 28-30 mpg on a 1200 mile trip where I was, lets say, had too much fun. Plus it had more power and Torque with wider rubber.

If you refer to Accord 2.0T or RDX 2.0T... heu no, not really. The Accord get 22/32mpg and a TLX V6 20/32. Very close.

EPA rates the 2018 BMW 330 I4 2.0 Turbo @ 24/34 27 combined. 2018 Acura TLX 3.5L FWD @ 20/32 24 combined. Pretty clear advantage to the 2 liter turbo VS the 3.5 liter V6 since the 248HP 330 will outrun the 290HP TLX.

This is a real good one for something the TLX can look forward to when the V6 goes 3.0Turbo which it should have done day 1 with the 5th generation

2018 BMW 440 I6 3.0T @ 21/32 25 combined. So you can drop half a liter in displacement, gain significant horsepower power & hold onto the fuel economy.

A lot of these numbers aren't "real world". For example, I can't remember ever getting "only" 32 mpg while driving a "normal" speed for any extended period on the highway. I usually get 35-40 mpg on the MID and even when hand-calc'ing, I think that was only off by about 1.5 mpg on average. It's almost like comparing selling prices of cars by looking at their sticker prices when there may be huge discounts on one and next-to-none on the other when their stickers are practically the same. Real world numbers usually say otherwise.

That's why the EPA says your results will vary. Its all about driving style & real life traffic conditions. Also it most cases, 80/85%, it's the manufacturer certifying their own cars with the EPA doing random hands on tests.

In the case of my own car the EPA numbers say for the stock 440 version is 25 Combined 21 city 32 highway & they hit it pretty good with 22 city 31 highway actual real life for my car. Only thing is I have the factory performance package a bit over 400BHP & my Monroney sticker says 25/21/32 same as the base engine. Something that is a real no compute

No, not in the 5-60 where it matters. (0-60mph is for disillusioned kid racers).

And if you run the TLX V6 on regular as I do, it actually costs LESS in fuel than a BMW 330i.( $1800 vs $1900). Icing on the cake, you don't have to deal with a nasty sounding engine - 2.0Toys belong to Jettas of this world.

so if you want to accelerate rapidly it's only mature to do so from 5 mph on?

His pot shots are a lot of fun to play with.

I love bring a disillusioned kid racer, see PCD Rat Race below, it certainly beats the hell out of being a boring old fart any day. Thing is, C&D says a base engine 440 rolling start, 5-60 mph is 5.0 sec flat vs 2015 TLX rolling start, 5-60 mph is 6.2 sec.

The EPA says on my cars Monroney sticker that my annual fuel cost is $1700 vs the $1800 you posted for the TLX. That is for a car that is even quicker then the base 440 version.

So let's look at the published data. Faster car, better gas mileage & less expensive to run. Big win in the pure drive your car for fun class by the disillusioned 76 year old kid vs the boring 51 year old old fart.

Still like the fact that when the traffic light turns green the kid in the 4 cylinder 330 will get lane choice at the merge & not be stuck behind an old fart wanna be Buick driver running cheap gas up a nice twisty two lane road.

Its fun being me thats why not much bothers me. When I was a genuine kid around 10 or so learning Latin I became one of Horaces fans when I read his saying "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero" . Tried to use that world view as best I could & for me it worked out very well over my lifetime.

Added 10 story up ZIP lining to the "done list" a few weeks back, always up for a challenge.
