After 24 yrs

After 24 yrs I have left ACURA. I still have my RLX SH-awd but traded the wife's 2015 TLX Adv for a 2019 BMW 540i. She was originally looking at the X5 SUV but the one she really liked was $85K for I steered her to a 540i. Nice car but I feel the Acura's leather is more plush. The color she chose was Imperial Blue Metallic with Cognac Dakota leather interior. A showroom model with upgrade wheels and tires (235/35R20 fronts and 275/30R20 rears) - I bought the tire and wheel protection package.

Congratulations!! I’m a big fan of the G30, having had the pleasure of driving an Xdrive and RWD version at a BMW event last year.

New BMWs are a little steep in price IMHO but I’m hoping to come across a well cared for used G30 when my TLX comes off lease in a couple of years.

Keep us posted on your experiences.

Thank you. Yes, prices are steep and they are proud of their cars. Would not show me the dealer invoice and initially would not come down much in price. I reminded them it was Feb. 23 with end-of-month approaching. Finally got them down $7000 and threw in the maintenance plan for 5 yrs/80000 miles. Only got 19000 for trade.

Beautiful 5 series. No one would blame you for leaving Acura. Many have already done so.

My wife's TLX had 33432 miles on the ODO - it was in such great shape (just put new Michelins on it and had full service done plus recent recall) they just drove it to the used lot. I went to pick up the 540i Monday afternoon and was told the TLX sold that morning.

This is one of the things that worries me about leasing a car (I'm on my first car lease). The dealer know you have a deadline and tries to do not negotiate much. It took me almost 3 months to get down to the price I wanted on my CTS-V (one of the failed attempts when I walked away was the afternoon of New Year's Eve!!!).
I was able to do so (and got a fantastic deal in the end) because I had a perfectly fine car which I owned so no deadline. In my experience even the BMW dealer eventually was coming down in price significantly. I'm considering getting again a third beater car to avoid "end of lease anxiety" for my next car negotiation (assuming I decide to return my Caddy at the end of my leasing period). A nice used manual Subaru Outback to keep around is always useful!! LOL.

Thats unsurprising. Within 50 miles of my home in central NJ, there are only 90 used 16-17 TLX V6s showing up for sale on Car Gurus, with only 27 SH-AWD models. So they are moving pretty well on the secondary market. (I saw a rare red 17 GT model recently.)

In my experience Acura are hot sellers in the used market because of their reliability reputation. My 4G SH-AWD 6MT was gone within one week of the trade in and they were asking top dollars for it at that time, I even joked about it with the salesperson (You are not going to get that kind of money for it!!).
I do not know for how much they did let it go in the end but considering that it sold very quickly I suspect not much of a discount.

The TLX sold for $20,995 - not a huge profit for them but they did not need to put any dollars into it either, and 1 day on the lot.

I had a '13 328 that was totalled that I loved. That said, I always had this anxiety in the back of my mind in regards to post warranty maintenance cost. Solid car though, firm suspension (mostly cuz the run flats), fit and finish above Acura, and a phenomenal 4 cylinder turbo engine that provided excellent torque and sports car feel yet gave me 37 mpg on long drives to Vegas from LA.

That said, I do love my current 19 TLX A-Spec. Seats are more comfy and the ride is more luxurious; however, with more body roll when carving through turns. K24 engine is old but tried and true with enough room in the engine bay that's inviting me to wrench it myself for basic maintenance and even more cost savings. Oh, the 8SDCT is the smoothest tranny that I've ever drove and is an absolute joy to use.

I have never leased a car but think about trying it out but this is something I have thought about as well.

Nice choice, @miner . The current 5-series is not a bad car at all.

I feel the TLX leather was better quality but this 3.0L inline six with turbo is fun to drive. My first fully rear wheel drive car in years (since my 1979 Hurst Olds Cutlass W30).
