get a TLX or stay with my TSX

hi Guys,
i am here to get some suggestions, help, ideas,
anyways i have a 2009 tsx currently has 170k miles on it. i bought it 4 years ago with 80k miles.
i drive alot almost 700 miles a week.
there is nothing wrong with my TSX, but i am afraid that i will start having problems with the car.
currently the right wheel bearing and inner tire rod needs replacement.

i am thinking about buying a different used car. keep it around 22k or less
i really like the new TLX but after hearing all the issues, i am afraid on getting one. has the transmission issue being resolved?
i would rather stay with my old TSX if i have to deal with all these issues.

Either get 2.0T 2018 Accord or keep tsx

if you want a tlx, get a 2018 aspec which is outside of your budget

you can always get used 2013-2015 Accord

I wouldn’t wish the problems and ugliness of the tlx on my worst enemy

Were I in your shoes I would give strong consideration to a new 2017 Honda Accord. You should be able to negotiate a strong discount as they need to clear them off the lot for the 2018's coming in. You'll get the new car warranty and have access to new car financing rates which tend to be pretty good via Honda - we got .9% when we bought our CRV last Fall. That will be your absolute best value. Plus the 9th gen Accord should be rock solid and built to take all those miles you're going to throw at it with minimal maintenance.

If you want to explore the TLX I would stay away from the 2015 models and you're going to be okay.

A used 4cyl TLX w/ the DCT would probably be a suitable replacement to your TSX.

I agree a 2017 Accord or post-2015 TLX would be good choices, but you could also consider a new Civic, even an Si if you want MT. I have a 2010 TSX and have driven a new Civic Si, and while the interior isn't as luxurious, road noise is similar, while handling, highway acceleration, and fuel economy are vastly superior. The current Civic sedan isn't that much smaller than the TSX; I think the trunk is actually larger. Since you do lots of driving, the fuel economy might be a nice bonus. New car warranties are good too. You shouldn't have to stretch much above $22k to get a fairly well equipped model.

I could definitely understand wanting the additional luxury/substance of a TLX, especially for long distance driving, and it has excellent fuel economy too. But this current Civic generation is very impressive.

My 2015 TLX V6 Adv has been a great car with no major issues - only items need addressing are tranny software updates and now the ZF9 is shifting smoothly. As a side note, when trading my '14 RLX Adv PAWS they also offered a tade-in on my '15 TLX with 24xxx miles. You should be able to get a gently used '15 TLX for $23000

Stay far away from 2015s, not worth the cost savings. You can either get a good one or a shit one which no update in the world can fix with it having a mechanically defective transmission unit. You then have to deal with Acura to authorize a swap. Not worth your time, pay a little more and go straight to a 2016 to get better resale value and peace of mind.

You can probably get a 17' Accord for a steal right now.

Or wait for the 18' Accord to come out and get a 6MT.

I wouldn't get a TLX, especially a 15' like everyone is stating. Resale on them aren't great either.

170K miles is nothing.

There's nothing wrong with your car except for a bad wheel bearing and tie rod. Ok. Are you trying to rationalize that it's better to spend up to $22K on a used car with an unknown maintenance history vs spending a few hundred to replace a bad wheel bearing and tie rod on your TSX?

Personally, I'd rather fix whatever needs addressing on the TSX and keep it for another 2-3 years and wait to see what the 2G TLX is like and decide then on what to do.

Agree....keep the TSX and wait and see what happens with the TLX....or a late model Accord. Right now the payments are $0, but even some repairs is cheaper than a monthly payment.

I assume your TSX is a 4 cylinder as I believe they didn't bring out the V6 option until 2010. I leased a 2009, 2010, and 2012 (Base, Premium, Tech) TSX, all 4 cylinders, and all great cars. Yes, I get bored and upgraded a couple of times as I had people take over my leases. I assume you would be looking at the 4 cylinder DCT TLX? I currently lease a 2016 Tech and really enjoy the DCT paired with the 206 hp engine. The combination gives the car smoother acceleration and with the PAWS is more fun to drive. Personally, i prefer the interior of the TLX and have got a number of positive comments from passengers with the white with espresso milano leather combo. In any case, there are always good options as detailed by other members, including staying with what you have. However, as one of the few 4 cylinder guys on the forum who has also leased a 6 cylinder SH-AWD TLX and several TSXs, I thought I would provide my two cents. I also agree that you are safer with a 2016 if the price works.

Forget the Accord 2017 and less.. they feel way too much pedestrian. You will find them dull.

Get a 2015+ TLX 2.4 or 2016+ TLX 3.5 - they are great cars. with a reasonable luxo-ambiance.

Or just buy another 2nd generation TSX with low mileage. Maybe not as low as 22K, but I've seen a few for sale with around 35-45 K miles. I got a 2012 TSX with 38K miles a couple of months ago.

thank you for all the great replies, i have considered looking into the accord and now that you guys mentioned it i will look into civic also.
the other cars that i have considered are Lexus IS and infiniti q50.

after driving acura and all with all the luxurious features i feel like accord would feel duller.

the other issue i have with accord is its a very common car. my TLX still looks sportier on road

after doing the research, i feel like i can save the money and keep the tsx for now.

I have a 2010 TSX with 131k. It still drives excellent and has had zero issues. Only normal maintanance. I have decided to hold off until at least next July and maybe even the following year to buy new. I just can't justify spending the money. A very solid car.

Similar story here. My 2010 has 111k miles. It's been incredibly reliable, and is just barely showing signs of age, with the clutch/shifter starting to get a little wonky in recent months. I thought I'd keep it only five years, and I'd like something smaller with higher performance, but it's been so good that I can't justify spending the money. That might change, however, now that Honda is offering Sensing with MT. I assume this trend will spread beyond the Fit and Accord, and I might go for a Civic Si or Type-R if those models get Sensing, or possibly a next-gen ILX if I can deal with a DCT.

OP, when I had my TSX, the I4 TLX didn't feel like a big enough improvement over the 2G TLX. I would definitely look at the Accord if I were in your position.

I went from a M35X (great car) to a 2015 TLX and now have 2018 TLX A Spec (Black w/ red interior). The Infiniti had more punch IMO, but the TLX handles better and is more fun to drive all around. I've driven Q50's and would take the A Spec over the Q50 in a heartbeat. If the TLX added more horses, wouldn't even put Q50 in the conversation. Just my opinion though.

My wife has a 15 TLX Tech (bought new in 8/15). I much preferred her 10 TSX & even told her service advisor this (my favorite Acura was her 02 TL Type S, followed by her 94 Legend). Tranny is awful. Service dept. said hers doesn't get the TSB. I'm trying to convince her to get something else when she decides she wants a new car.

The TSX 2nd gen is a major step back compared to the 1st one. It looks bloated in inharmonious. The TLX is much more modern & polished product, no contest.

This may be sacrilege but the K24 TSX doesn't really appeal to me in comparison to the TLX 2.4 (auto v. auto). That said, I wouldn't mind having the TSX V6 as a garage mate to my TLX V6/MDX.

I can definitely attest to the torque steer, though I still think my old 5.5G Maxima was a bigger offender. However, I'm not sure I would classify the V6 PAWS as dull. Definitely not what I would accuse of being a full blown sports sedan but it's not dull either...particularly when it comes to mid-range acceleration.

Honestly, Honda should have done more than wrap the TLX V6 PAWS wheels with Patness. Maybe an LSD should have been a consideration. If one wants to go WOT off the line in the TLX V6, SH-AWD is must.....unless you're going for a burnout display.
