Extended warranty

Extended warranty
my google-fu isn't great so I didn't find much info on this, but has anyone bought or considering buying the extended warranty for the TLX? With the current situation with the transmission, I'm kinda worry that in the long run, I will end up paying for a new one once my warranty is over. Is it worth the price to get it cover for up to 8yrs/120k miles?

The extended warranty is a good option if you extend out the comprehensive warranty. The car has a lot of technology in it and that will cover most of the stuff in the car. Price is a factor yes but depending on your situation is may be worth it...whats the price and are you financing the car?

I asked for a quick online quote, and it is only offered me 5yrs/120k miles cover for $1700. Not sure if it because the car is 1yr old or not, but did not see the 8yrs offer. I been looking around online, and for those new car offer with 8yrs is about the same price, or at least that's what I've found. I might have to give them a call and see what is my actual price. I have never buy these stuff, so I am not sure what to ask or look for. If my understanding is correct with those extended warranty, even though its said X yrs, the warranty start at the time you bought the warranty instead of kick in after your factory warranty expired? I also will have to double check with my insurance, Geico, as they did mentioned something about I am covered bumper to bumper for 7yrs (forgot the mileage) with $250 deductable. I don't really look into these in the past as I rarely have issue with Honda, but this TLX, I already have issues. I do like the car and plan to keep it for awhile, so I am looking for additional coverage.

I got the extended warranty as I got a SH-AWD in Nov of 2014, one of the first out of the chute. Hope not to need it. ;-)

I opted for the 7 year option through Curry Acura over the phone. I plan on owning my TLX for the entire 7 years, so the odds of it paying off are pretty good.
As for the price increasing and options changing, I tinkered with the quote thing a bit and discovered that at 6,000 miles is when prices go way up. I waited until about 5,900 and then bought it Pain-free process.
One other benefit, is that roadside assistance is extended to ALL Hondas and Acuras in your family, regardless of year or mileage.

AcuraCare is an exclusionary coverage, which means they outline specifically what IS NOT covered. Anything not on that list, is implicitly covered. You can see the list here: https://www.curryacuracare.com/coverage.cfm

Just spoke with 3 different places; 1 was from CurryAcura, which 5yrs 120k for $1700 or $1600 with $100 deductible. The second was from the dealership I got the car, 6yrs 100k for $1900 with $100 deductible, and one more dealership which is too high to even mention. You guys think the price is good or should I make more calls to different dealership from different county and or states?

For your reference, I bought my Acuracare 6yrs/120K miles for around $1400 with $0 deductible in 2013 for my 2013 TL Tech within 30 days of taking delivery. I think BEFORE 6K miles is when you can get it cheapest. I am sure price has gone up since then. I got it from Bob at Hyannis Honda. He has retired by the way but there should be someone else you can talk to. They have online quotes via email too.

Curry Acura and the 3rd dealership did asked for my mileage and big different on the price, but the second dealership didn't ask and I totally forgot about it (it was the first one I talked to a live person). Somehow I got transfer to the same lady that did my paperwork and offer me back then, and she remembered that I rejected the offer lol. I will have to call more and see which is the lowest.

I also got a quote from Hyannis Honda at around 1700 miles and for 6 years/120k it was $1245 with $0 deductible, and $1140 with $100 deductible.

Back in 2014, they quoted me 6 years/120k and $0 deductible for $1410. With $100 deductible, it was $1305. I had about 2000 miles on the car at the time.

Yeah, I don't drive as much as I did in my 3G, but I still probably average 20-25k per year, so for me it was about the miles, not the years. Just take the cheapest one and make sure it's an AcuraCare warranty that will be honored at any Acura dealership.

Thanks Rocketsfan. Good thing you mentioned that I need to check if all dealership will be honored the acuracare. For me would be the mileage as well since I avg about 20k per year. I called 3 local dealerships so far and Curry Acura seem to be the best out of all.

Don't forget another benefit of Acuracare: If you sell or trade the car before the end of the extended warranty, you can get a prorated refund. So even if you don't use it, you get some of your investment back.

Just double checking, Acuracare should be honor anywhere regardless where I bought the plan right? There are 2 plans that I am still debating. 1 is $1900 for 7yrs/120k start when I bought the car. Still have to confirm with the sale lady about this since the car is no longer considering new car. The second option is from Curry Acura, $1700 5yrs/120k.

Spoke with Marin Acura, and mentioned I found elsewhere a bit cheaper and he asked if it Curry Acura. He said they scammed lots of people where they take the money but have not issue the certificate for the warranty. He also mentioned they are in deep crap for money. Is this true? Has anyone know or hear anything about Curry Acura?

As a personal rule of thumb I never buy extended warranties for anything. Over the years the money I've saved could buy me a Ford Focus for cash!!!! MOST things are going to fail fairly soon usually within the first few months. After that it's typically wear and tear. They sell these warrenties because they make a significant profit on them. All in all, rarely is it a good investment for the individual owner. Sure there will be exceptions. But like Vegas, the house rarely loses in the aggregate.

I read warranties are marked up 50%. Knowing that in 2010 I asked for half off the $1200 extended warranty for my new TSX ( I think it was 5 yrs /100k). I paid $600. You should always negotiated the warranty.

I also tried to asked for lower price, no luck at my dealership. Maybe I'll go and try again in person next week when I drop off my car for the TSB update.

Yep, there are always exceptions. My VW GL Quantum GL5 was such a mess I traded it for a loss after the 2 year warranty. With the 4 yr 50,000 mile Acura warranty you should be able to get out near break even should you need to. That VW was in the shop MONTHLY!
But out of the many high ticket purchases that was my sole exception. Over the 21 cars in my life that was the only one with persistent operational problems. I did dump a Mitsubishi Galant but only because snails could out pace me in it! No shop issues.

This will always be a person decision. I've taken the philosophy of never buying an extended warranty for anything. I figure that over the years I've accrued enough "savings" by passing on them that even if I had a $4,000 (or whatever) bill for a blown transmission I would still be ahead of the game.
I've been in sales for way too long and understand that when they try to push something like this on you it's not for altruistic reasons - it's because it's a profit center for them. You *may* come out ahead but much like in a casino the house will almost always win!

I tend to agree. But I drive 18K a year and out of warranty quickly. So if I can get a good deal extending the warranty I do it. With all the new tech it's scary to think the cost of what it is to fix it. But cars are more reliable than ever which is also a consideration

I been buying warranty on some of my electronic devices in the past, does not cost much but covered 3-4 years. With my luck, my equipment die within a week of my warranty period is over. I don't know if this will do the same lol. I avg about 18-20k miles per year. Spending pretty much $1700 - $1900 just to cover addition 30k miles is a bit expensive. Been debating back and forth, I guess I will skip then. Hopefully my Geico insurance covered what needed to be repair, if I am still with them that long. Thanks all for your inputs. =)
