2018 RLX Pictures released...Acura cannibalism?
2018 Acura RLX Arrives with New Diamond Pentagon Grille | Automobile Magazine
With TLX sales lower last month than around same time last year and slow deliveries of TLX A-specs....do you think the release of the RLX will affect the TLX numbers even more?
I (as future TLX buyer) am happy the TLX is not moving as fast as expected: 1)makes the car more "exclusive" 2)hopefully lower prices will make an appearance .
What do you guys think? Are we talking about two completely different demographics here? or will TLX buyers consider the RLX now that the design is released and all details will be mentioned in a few days

So it's ok for the RLX to get a 10sp, MDX to get a hybrid system, but way too complicated and time constrained to change the TLX mechanically. Looks are nice, but I want substance lol

Agreed. The TLX is Acura's bread and butter sedan, but that's not really saying much. If anything, all the meaningful updates should be going into the TLX as the North American market continues it's love affair with crossovers.

My guess for those big headlights are due to the constraint. If you look at the 2014 RLX, the headlights are pretty big too. I'm guessing making big changes would cost way more as structural points will need to be changed and more engineering is involved.
I think Acura put the 10AT in the RLX because there probably wouldn't be any contract issue. Specifically, the 9AT in the TLX is from ZF. I'd think Acura must o use that tranny based on their contract. The 6AT in the RLX is older, and it's a Honda unit.

Gotta say.. that front lower grille looks like a small car is being eaten by a bigger car. That or a really thin droopy handlebar mustache haha
But hey 377 combined HP in a SHSHAWD! YAY Now put it in a MDX.
Oh and it's STILL the old infotainment system. Good grief.

Agree. Looks good to me. I like the new leather.
Need more details. I hope they make SH-AWD standard too.

Like the refreshed non Aspec TLX, I don't like the chrome add-on's. My god, update the navi for heaven's sake.

The TLX may get by for having old graphics. But a 60k+ sedan (more like 75k+ in Canada) to have the same system is just plan stupid. I think the low volume sales will definitely continue even if less trims are available.

I thought the precision cockpit concept would appear in production form on the RLX refresh. That leaves the 2nd gen TLX as the possible 1st to get it. So much for the RLX being a flagship.

I didn't think this would happen, but I am getting impatient with waiting for any Acura model to get a full refresh.

I like it - looks better (at least with the "perfect lighting" and photoshopped shots) - a little less bland than the current iteration.

I find it pretty attractive. Interior looks better than most of its competitors.

Well, since my momma always told me if I didn't have anything nice to say, I shouldn't say anything, I'll just leave it at this:
At least the new RLX is distinguishable from the ILX at a distance now.

Yeah, and when is the ILX getting an update. Two cars that really need some help.

I also don't like the directly Acura took for the last 3, 4 years but I'd give them more time. Changes are coming as we see.

Well they did it with the NSX and that wasn't cheap. Seating on your ass doesn't help, waiting for things to magically happen. Usually top down for tech changes in luxury cars.

For some reason I thought this was the FMC not MMC. If it was FMC, yes, I'd expect them to re-engineer the interior of their flagship regardless of low volume. Is that realistic given Acura's past, no, but I'd expect it if they want to be competitive.

1000000% agree with you. You'd think in an age where nobody (even cadillac and lincoln) is using chrome that Acura would get the memo. But nope. Instead we get slapped on chrome mustaches on the front and rear. Also those wheels are still ugly AF, they remind me of another OEM wheel but I can't quite put my finger on it, I think it's some Hyundai or BMW older model. That infotainment setup is just pathetic.
I'm just wondering something here guys, why have they not thought to give the standard RLX SH-AWD yet? It's like a GLARING ommision. Another car that desperately needs AWD is the ILX as well. So yup typical Acura.....let's be 10 years behind and keep trying to shine shit.

It's not the looking alike that is the problem, it is the lack of presence that is the problem. When you stand beside or look at a 7 series or S class or A8 you can EASILY tell they are the top dog car. I have seen the RLX on the road NUMEROUS times and nearly every single time I thought it was a TLX. Now I look at the fogs to check if it's a TLX or RLX because the RLX has those yellow fog strips or I check out the tail lights. But that is besides the point really, I should be able to tell the RLX ASAP like I can with the 7 series and S class.

We from the RLX section like the look of the new RLX, but are also awaiting the FMC. As a group of real customers willing to spend $50-60k on a car, we are trying to promote to Acura the idea of the Precision Concept as the next RLX. I hope they'll listen to us.
I'm pretty sure the 2018 RLX will get the same infotainment system as the 2018 TLX. It wouldn't make sense otherwise. I'd also like to see this Traffic Jam Assist at work. I'm not in one of these mostly because of timing.
To continue the discussion and read what actual RLX customers (of which I was one until two months ago) think, go to this thread...

Great looking car. If this car was $10K cheaper, I am sure it will sell like hot cakes. lol.
I am impressed by Acura's new vision. I believe them now when they say they are changing their strategy and soon we will see some good changes. i am sure next will be new infotainment system, CDX and different power trains like Hybrid and Turbo.

Speaking about being hard on them, I'm not the only one. Sales have never recovered from their glory days. I REALLY want them to try harder and succeed, but always get disappointed when they reveal something.
In the meantime we have other companies going all out to help their users, and not just with tech in the cars lol:

Honda/Acura must have excess chrome as they are putting them where they can. Good for the wrapping business I guess.

Chrome on the side skirts looks ok. Don't care for it around the fogs and tailpipes. Chrome are the new VTEC stickers?
