Auto Engine Off feature in Acura TLX 2017

This feature causes a very sluggish car pickup after stopping at red signal. It takes perhaps 20-30 seconds for car to pickup speed, which is very annoying. I want to know if this is normal with this feature or perhaps my car needs some adjustments.

Truth be told, I always turn auto start/stop when I first start the vehicle. I find the feature to be annoying as ****. But yeah, it's not smooth and there's always some initial hesitation as the vehicle kicks back into life.. I've driven BMWs with the same feature and they are not smooth either.

As ZipSpeed said it is part of my startup routine, start car, disable auto start/stop and enable LKAS. In my Audi it was a tad more responsive, but I still disabled it. I suspect we will see this more an more to meet MPG targets. Hopefully the auto makers will catch on that it an annoying feature. To me the TLX start/stop is very laggy.

My A4 isn't too bad. I never turn it off, but I can see why it could bother people. The dealership went out of its way to tell me how to turn the feature off.

What do you mean it makes the car more sluggish? Auto start stop just shuts off at a red light to save gas, once engine is on it behaves normal. Your not referring to Adaptive Cruise Control following a car accelerating slowly are you?

Spoiler, I think he means input lag/delay between depressing the gas pedal, and getting underway. Maybe I'm wrong, who knows?

I usually leave it enabled. When at a stoplight I let off brake when I see the cross-traffic caution come on or the car ahead of me start to roll - as soon as it starts acceleration is normal. On the occasion I'm caught off guard when the light turns green and the engine is off, I'm rolling with normal operation <= 2 seconds.

20-30 seconds is a long, LONG time.....

Yeah, more like a 2 second lag in my V6.

Bizzare post. When I had my 3.5, I used the Auto engine off without any affect on subsequent acceleration once you tap the peddle or turn the steering wheel to restart the engine. The system has no affect on subsequent throttle response. Perhaps the poster is referring to Eco mode, although the 20-30 second time to "get up to speed" still make zero sense.

So I can feel a substantial lag in response as I am fast from brake to gas and the engine is still ramping up. It was not horrible, but very noticeable. Also I believe my tranny was more inconsistent when using strap/stop as I suspect when the engine shuts down fluids stop flowing thus temperature fluctuations or something else.

Yea, I think this is where Acura's Sport Hybrid system would be a huge advantage. With the electric motors, the engine can be switched off and restarted seamlessly without hesitation/delay/lag/jerkiness/whatsoever.

Whish they made a way to turn if off at all times, instead of turning it off at every start

Is your Auto Start/Stop pressure sensitive? Is it possible to brake at a stop light and NOT have the engine shut off?

Yes, sometimes a reminder comes on to say press brake harder to engage auto stop
