TLX Splash Guards

Hey guys,

I need some fast info before I sign on my new TLX tomorrow. Basically, I want the front and rear splash guards, but my dealer won't give them to me.

I currently have an ILX that has them, can I take them off the ILX and reuse them on the TLX? If not, I'd rather buy online instead of give more money to the dealer.

How hard is it to install the splash guards myself if I purchase them online?

Thanks! Pics to come

Congrats on the new TLX.
I don't have the splash guards but they look simple to install. You might save some money doing it yourself too.
Anyway, but that's a dumbass dealership/dealer if they won't do it for you. I don't understand why they wouldn't. When I bought mine, it was offered as an optional accessory if I wanted to pay the price for it.

It was very simple to install. I installed mine myself. There are pdfs available online that walk you through it.

I bought them at my selling dealership via an employee discount and had the service guys install them while I was at work one day last week. Employee cost was like $144 for the parts and $68 to install. Sure I could have put them on myself but I was pressed for time before I went out of town for a weekend and def wanted them on before my road trip.

As for taking them off your ILX and putting them on your TLX.....I guess it might work but I can't imagine them fitting flush or not looking a little awkward. The OEM ones fit really really and are custom molded to the contours, and match the paint.

Buy them online and install them yourself. Simple to do - but you do need to remove the rear wheels just to have room to secure them. Online is about 40% off dealer price.

I just picked up my BWP TLX AWD Tech and the only accessory I added at the dealer was the remote start (since it will be covered by the manuf. warranty). All other accessories I plan to add (splash guards, trunk tray, etc.) I'll buy online and do myself.

Thanks, the dealer did offer it, but wanted to charge full msrp. I was having none of that!

Yea a little part of me was hoping my first gen ILX splash guards would be a transferable part but I just double checked online and they're different part numbers

Thanks everyone for the comments, I will order them online (any suggestions?) and have them shipped to blaine. I'm assuming even with the CAD conversion, shipping them to the boarder and picking them up myself will be cheapest.

By the time you factor in your time and headache to put them on, it would have cost the same or less to have the dealer do it, MSRP and all.

That's true, however, if I factor in the time it takes me to enter the car, drive to the border, cross with nexus, pick up part and come back all within 45 minutes. I don't think that's too much of a trade off. Installation is pretty easy when my buddy owns a shop so hoisting, tire removal takes all but 2 minutes to screw in some self tapping screws from what I gather through the pdf installation guide. (thx mr hyde for that tip)

When I had my '07 TL, I ordered the splash guards online for a deep discount vs. buying them at the Acura dealer. I usually get my car serviced at my local Honda dealer and I asked them to install when I had my tires rotated. They charged me $35 for the install. Felt like it was a very fair price.

Yeah it's the latter aspect (buddy with shop) that makes the difference. ;-) I got mine discounted as part of the early buyer incentives, so it was a no-brainer for me. I was surprised at how much they changed the look of the car for the better, in addition to being functional.

I like them much better than the body kit. simple, yet functional

Coming from an S2000, to the ILX, it was not enough power, still not big enough for a growing family and the interior cabin noise was not much quieter. Got married earlier this year so driving around in the S as the single family car just isn't practical. I've always been a big Honda fan at heart and all my past vehicles served me until it was just time to let go.

I'm guessing you've really beat the dealer up on price? I got a pretty good deal in my opinion on my TLX and they still threw in wheel locks, all season mats, trunk tray, and front and rear splash guards for free!

Busted balls on my deal, they will not budge any further for the splash guards lol! I might bite the bullet and get them to do the install at cost instead of waste time shopping around.

Yeah, at a certain point it's not worth your time to spend days shopping price and then taking the car all over the area to save a few bucks. I like a great deal as much as the next guy/gal but at the end of the day, my time is valuable and I'll spend a little extra for convenience.

As a Canadian I'm surprised they were not already installed and part of the package. II don't have the worry in my area as they have always built mudguards and rubber mats and trunk liner into every Acura I have owned (5) I simply bargain from that total price, arrive at a price I am happy with and they can live with and don't have the extra hassle.

I do not envy your winter seasons mapleloaf, I used to live in calgary for 3 years and it snowed 5 months of the year.

Last time we saw snow in vancouver, it lasted for 2 days and was only 5 cm high. On the third day we got rain and it just washed everything away

I bought my TLX back in August 2014 and am still considering getting the splashguards. Still not sure, but I did inquire a couple of weeks ago what the cost would be to get all 4 and have them installed by the dealer. They said it would be around $400 (can't remember if that was installed or not... probably not). At that price, if I decide to do it, I'll probably just buy them online and install them myself.

Pretty simple really just make sure you have a very small screw driver and turn the front wheel in or out dending on the side.

That's pretty outrageous. Retail on the parts is a bit over $200 for all 4 splash guards and the labor is around an hour to an hour and a half.

I just had front and rear splash guards installed on my TLX yesterday at the dealership here near Pittsburgh. As I scheduled the appointment, they quoted me about $300 installed. Their paper invoice left in the car yesterday read zero amount due, but I suspect that they'll run my visa credit card today for the transaction.

I thought for that price, it was reasonable.

Just got home after picking up the car after work. Ended up paying $140 CAD for rear splash guards + installation (came stock with fronts only). No stock though so I have to return after they order them in. Brand new black/black v6 sh-awd elite

Quirky 1-2 shift where first gear is reving a bit higher than it should, kind of feels like it's trailing off for a split second before shifting to 2. Not neck jerking, a little subtle and can "live with it" if no permanent fix arises.

Will post pics after splash guards installed, too busy enjoying car atm

I bought the FR and RR splash guard for $78 each pair along with other accessories. Installation took ~5 - 10 mins per guard. No need to remove any tire at all.

Thanks. I might take it to the Honda and let them do it. They always service my Acura and let Acura do warrantys. Never thought about that.

Do the white ones match the paint pretty well or can you tell they're a bit different color? I've noticed that about the bellanova white where the splashguard white doesn't exactly match the paint on some cars. I know it's hard to match white on most white cars, so I may just have to deal with it if I get these.

The fronts were a piece of cake to install, but how did you install the rears without removing the wheels? Even my stubbiest screwdriver doesn't allow me to install the bracket easily, I feel like I'm about to drive in the screws at an off angle and not get the right fitment b/c of that.

Really too lazy to take the wheels off lol...

A short phillips screwdriver like the attached would do it. Hope that helps.

You're welcome! I've installed other splash guards over the years on my other cars and this screwdriver comes in really handy...especially you don't have to pay for those expensive installation at the dealerships. Enjoy your TLX! =)

Thanks for the advice guys, got the rears installed! Although not completely happy with the fit, it's not as flush in some places as i'd like or as flush as the fronts but you can't tell unless you look at it closely.

Unhappy maybe its me

So I am having a hard time using this forum, i considered myself tech savvy but every time I search for something i am better off going to google then using the forum's search. My question is, can i buy the 2016 Honda accord polyurethane control arm bushings and use them on my 2016 tlx awd? at least in the front but better if all over. I can't find hardly anything on these cars in the manner of upgrading like this and it could just be me. Hoping aftermarket upgrade prices will drop as options become available since they started a new generation that is a whole different animal.
