I will just wait and see the car in person. Even if I don't like it then, it may grow on me just like some of the previous models. I bought my 1st gen TL just because my mom had one. I liked hers although it had the weird 5 cylinder. I had the 3.2. When the 2nd Gen came, I liked it right away. I bought two. The base and the type S. When the 3g came out I didn't like it. I thought it was too small and a bit on the plain side. It grew on me and then when the type S came out I bought it. When the 4G came out, I absolutely hated it. I said I would keep my 3G until the 5G was released. Well, I have had the 09 SH-AWD and now currently in a 13 SH-AWD. The 4g was the first to feel more refined than the previous generations. So I will just shut up and wait.

I think the thing that irks me the most is the incessant corporate marketing jargon & jibber jabber that is coming out of Acura with this TLX release. As an enthusiast and advocate of the brand... it is embarrassing. This Accavitti guy sounds like a door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman.
If you're going to throw out this excessive lingo... at least have the decency to back it up. Browsing to the Acura website and seeing the rather dull side profile of the TLX and the banner that says "it's that kind of thrill" is a total facepalm for me.

From what I see so far that would make a good "base" model vehicle and they really need to spruce things up to appeal to those of us that are more of a car enthusiast. Even though the exterior certainly does not blow my mind, the interior looks like it could be pretty nice, but if they re-introduced a Type S and brought back fancier and more aggressice exterior styling such as MUCH better wheels, and different skirts and for sure a nice exposed exhaust tip, then I can see this having the potential of being a pretty decent car.
As is though with no higher end model I just cannot see myself wanting to buy this over a GS350 or IS350 F Sport. I guess we are gonna have to give them a couple years if were gonna see something like that if at all.

Just market it as it is. To the demographic that is going to buy it. I think they should have gone with a more elegant/luxury take on it. Just axe the "sporty" act all together. It was a bad strategy whoever came up with it. "New roles" my ass. Somebody on their team please find a brain.

I worship at the alter of the Golden Overhang Ratio (I just made that up ). If the front of a car has a nice snubbed nose I don't care what kind of flourishes are added - bangle butt, ugly wheels, flame surfacing etc - I will generally like the car as long as the overhang ratios are good.
Imo they have blown the front overhang on this car, when they made a point of shortening the overhangs by 4" or so, and someone at Acura agrees because the silver car on their website is clearly photoshopped to have a much shorter front overhang when the car doesn't look like that at all.
I can see how someone who has a 4th gen might like it, but for those of us who like good looking cars --- i feel a little let down .

Or maybe incentives for long time TL owners. That would be a great idea.
Since they can't design a rim even if their lives depended on it, they can throw in a set of Vossens for free LOL.
PS. Suggest the VVSCV2 to reminisce the type S

It's also encouraging to see Hargett get ahead a little bit. I was afraid that people would blame him for the sales of the 4G TL. It was an excellent design and an incredibly nice car that was destroyed by the sudden turn in the economy in 2008...it was too late to turn back with a car that was a 2009 model year.
Hargett had a great car design in the 2009 model year, and it looks like he has a great car design in the 2015 model year.

I agree, when the wheels are pushed to the corners it indicates performance. Long overhangs are for old Caddys, Buicks and....er campers and buses. Acura should pull it back more.
But there is an extreme to this. The Smart car is ugly. Sorry.

Not so fast. I bought all of those cars well into the model year and some of them used. The only reason I have the 2013 model is the dealer ate my negative equity and put me in a lease in which I have for 2 more years. However, I'm sure they will be pushing to get me out of that lease for the TLX by the end of the year I'm sure. We will see.

I'm sure you guys have seen a bunch of different TLX pics since yday's reveal. Here is a little contribution from an MDXer and former RL owner - snapped these as I walked by the Acura display at the NY Autoshow today.

Summer is Coming
I really think Acura will have a big hit with this new TLX. As I look at more pictures of it, it's definitely inspired by the 3G TL, and certainly looks much fresher than the 3G TL (which I owned previously). I agree with some that the rims leave a bit to be desired, but hopefully there will be options there.
Im just hoping the Concept wheels are offered. Or something very similar with the same offset. I loved how the wheels on the concept filled the fenders. Every wheel Ive seen so far on the production model leaves a lot to be desired. I wish Acura took more risks and made wider wheels with better offsets.
Also, at the review, the blue car is the 2.4L, the grey car is the V6.

Small advice to Acura brass: next time you go to a car show, setup your display on a different floor from Honda. The Accord parallelism with the TLX is just too obvious. Also, if Alfa shows up anywhere with the 4C and some hot Italian blondes, just go home

I have not seen the navigation display in the new MDX or RLX, but looking at the last pic, it looks exactly the same as my 2012. You would think they could have updated the graphics.

