Acura - Let The Race Begin commercial

Summer is Coming
It made me laugh.... and I never took it as anything other than comedy. So I'll remember it. Kind of like the concept of 'there is no such thing as bad publicity.' But these were only internet spots so I don't think they got a lot of exposure.

Hmmm.... not sure about this one either.
The RLX is supposed to the flagship Acura model that showcases luxury, comfort, and performance.
The above rugged pic suggests neither.
IMHO the WRX or F150 would be more appropriate in the above scenario.
I'll reserve final judgement before I see the entire commercial, but my initial thoughts are WTH is Acura's marketing dept thinking (again) ???

They had to film the RLX on a mud track so that when they edited the horse to RLX transition it looked a bit more 'natural' and not so fake looking.
The RLX was the only actual, driving/ real car in the commercial. NSX and TLX were CGI's.

That was the behind scenes of the filming for the commercial posted. I think it's ok to sacrifice one RLX (at most I would think it just got full of mud clumps).

For a moment, I was thinking, what the heck? I retract my prior negative statement on Acura's marketing department.

There is one other thing I dislike that is more subliminal but I consider it to be a mistake. That is the "Acura" horse appearing well behind and much later than the others in the race that has clearly been going on for a while. It is really denigrating to current Acura owners and is like Acura saying "yeah--we screwed up, we weren't offering any serious offerings these past several years to be considered in the same class as these other vehicles--but watch out now". Strikes me as a put-down to all current owners.

Well, I don't want to be accused of trying to tell you what to feel, but I think it's likely that you are reading more into that commercial that is actually there. Obviously, as a brand, they need to continually improve and (generally) this means obsoleting what went before. Consider this, from a "sporting perspective" the first generation RDX was a superior product, the current model outsells it 4 to 1 but is nowhere near as dynamically engaging. What if something similar happened to the TLX?

Great commercial if you love horses! The slickest commercials I have seen lately are ones by Jaguar for the new F-type and before that they have one with several of their high performance models zipping back and forth around each other (theme was something like "want to play?").
When I see a commercial about a car, particularly one that is trying to reinvent itself, I find it more effective to see more scenes of the car (rather than 50 seconds of horses and 10 seconds of cut-shots to cars).
Just sayin'

The ad looked even better on NBC today. Nice job, and I'm sure will see quite better ones soon!
