Congrats on the new car, looks very nice. I like the red, would have bought my new car in red if they had that color. Its a lot like our CX-5's red.

Very nice looking car. Acura finally has my attention after many years of no interest Since my 2007 Type S 6mt. I'm not in the market for a new car, but I could see this having potential of being a consideration. What I don't like is the fact that you can't get the advance package with the aspec. What Acura really needs to do is bring back the Type S with an awd and maybe 330ish HP. I'm sure it's fun to drive though.

[QUOTE=MTD;16032710]Picked up mine last night. Very impressed so far. As a former 15 TLX owner, this new one is light years better. Got about $2500k of the MSRP and a least rate of 0.9%, so its a ctually a few bucks cheaper then the RDX I returned.
......that looks sweet!!! I'm definitely a lil jelly on that Aspec

Said it before, this certainly isn't like any other TL I've driven before. I was reminded of my favorite TL up until this point...an '05. That one, as nice as it was, had torque steer galore. Not the worst I've experienced, but you were always mindful of it. TLX has NONE of that. It handles very neutral. Steering is nicely weighted (Sport and Sport+). LOVE the steering wheel. It feels good in your hands and has all the controls you need fall right were you need them to.

Acceleration......not an S4 or a 340i, but certainly robust. Love the sounds the engine makes. Transmission shifts up and down when you want it to. It's quick and smooth, with no hunting around. Can't ask for more than that. Throttle response is excellent and predictable.

Brakes are predictable, strong and linear.

Suspension is firm yet supple. SH AWD gives confidence to take any corner at any speed.

The seats are some of the most comfortable I've ever experienced. Leather (red) is soft and supple...feels expensive.

Car Play is quick and very easy to use. Love the center knob to use it. Very well thought out.

Red light piping throughout is a cool touch.

ELS is still the best OEM stereo on the market.

LED head lights, fog lights and rear light pipes (smoked) are very good, functional and just plain cool.

Paint, materials (fee expensive and operate with a quality feel), and build are the best I've seen.

Demerits....

-yeah...the nav graphics could use an update. The Garmin interface the Accord has would have been nice. But, not a deal breaker. NAV does what it's supposed to do and does it reliably
-still getting used to the "button" transmission. What was wrong with the old gear lever?
-while the dash is soft touch, there is a large swath of it on the passenger side. Maybe add a little "pizzaz" over there?

I'm nit picking now, but I don't know if I could come up with much more.

For the record, I've owned an S4 (previous gen), a 335i, 2 previous Acuras ('05 and '10 TLs), Cadillac CTS (GM lost in arbitration and had to pay me to come get their car back).

$45K MSRP (not what I paid) for this car....you could spend a whole lot more money and do a whole lot worse with your selection.
Couldn't have summarized it better. I just picked mine up yesterday and man its night and day compared to the 2015 TLX I previously owned. Loving this car!!!

When I looked at the car it did appear the paint was more premium. I asked the salesperson about it and he said he didn't believe it had changed. To me it felt and appeared to be "harder" than my on my 2015. Maybe it's simply more of it in a "thicker" sort of way. I had a 2002 TL and the paint was absolutely luxurious. The paint on my 2015 is cheap in comparison.

I don't know if I am more surprised that paint can be luxurious or that the salesman didn't jump on that assumption and agree with you.

All three. Wirh my 2002 you could see the quality in the paint. When I got a chip it looked like a chip and not a rub as it does in my 2015. The paint in the 2015 in no way appears to be as good as the paints used by Lexus. The 2018 TLX paints appear to be an improvement over 2015-2017.

The transmission is way better. I hated my 15' transmission, it was horrible. Shifting is very smooth and more responsive!

My 15s tranny didnt have the clunky 2-3 like many had. My biggest gripe was just how slow it shifted, up and down and it never seemed to be in the right gear for the situation and/or way below the powerband.

My 18 has none of that. The shifts are crisp and smooth and in Sport mode it holds gears much better. 80-90kmh its usually in 6-7.

I wish I had a car in a show room calling my name. 10 days into the introduction and we have only one SHAWD Aspec in all of Southern Cali. Go figure.

The dealership I go to had 3 red A-Specs come in (2 Elite V6, 1 Tech 4-cylinder), 2 black A-Specs (both Elite V6), and 2 white ones (1 Elite V6, 1 Tech 4-cylinder). They've sold 1 red Elite A-Spec V6, 1 white V6, and 1 black V6. I'm holding off on getting this red V6 Elite A-Spec until I can confirm an order of a blue one (which they've now told me will likely commence on June 13th).

