Acura should have done a TLX Super Bowl spot!

They had a chance to show off the TLX to the whole country.. and missed out. I understand the costs for an ad are high, but they need to do good advertising for it! The ad they released during the prototype reveal, or even a shortened version of it to save costs would have been perfect yesterday!

^acura has done a super bowl commercial for the NSX.
and remember Honda's ferris buellers super bowl commercial?

yeah, i dont think a super bowl commercial will help the sales of the prototype TLX...

It is meaningless to show a prototype vehicle to the whole country, because just like the NSX prototype, the latter was scrapped, suspended, restarted, and still won't make it to the market after multiple following Superbowl games.

It did not stop Hyundai from running a spot for the not yet released 2015 Genesis.

Yeah, but while neither has been officially released for sale, Acura's never even revealed the real TLX... just the "prototype". The 2015 Genesis was already revealed in production form.

Think the plan is for a May release so the add is logical & will be rerun. I believe the TLX is a bit further down the road.

^^ ...with record deficits and trillions in debts. I hope the economy will recover as we all want to see the world prosper and have opportunities. Seeing the world on the brinks of collapse in 2008 isn't a fun experience and much was driven by the same greed and mismanagement.....Off topics I know...my apologies.

But unlike the Acura, Hyundai HAS released AND shown the final production car. Hyundai is doing what it takes to get the word out there. Acura, well yea, they continue to post pics of the concept car on their FB page with the cars release just months away

they said a mid-year release for the TLX.. that's June/July.

ok but come on.. this prototype is pretty close to the production model! I saw the leaked spy shots.. and all they changed was the rear bumper, wheels and side-view mirrors. You really think most ad-viewers will remember what they showed in February vs. when it releases in June?

"pretty close" ?? You dont advertise a product and expect the customer to be okay with it when they get home and open the box because its "Pretty Close" Why keep advertising a Concept when the real thing should be out in a few months. This "concept" should have been Revealed LAST YEAR. Not 4-5 months before the actual car comes out.
Hyundai Advertised the Genesis. They showed the production version. They are a few months away from releasing the vehicle.. Why couldnt Acura have stepped up and done it?
You listed everything about the exterior that had flash and drew people into liking it. If you make a product (concept) and people really like it and say ohhhhhhhh i want that, then deliver a really toned down version of it people are going to say WTF happened to the car i saw. I know i along with many members here WOULD remember 5 months ago.

Personally if Hyundai can get the ride quality up to snuff they have a great car, HTRAC (going after Quattro, but more like SH-AWD) and the apps in their head unit look impressive, not to mention HUD and all the features. I expect a loaded Genesis with HTRAC and V6 to be around $50K so it will be right there with a loaded TLX. I love this market space, the competition drives such great cars in this price point.

Subaru just did this.

Hyped up the WRX and STI concept.
actual production model differs HUGELY.

and every one is upset.

Will the OP be upset if the concept changes to a toned down vanilla car?

Absolutely agreed.

Most 3G MDX owners love that front bumper with integrated strip LED lighting that was shown on the concept 3G MDX.

Not only does the toned-down front bumper disappoint many 3G MDX owners, but may also have put off lots of potential buyers who were in love with the concept bumper.

Agreed. The WRX/STI concept models were aggressive and cool. Made me raise my eyebrows.

Then I saw the production models. Bleh... The actual models are a cross between a Corolla and a cardboard box with a scoop. MAJOR disappointment IMHO. Got me thinking...WTH happened? What''s up with the tease??

If the actual production model of the TLX is no where near as good lucking or aggressive as the concept, I suspect there's going to be major disappointments and defectors to Audi.

Looks like the TLX Prototype (and RLX Hybrid and NSX) will make a (very) brief appearance in the new Acura commercial that will air during the Olympics and NCAA basketball. Acura- "Let the Race Begin." I liked it, which means everyone here will hate it... LOL

Again, Hey Acura, lets show 2 concept vehicles and 1 production vehicle and have people love the cars, only to get to the show room and say, hey where was the car i saw in that commercial and the dealer to say, that was a Concept.

They NEED to be showing the real thing, not Concept (unless the 2 are identical).

My company spends a hell of a lot of money with the NFL, and I have to tell you sometimes that I wonder if we're not doing the NFL more good than the NFL are doing us!

You have to be a big company with money to throw away on making a point about something. If you have the money and you want to touch the soul of the average football fan...sure, go ahead.

But if you're really trying to sell something, then the impact of the NFL and Super Bowl is anecdotal at best. Remember that Honda's not a very big company when compared to General Motors and Toyota. We get better results with hockey, baseball and basketball than we've got out of football the past few years.

But that's just one dumb old man's and one stupid old company's point of view, of course.

Advertising companies spend a lot of time telling you everything that you are getting out of your investment with them...but to be honest I've decided over the years that all the figures they throw at you are manufactured by suspicious entities with vested interests.

Apocryphal and anecdotal at the best.

And outright disingenuous, self serving and dishonest at the worst.

Your best marketing is conducted by your own best employees, how they represent you to the general public.

Honda/Acura is no small company though. They can afford much better advertising Or should i say the amount they spend on advertising could be used far better.

People who really love cars probably won't be 'confused' by the 1 Production, 1 Prototype and 1 Concept shown. IMO, it represents what is planned for the next three product releases for the brand.

They have a big gap from Genesis to Equus, and the V8 R-Spec version I bet gets over $50K.

That's why the Acura vehicles in that commercial are in black color and are shown racing along during the nighttime, such that it is difficult, if possible, to spot any meaningful exterior styling details from both the front and the back of the concept vehicles.
