I am nervous about seeing the FMC TLX after seeing the new Accord. I hope they don't go fastback with the TLX and if the engine choices are going to be four cylinders only, I hope the top dog isn't going to be the neutered 2.0T found in the Accord, though I wouldn't mind seeing the CTR powertrain. But I digress.....

The CTR powertrain wouldn't be in the TLX. The CTR engine doesn't have a secondary balancer and has noticeable turbo lag. The engine is good for a Type R, but for a luxury sedan, it has to be smoother with better low end response.

I've had my eye on the A-Spec since I saw the reveal and picked up my Bellanova White/Ebony AWD today. Acura did an amazing job with this car!

You wouldn't be okay with a 300 hp 2.0T?

Hell no, turbo all the way compared to NA V6. The A4 proved it can be extremely successful.
Now if a V6 turbo, I'll take 2 please!!!

Some folks prefer a NA 290hp V6 over a 300hp I4 because of:
  • Instant throttle response
  • No turbo lag whatsoever (minimum lag still has lag)
  • Better NVH characteristics
  • Inherently smoother
  • V6 sounds better

Acura charges $290 for one of their shitty batteries, and is reluctent to change it even if they know it sucks (see stop start issue in problems section). I still don't get the expensive to fix part, Acura mechanics also charge an arm and a leg when stuff happens. As if free in Acura land, takes time just to use warranty. And that is expensive at my salary rate....

I can tell you guys from experience...torque down low is much more rewarding to drive around town.

What the hell does that have to do with 2.0Ts in Acuras? Completely different cars.

My previous 3 vehicles before the TLX were all FI engines, and I definitely missing the 'stomp it and wheeeeeeeeeeeee' thrill you get with the low end torque. The V6 is smooth and sounds great, but I would prefer a 2.0T. A FI six would be even better like I had on my X3.

Peak torque of 370 flbs at 1400rpm is really, really APPEALING. Seriously I think the big thing always missed in my car has 5 more horsepower than yours is mine has 100+ more ft lbs at sub 2000 rpm than yours. Torque is what gets you off the line & makes around town driving very easy.

Horsepower matters in the 1/4 mile but its torque in a quick sprint & any low speed driving situation like city driving. Turbo-lag is pretty much dead. It has enough spears in it that N/A instant throttle response is a non-event in head to head driving with similarly rated N/A vs T engines.

Definitely love the low end torque in my CTR, but also gotta admit that my S2k's throttle response is much more instant even at just 2500rpm - doesn't matter that it only makes like 150lbft at like 7500rpm.

Think its all how the waste gates are tuned. The 440 has a very slight lag off the line if I just put my foot to the floor. Will still knock down low 4 seconds to 60. Light power braking will light up the tires so I will go with a little lag & solid traction. The car also has launch control which I can't get access to until 1200 miles is run off. Getting close & have a 200 mile run on Friday. Maybe a test late next week.

2000 RPM & up no lag because the turbos are spinning (Full torque is claimed @ 1350) & the electric waste gates hit right now. The older cars like my 335is N54 had slower non-electric waste gates than the new B58 engine.

Interesting thing to me, in Comfort Mode the car is running a 1990 RPM @ 85MPH. Have never seen that before.

Yea with a 3.0L engine as the basis, there's already abundance of torque available right off the bat versus something like a 1.5T or 2.0T.

Even from driving my friend's 2012 335i 8AT, its turbo lag is much less noticeable compared to something like my friend's Audi S3 2.0T. I could just imagine the new B58 is that much better, and again, with the extra displacement to play with.

I see MGP online as caliper covers? Is it a caliper or a cover over the existing caliper?

Was that the cost for all 4? I like them a lot. It's something I would definitely do if I had the Aspec.

I saw them in Amazon for $199

They do make the brake look bigger which seems to be what most of the population here has been asking for. Most of the reviews on the car by different parties indicate that the braking performance is pretty good (if i recall correctly). At least I have not read/heard anyone completely bash the braking performance. So adding this caliper cover would probably satisfy the itch of some of us for "beefier brakes".

I really want the blue. That color stands out although Black would suffice. The dealer is trying, not really the right time for me. I see a lot of white in here though

Love the look of the red Acura caliper covers.....should be standard, or at least an option on the ASpec

Back a few BMW's ago bought a set for the 335is which also had ugly calipers. Had very open wheels & wanted the calipers to disappear so I sprayed the covers flat black. Nice product made of a decent grade alloy & easy to install.

Never had any issues with braking performance. One thing I did notice on one of the current TLX writeups was a case where the brakes went away quickly in the pure stock mode doing test laps.

Think its just a case of the car not being designed for that type of running & under all street conditions they should be good to go covers or no covers..

I tried to hold out for a Still Midnight Blue with the Red interior, but no cars with those specs were near me or in transit. But, I did pick up a Still Midnight Blue with Black interior today. I am still getting accustomed to the car; it's nothing like knowing your car backward and forwards versus trying to learn all the fun stuff (like putting the car in accessory mode or trying to remember there's no gear shifter lol or canceling navigation directions or realizing the center pocket is too small for iPhone and the center console is optimal, but there's no USB connection ). There are also little creature comforts from my m235i that I miss already lol. Things like the little cubby below the stirring wheel to store things, the larger door cubby that could hold water bottles, the red seats (le sigh); then there's the sheer power, whew could that car go with 0 effort! However, I do not regret the TLX by any means. Leaving the m235i after three years feels like a mutual breakup, and now I am dating and learning someone new which is exciting and a little nerve wrecking lol. The TLX looks amazing and handles way better than I expected (short test drives do not tell the complete story). Sports mode adds weight to the steering that I've grown accustomed in the Bimmer. Apple CarPlay is seamless, and I enjoy having four doors again lol. The seats are just the right amount of comfort and sportiness. I also managed to convince another BMW owner at the dealership to consider the TLX versus the ILX (I should've asked for more money off my purchase for instantly advertising and selling for Acura, lol)

Trying to figure it all out...
