Thumbs up DC Area: TLX event @ Tysons Corner Center Sat. 8/30

Received this email from Acura the other day. If you have nothing better to do this Labor Day weekend and don't want the hassle of a dealer to get your feet wet, this might be a decent way to do it.

BTW--The "Explore More" link just takes you to acura.com's TLX landing page. I can't find any more info on the event (like which parking lot it will be in).

Well I guess I'll show up. With Tyson's as occupied as it is, you'd think Tyson's Galleria would have been a better choice.

With all that traffic in the area, it will be hard to open it up.

Agreed... Of course I'll have mine up @ Summit Point this weekend and hope to take it out on track for a few (not so) hot laps at the WDCR SCCA MARRS Labor Day Double.

Is it like an autox course or do you just get to drive the TLX in traffic on Route 7?

Thumbs up nice all around

Okay, what I can type on a phone. Spent 1-2 hrs. there, got a good feel for the cars. Drove the 4/6/SH twice. Like everyone else, the 4 is very light and nicely balanced but no torque (for the lead foots), the 6 heavier and more weighted feeling but spins off the line, and the SH the best overall for me. Rear bias acceleration is always useful IMHO. Steering on all is lighter than the 3G. Didn't do hard braking.

No real dislikes other than already mentioned. I do like having audio/HVAC/control replication on the larger further away top screen, it's much easier to read quickly at speed that way. Good ergonomics Acura. The MID thumb wheel is correctly intuitive, not like some horrible electronic interfaces can be. Neat the way the DRLs are the top 1/8" of the LEDs.

The info girl product rep really knew almost everything, except for one that no one could answer. Not having read about it, is the electric parking brake a mechanical drum/disc lock like usual or possibly a fluid line lock, since the brake hold assist is already doing that? The pedal moves further on parking brake engagement.

I'm satisfied, a BCP/parchment SH-AWD or me!

2200 mAh battery stick, like those square box matches. But I finagled a black polyester Acura cap at the dealer training.

Found it in the manual - the parking brake uses an electric motor to apply the discs / shoes. Which means that isn't releasing if there's a dead battery.

Exclamation tow warning

It means that since the parking brake and 9AT are now unable to be released, any tow operator must put one end on a dolly or else it'll be dragged on and off a flatbed. Damn if he tries to drag either end rolling.
