Considering Acura, thoughts welcome
Hello everyone, been awhile since I've posted. I'm not sure when I'll buy my next vehicle depends on many things. I keep thinking a new TLX is around the corner but nothing from Acura. I like the new RDX it's quite nice, well built, quiet etc. Also would be easy to haul bikes around, at 6'6 I have plenty of headroom, lots of good things about the RDX. However, I'm more of a car guy, I like the TLX ASpec AWD and lots of rumors of TypeS making a come back. It's tempting to list my BMW for sale now while it's got a lot of warranty left on the CPO/Maint plan and let someone else buy it, then pickup something else.
I could roll around in a current ASpec a few years while they work the kinks out of the next gen car and come out with a type S...
The TLX will likely get better real world MPG vs the RDX but the lack of a turbo means trips in the mountains or if we move to CO, the engine may feel anemic and underpowered. It's been awhile since I drove a current gen TLX but I remember the trans felt really slow. It may be hard to top my 2015 335i M Sport as a DD, it gets great mileage, (got 34.7 on a trip back from Lincoln a few weeks ago with speeds of 70-80+ and I wasn't babying the car). Good stereo, good build quality, etc but our BMW dealer in Tulsa is poor, very poor especially after warranty is gone.
I want something a bit cheaper to run day-to-day, I prefer AWD, and most importantly I need something with more room for my growing kids to sit behind me. Things are tight in the 3 series, I *think* the TLX will provide a couple inches of much needed rear legroom.
I'd love to hold out for a next gen TLX but reality is I won't buy a first 6 or 9 mos of production and prefer to buy CPO. That steers me towards the current car, picking up an RDX next year or snagging something else like a Q50 or some other SUV like an X3 or something.
I would appreciate any thoughts or comments or questions, thank you!

Can you provide some direct thoughts on driving dynamics? As well as day-to-day pro's/con's? For example, stereo is better in Acura, but BMW suspension was better...also what about backseat room and overall cabin room?

If you go German instead of Acura, realize you'll pay a lot more for the same features. The Germans will drive a lot better but their cost of tech is staggering.

If you're looking for more legroom, you're going to be disappointed. Believe it or not, even the Civic has 3" more rear legroom than the TLX. Not sure where it went, but the TLX has 4" less rear legroom than the old Accord, even though they're built on the exact same platform and have the exact same wheelbase.

Other than the 9AT ZF I love my 19 ASPEC and even the ZF is tolerable. I suspect the car will be very solid for years at this point and correct I suspect the next TLX will have a few bugs to work out. While I love my wife's 19 RDX Advance AWD the center stack is a bit obnoxious, but overall a good car. Once Android Auto was added to the TLX it really makes up for much of the Infotainment short comings and makes the TLX a really great car. I love my Red Leather interior, the ride is good and the V6 in the TLX while not a race car is butter smooth and I can easily get 30MPG on the highway and 22 around town for my commuting. To me the next TLX better have a Type S and the G70 Sport will have to be in its cross hairs as all the reviews on the G70 are is that it is a beast and right up there with 3 - series. A loaded G70 Sport AWD is around $53K when they release any day now.

Yeah it's super bizarre. It's not like the Accord has less front legroom; front legroom is the same size for both. I suspect the larger fuel tank of the TLX (which is located right under the rear seats) is why everything in the back got shifted forward a few inches.

I agree. Prior to my '16 TLX, I had a '13 TL and the TL had plenty of backseat room. I was a bit concerned about the backseat room in the TLX because I knew it was slightly smaller. My concerns were abated though. I'm 6'1" and I can sit behind myself in the TLX with no problem. I wouldn't call it spacious necessarily but neither would I call it tight. 2 adults in the back or 3 children would be totally fine.

Think the key on the seat is what is big enough in your case. The car might be great for you check it out in person. Overall its a very good family car.

I am 6 foot and I find the TLX acceptable, I miss my Infiniti M37S as it felt more spacious. If you look at what Audi is doing in their smaller car I think it helps, they let the front seat go extremely far back to give the driver great legroom, of course the rear passenger suffers.

One of the biggest weaknesses of the TLX is the rear seat legroom next to the transmission. In fact, the ILX and TLX are almost identical in terms of RLR which is ridiculous. We sat in one at last years NY Auto Show then test drove a 2018 SH-AWD Advance model and instantly took it out of consideration in favour of the current generation Accord. Outside of the Honda Odyssey, the Accord has the most rear legroom of any Honda/Acura product in production. IMO, the whole concept of the TLX was a mistake up to this point and I seriously doubt if they will make the interior significantly roomier for the next generation but it would be nice if they at least brought it back up to the standard of the 4th gen TL. Hopefully we can consider Acura again in 2019 if they do indeed come out with a next generation TLX, RLX, and release the Type S version of the RDX as is rumoured.