Going today to look at the new TLX. Own 2001 TL with 292K miles and '13 TL, both bought new. However leaning toward buying '18 Audi S5 sportback. Gorgeous car and gobs of power. The TLX will need to impress the crap out of me to stick with the brand.

will be very curious to hear your review of the S5. Stunning car especially with the high back sport bucket seats in red. But the Audi S5 is a few price points higher than the Acura. My sister has a factory ordered 2015 A3 Prestige 2.0 with the sports suspension and sports seats. Great looking and great engaging car to drive. I get the car serviced for her and even personally detail it for her. Some typical german car gremlins that can be very frustrating and disappointing. I have 94k miles on my 2012 RL and spend more time taking her car back to Audi with just 15k miles on her A3 Prestige. But I still love driving her Audi. And it is so damn sharp looking. Monsoon Grey with Tobacco leather seats.

There in is the issue with going with Audi, reliability. Was hoping the newer models are up to the standards of Acura/Lexus in reliability but maybe not quite yet. I have a '15 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cab that I absolutely love and have had zero issues thus far. So I know the Germans can build a reliable product, but maybe only Porsche can:-)

Both my R8s have been very reliable. The V10 only ever had one issue which was a failed high pressure fuel pump, replaced under warranty. The V8 didn't have a single problem for 50,000+ km. I think Audi has made some significant strides in the area of reliability over the past decade. Hopefully that's true across the product range.

if at all possible, don't just look at it. Take one for a test drive. Make sure you put it in Sport or Sport+, and you'll enjoy the smoothness of the power delivery and the nearly seamless gear changes. It's so much better than both my 2015 TLXs.

The JD Power and Consumer Reports data do show Audi has made great strides, but somehow it seems Porsche is in a class by themselves for the VAG group and rivals Lexus for reliability. Not sure if the big difference is in the limited production, more careful engineering, or more stringent supplier quality specs and standards. Or perhaps all of them. My parents purchased new a MB 2015 S550 and a 2014 MB CLS550 3 years ago. The CLS was replaced under a "negotiated buyback" after many repeat dealer visits due to faulty emissions (constant "CEL" warning lights). The replacement CLS has been fine. My mother's S550 has had a few issues in less than 10k miles so far including the V8 that shakes noticeably at idle (ridiculous for a flagship car that stickered at $106k). MB did do some kind of software update, but the V8 still has some shake (my RL and my sister's A3 2.0 idle much smoother). The "secondary" battery that powers most of the S550's safety sensors went dead in less than a year. Somehow the factory never installed the air duct to the rear seat vents (same issue on Uncle's Bentley ironically). Her 2008 LS460LS was virtually without issue over the 7 years she owned it and that Lexus V8 is pure silky smooth unlike the Merc.
I have an Audi dealer in walking distance to my home. Just got back from a test run in loaded up S5 (base model "Premium Plus", not the Prestige). $65k sticker, I think it had almost every option sans the Prestige package. White Diamond with Magna Red sport diamond quilted Napa Leather buckets. Virtual cockpit very nice. Did get to drive it short distance on 395 heading south out of DC for a short distance. I liked it, but not thrilled. A few months back I got to drive a new loaded S3 further out on backroads in Va. The S3 immediately had me hooked on its' pure visceral feel (in Dynamic mode). I did get to drive some distance and had the opportunity to really push the S3. I was extremely impressed. To be fair on the S5, it was a short drive and a fair amount of local traffic to dart around. The S5 is very sharp in the right colors.
The Acura TLX is 2 classes and 2 price points below the Audi to be fair and a $20k price difference. And for $65k the Audi only offers a manual (not electric) adjustable steering wheel and no cooled/ventilated seat available with the beautiful and supremely comfortable Sport diamond quilted Napa leather seats.

Having had a couple of Audis, I agree that their reliability has improved. Where they have "gotchas" are the costs associated with "routine" maintenance. It's really high. Then again, same can be said for Mercedes or BMW (out of the warranty period). I don't believe Mercedes is built or engineered any better than an Acura, either. Yeah....they may have some unique build and engineering that they've done. Wouldn't call it necessarily better, though.

I've never owned a Porsche. But, talking to those who did and still do, they concur that they are very robust in their engineering and their build. None of them have had any issues with their cars.

Porsche is very reliable but based on my daughters experience maintenance is not cheap. Its on case of you get what you pay for an phenomenal driving. experience. Expect the company figures if you can afford the car you can afford the maintenance.

Would be interesting some day to check maintenance prices as a percentage of purchase price to see if there is some kind of ratio.

For $850 you get full maintenance covered through the 45,000 mile service. I had a 2015 A7 that admittedly I only put 8,500 miles on. I now have a 2016 with 26,000 miles. No problems with either of them.
