2019 9 Speed Update

Do you guys think the they will apply the same transmission update to all the previous 9 speeds? MDX looks like its getting a new program and the Honda Pilot as well.

"The nine-speed automatic transmission has also been reprogrammed in the 2019 MDX to provide smoother, more linear acceleration feel during normal driving conditions by prioritizing second-gear starts. However, during higher-demand situations like full-throttle acceleration, certain uphill and towing situations, and when the Sport mode is selected, the transmission is programmed to prioritize first-gear starts for maximum acceleration and pulling power."

If there's mechanical changes to the ZF9, probably not. Will Acura issue this update retroactively if it's only software? Doubtful.

I’m hoping they do a good job on the type s, my lease is up right around the time for the release. I‘m going to ask my dealer for a 19 Mdx to drive and see how much more different it is from my Aspec.

Based on my experience in the RLX, Acura will make no attempt to retroactively provide a software solution to the transmission issues.

15/16 were apsolute crap. They did improve 17 onwards. My guess is that something mechanical was done to improve the latter. Major set back is the dog clutches in the 9 speed. I don't care what software updates they release it will always be held back because of it. I have an 18 now and it's actually not that bad. It has its moments but you have to adjust your habits accordingly. If they only put the tranny that RLX has this car would be so much better. No car is perfect though.
