Here's the procedure for one of the Mercedes (copied from one of their forums):
"According to the manual for the 2013 GLK 250 BlueTEC there is a requirement to set the car in permanent neutral when going through a tow car wash. They state to remove the Keyless Go if necessary and switch the car on using the Smartkey. Then place it into neutral and make sure the parking brake is off. Then switch off the ignition but LEAVE THE SMARTKEY IN THE IGNITION SLOT.
Is the car wash really going to know this unless you are standing over them?"
It has a push button type transmission.

Thanks EE4Life. I was just complaining about the voice address input for my MDX to one of the salesmen. I'm glad it will be addressed with this update.

I agree completely. The procedure is a bit to complicated and the duration is to short; IMHO 20 minutes would have been better. If I did elected to use the local car detail place, I'd likely have to get the manager to tell them in Spanish so all the details got communicated. They're very friendly guys but direct communication can be challenging for some of them.
My thought for the Winter when I'm to busy to do it myself, is to just pony up and get my detailer to do it or pay the extra $$ for the hand wash (which also has the possibility to go wrong) rather than send it through the touch-free automation they use.

The simplest way to prevent the car from automatically shifting from N to P when you exit the vehicle is to do up the seatbelt behind you. Tell the attendant not to undo the seatbelt. The car will stay in N.

The "feature" is a PIA. Seems pretty common with the ZF style transmissions.

Not a problem for my 2.4, but I asked the car wash supervisor about it and he said, "Huh?" No clue. The majority of V6 owners aren't enthusiasts and will have no clue about car wash mode. Acura needs to make this go away.
Where I go, the car is in neutral with the engine running when it goes through, so all the guy at the end of the line has to do is put it in gear and drive to the wipe-down area.

This was one of the first items mentioned by my salesperson when I took delivery of the car. Another reason owners need to spend time with the manual after purchasing the car.

It does not affect me either because I do not use that type of car wash. Maybe it is time for a poll on what of method car wash do people use. In my area it would less than 5% that use the driverless kind.

Complicated, yes (but not after doing it a few times). Dangerous, I don't think so. It would take a lot of "successful" lawsuits to make a difference, and I think this is unlikely.

I know of one automated, very busy car wash in Los Angeles County that is constantly stopping while cars are going through the line. Wait till a TLX breaks the 15 minute rule in that facility.

For the poll: "My" local car wash, driverless, does a great job, including vacuum, hand-wipe, interior wipe-down, inside window wipe-down, and tires for $10.99 plus cash tip. This is in the Dallas Fort Worth area. To me, it's worth it.

I live in the DFW area and also use a driverless car wash, although I pay $15 and it is worth it to me also. I will wash it myself every now and then to really get my car detailed, but only when the outside temperature is comfortable!

My old '01 TL, which was pretty well trashed out by my son, was ready to go at 185K miles, so we took it to this car wash before going to CarMax for an appraisal. Like, whoa, who's car is this and why are we selling it? The car looked terrific inside and out, and $14 on a car wash got us more money on the trade, I'm sure. They tell me it was sold as-is, no further detailing, in less than two hours. We were happy at the price and our sales guy was happy for the quick sale.

From how I read it, it sounds to me that Honda is clarifying what it will and will not pay for if there is an issue with the TPMS sensor and not an actual widespread issue with the system itself.

I was very impressed.
So the time comes to take it in and the guy drives it in, opens the door, and then apparently says screw it and gets back in the car and rides it through himself. When he got out of the car I thanked him and gave him a big hug and smile, and he gave me a huge smile back. That's the kind of folks you want to work with.
