The more I look at the new 10G Accord, the more I love the 9G Accord. That car was simply, perfection in looks and size.

The new Accord is a disaster to my eyes. Honda took a gamble here since the new Civic got good reviews they just made a bigger version hoping that success will carry over. 9G was a very good looking sedan. Why they just didn't improve on it is beyond me.

I don't know man, the 9G pre-MMC was a handsome, but conservative looking sedan, with the back end very similar to the previous gen Hyundai Genesis. The facelifted Accord looks better everywhere except for that grille IMO. I thought the new Accord looks nicer and more upscale, but its the tail lights that are disappointing.

Maybe not a TLX killer, but in my opinion a valid alternative. If not in looks, then certainly in tech. There once was a time when Acura tech led the way for Honda, but in the last two Accord iterations (and to an extent, even the latest CRV), it looks like Honda has wrested that mantle away from Acura. I hold out high hopes that Acura is on the path to retake that mantle with the next iteration of the TLX. The Accord looks pretty interesting to me right now though...

Everyone is thinking this is the worst thing ever and blah blah blah, but I'm sorry, the 8G Accord sedan was a fat style less walrus, the 7G Accord sedan was pretty bad also with those awkward looking tail lights and the monster truck ride height didn't help any of its causes ( though overall the MMC was a modest styling improvement), the 6G accord- I remember standing in the highschool parking lot when I saw a teacher pulling up and wondering if Honda could have possibly designed a more boring looking car, etc.

The 10G Accord fits its M.O. like a glove. If anything, it was the 9G Accord that was out to lunch for actually looking good.

The car would instantly look better if they brought the leading edge of the hood right up to the top of the chrome surround of the grill. The extra seam just makes it look less streamlined. It's like an obese person wearing horizontal stripes, Design 101.

Wasn't a huge fan of the Civic when it first came out either with all that chrome up front. It has grown on me over time, especially with the blacked out versions. I have a feeling the same may be true for this Accord, but I think its an MMC away from being something I would consider good looking like the 9G was.

As usual none of the geniuses has anything good to say. And as usual the 10th gen Accord will do what its predecessors have done every year for 40 years, which is be among the best selling, most reliable cars on the planet. Just like the, what, 'fat style less (sic) walrus' 8th gen? I have one of those with 120k miles, I'll compare maintenance costs with anyone and on a good straight or winding road, leave you breathing the dust of its walrus ass.

I completely agree, and I think this is a problem for Acura. The "premium" brand should lead the way, or at least be close behind for model introductions, and yet the base TLX is being leap-frogged by the 10G Accord, and the ILX is still rumbling along on the 9G Civic platform when the 10G Civic has been on the road for well over a year.

At least the TLX has the V6/AWD option which, along with its additional luxury, creates a substantial gap above the Accord. The ILX has the 8DCT and presumably more luxury and tech than the Civic, but I seriously doubt it's anywhere close to the Civic Si as a driver's car. Heck, the 10G Civic platform is so good that even the lesser variants are probably better driver's cars than the ILX.

I would normally agree, but the market has changed a lot in the last 10 years. I don't think living on maintenance costs, etc is enough in a shrinking sedan market. Not that Toyota or Honda mind, since sales of the much more profitable CUV's is on the rise.

No need to get butthurt. The 8G Accord was the largest accord ever sold. First Accord to ever make it into the "large car" segment. It was a behemoth. And it's styling was very forgettable. No one said it's a bad car though. As you pointed out, they still sold a ton of them.
But if you want to compare maintenance costs, besides for air filters and oil changes, my 2012 (bought in 2011) Turbo Sonata has been pretty flawless. I had the turbo oil feed line go on it, and that's it in terms of repairs in 5.5 years. $150US later and I was good to go. It would've been cheaper too, but I thought the oil leak was something completely different. Had I known it was the feed line, I would've done it myself and saved $60 more.

I used to think it was the 5th generation, but this one takes the cake!

Honestly, I was disappointed to see Accord get butchered... this comment is based on pictures; still, need to see it in person...
It technically inherited idea from BMW Gran Coupe 4 series, and it will STAY WAY BEHIND... engines options and no V6 - flat out stupid wrong move, like Acura, has made some in the recent past (TL > TSX = TLX)... btw only thing in TLX that reminds me of TL - is just that... two letters T and L...
Everything else is over glorified TSX with 45k price tag... so dumb

Nuh-uh. 4G Accord was the best-looking sedan, IMO. Nothing beat that greenhouse, visibility was easy from all directions....just like the NSX.

The 4G was a disappointment in style coming from the sportier looking 3G. It's the only version of the Accord I never cared to own.

No matter how good the Aspec is, dealers are rightfully worried. When they need to compare a 18 TLX to a 17 Accord to prove how much better it is, well they have even less chance to lure people with the new Accord across the street.
Blame Acura for being so slow to react, and dealers must ask HQ for more cash to keep them alive. Feel a bit bad for the employees.

Can you imagine what would happen to TLX sales if Honda decided to offer AWD on Accord? Even is Accord's AWD was not to be as advanced as TLX, the Accord would pretty much put a nail in the coffin on Acura's sedan lineup.

People were buying 4cyl TLX at a pricepoint at which they could have bought Accord V6. For 2018 accords, SHAWD and V6 will be differentiators for TLX. And 8dct will help sell 4cyl vs CVT of 1.5L Turbo accords. But unless and until acura has its own platform and engine, they will be cross shopped against hondas. This is more a problem with sedans, i dont think RDX/MDX are having same level of crossshopping issue against CRV/PILOT.

While the Accord is appealing the real model is the touring that really will steal people, but Honda has always limited availability of the touring model, I remembered when I looked for one they were rare, each dealer gets very few each month.

Interesting, was thinking the same. Either to protect family, or to limit loses if demand is not high (would surprise me though). I wonder if Nissan/Toyota use the same strategy regarding the Maxima/Camry. If not, that just proves how close Honda/Acura products really are to consumers.