I am heading to NYC this afternoon and will be at the auto show tomorrow morning for early entry before it opens to general admission. So before the crowds come in, I should have the opportunity to really examine the car in greater detail.
What are some photos that you all would like to see?

Three Wheelin'
It's too bad when Accords have exposed exhaust tips on their V-6 models but Acura, their "sporty" division, doesn't do the same. I hope they will change this on the TLX someplace along the way. My 2010 Tech is looking better by the day.

...this quote is BANG ON and should be sent to Acura headquarter!! Nothing pisses me off more when they try to take people for idiots!!
I mean come on....how can that Mike guy stand there on stage and get all excited standing by a car that is so bland!! I am not despite the driving dynamics of the car and all it will offer, but who puts the sprinkles on a vanilla cone INSIDE the cone?!?
I want the sprinkles dammit!
I know many of you find the newly released sport Camry to be ugly but I think it has a lots more character than this TLX. Maybe Mike had his eyes on the Camry in the distant background when he was giving his speech?!?

I'd like to see a close up (and a good viewing angle) pics of the various wheels....
I'd like to get your opinion on the interior and wood trim on how cheap it looks....there is one pic where I saw a big scratch and to make matters worst, it looked so plastic and fake.
If the Acura guys are there...can you whack them on the head and say "Could of had a V8!" (I assume you guys have that commercial in the States and know hat I am referring)

Looking at the interior pics, I feel that something looks weird....they give it a steering wheel with a little mesh on the bottom to make it look super sporty and then plaster fake wood everywhere?! Why not put a carbon fibre look instead?!

If you can get close to the car...
Engine bay pics of both the 4 banger and the v6 at different angles. If you can get under the car that would be nice too (just kidding).
Drop the rear seats to see how big the opening is.
Rear under photo to see what we can do (if anything) withe the exhaust tips... as close as you can get.
Also if the accessory mode is "on" then any pics of the navi screen in action and the dash instruments, display etc.
For outside pics, don't try to shoot glamour pictures. Just the height and angle anyone would look at the car.
Finally, try to find out the bolt pattern on these wheels.

4G Acura TL SH-AWD/TECH
For whatever reason whether it be finances, their lease not up, etc....whenever a new model appears (and in every way better than the outgoing model), people try to find every reason as to why their outgoing model is still superior...I love it lol
May work for some cars but definitely not the 4g TL....

You mean how you have a 3g and you are saying the 4G DEFINITELY doesn't fall in the same category of "may work for some cars"

Above all you gotta give Toyota credit. They listen to the customers as always. Not some stubborn bullheaded continued direction of their own. The Camry is dull, boring. They've heard it for years. The new Accord has proven the point by now outselling them with a MUCH better car all around. They knew they had to make a REAL change. The Camry and Corolla are their bread and butter cars. Any company would be inclined to just evolve them slowly and carefully, but this is the most extreme redesign ever. Instead of pulling a "meee too!" safe design they had the guts to do something different and extreme. They took a risk. Like I said before they are shedding that dumpy, boring image and want a performance/sporty edge. Perhaps the actual performance will not prove much more than what they've had, but at least their trying to fit the image. And the car still looks unmistakably Toyota from the back. I think it is a look that we have to get used to, it's ahead of it's time, but I think it works. One of those designs that I bet looks better in person. I think they did a great job.

I wanted to see real photo's such as this. It looks like a chopped off RLX. Can someone photo shop some better looking rims on this thing? Maybe it will give me a better idea. They don't have to be shiny chrome or anything.

Yes, I agree. Many find the new Camry repulsive. I can understand why, they didn't make it exactly friendly or attractive. It's not my style but I don't find it ugly.

I wonder what's up with exhaust tips? This is one of those areas where most manufacturers have gone to great lengths in terms of styling cues. Acura had certainly done so starting back with the 2nd gen TL that I had--the twin round tail pipes were quite prominent, especially when most other sport sedans had maybe one or two pipes at the left side. Then Acura had the squared off boxes integrated into the bumper with the 3rd gen and emphasized that even more with the 4th gen. Similarly other manufacturers spend an awful lot of time tweaking around with the rear fascia, typically integrating but emphasizing the exhaust.
So now in a stroke of "genius" someone at Acura now thinks it is better to totally hide the tailpipes? The only thing that makes sense is that some "special" model will be coming out with a reworked sportier fascia with visible exhaust to differentiate it from the base model.

Well outside of the typical modern day Acura ugliness. They have managed to keep another redeeming Acura standard. The Double Wishbone Front remains! http://www.edmunds.com/acura/tlx/201...res-specs.html
