I'm thinking at night the camera is getting a lot of light reflected off the trim around the camera and it is saturating the gain. I bet if there was a shroud around it it might be okay.

has anyone tried replacing their camera with a different one? Is it the camera or the screen that's poor resolution.

Here is the before and after. May not appear so in the photo but there is a positive difference.

We finally getting some rain here and it's rendered the backup camera useless. Raindrops accumulate on it and no matter how much rain-x or wax I put it still accumulates. Stupid how it sticks out so much, my 08 TL never had that issue

All cars I have owned with back up cameras have this issue. No way around it without an enclosure w/wiper.

The GS350 I had had the same thing. My 08 & 12 TL's did the same thing. My RLX does too.

It's much worse at night with a wet camera, wet side mirrors and wet driveway. I back up my driveway which winds around my house to the garage. It's always a challenge, to say the least

So just curious, did this correct the color problem (i.e., no green)?

Everything in life is relative. You can understand how shitty these backup cameras are ONLY WHEN you drive a vehicle with a GOOD camera system; until you do that, your perspective on the issue will be limited [at best].

I understand about the price competitiveness strategy (keeping costs down) but a vehicle such as this [1. Marketed as luxury segment 2. Poor rear visibility in my opinion] requires a backup camera (parking sensors would also help) so the point is: Why to install such a crappy backup camera system? They could have invested an extra $200 in the camera system and thus increase the price by this amount, and I am sure that not many people would complain.

At the same time I am not sure that all the blame has to go to the backup camera; ... The screen resolution and colors are ATARI-like and this might play a role in this situation too

I noticed the backup camera in my TLX is useless at night as well. If you're parked in a dark area without other street or ambient light sources, you cant really see anything. While it is grainy I think its not so much as the quality of the camera(grainy) but the camera's low-light sensor's ability. The backup camera on my 08 TL was also grainy but it had a better low light capability.
Also, for those talking about changing out the camera. Would that affect the multi-angle feature?

I think that has to do with the reverse lights. The reverse lights on the TLX are a mere fraction of the size of those on the TL. I also felt the reverse lights on the TL being so near the camera had alot to do with the low-light capabilities of the camera as well.

Raindrops did collect on the TL camera, but nowhere near as much as it does on the TLX, imo.

I put this in a thread about 3 things that are definitely NOT the same quality from 2013 TL to 2015 TLX (the other being the screen resolution in general and the sound of the audio).

The camera on my TL was this "button" looking camera (of course no variable views). Looking at the TLX it is a teeny small lens camera. NO WAY it can produce the same resolution the fantastic camera of the past had.

My mother drives a civic and this now looks like what her backup camera res looks like.

Don't waste time taking the car in or saying it is defective. it is what it is... There are other non important areas that were cut back from the TL (flimsy sunglasses holder... very cheap feeling moonroof shade) but this is something that shouldn't have been messed with.

Last week for my job I had the opportunity to drive a 2015 BMW X5 at night. I was shocked to see how bad was the resolution on its camera. Now I don't feel so disappointed in my 16 ILX camera considering the price difference between the two vehicles.

I wholeheartedly disagree. DO COMPLAIN. DO SAY IT IS DEFECTIVE OR SUB-PAR. Otherwise we just open ourselves up to paying for a "premium vehicle" with low value features which will never be addressed.

Products are supposed to improve over time for the consumer not just cut costs and raise profits for the investor.

It is what it is because somebody screwed up. I almost backed into my fence the other night because I couldn't see it. Perhaps if someone runs over their child then Acura will listen??? What's it going to take???

Just remember the old adage... "The squeaky wheel gets the grease."

I had a 2007 Lexus IS and the backup camera was pretty much the same, minus any controls. At least the TLX has wide angle and top down settings and brightness can be adjusted.

IMO, the TLX has a better experience. Maybe it's a function of 2007 model vs 2015 model but that's my experience.
