Hello,
2014 MDX AWD, 125,000 miles. Original owner. The car has developed a "clack" (like a click, but just a little different) noise when shifting into Drive and also Reverse. On the lift if I rotate either front tire back and forth the noise is coming from the dead center of where the axles enter the transmission. It's not coming from the transfer case. I've done regular drain and fills of fluid always with Honda fluid. There is the usual metal sludge paste on the drain plug magnet, and silver flakes in the fluid, but no metal pieces or small chunks. I'm guessing this is just an age/mileage thing where some lash has developed in the gears used by the drive shafts connection. But its pronounced enough now that I think it might be a problem. Has anyone experienced the same thing?
Thanks in advance.

So ever since I bought 2018 sport hybrid in 11/2025, I had emissions system check engine light on. Literally 2 weeks after purchase. Autonation reset it 2 times during that time while under their 3 month warranty. First time gave me a bogus answer of the electronic dampener possibly cussed it to throw the code. Second time 2k miles later, they confirmed needing cat replacement only to say used car warranty didn’t cover emissions!!

so with the problem reset and without automation Honda warranty, I had to brave it out and drive another 2k miles to see if my emissions code would pop back out. Acura dealership said they wouldn’t be able to diagnose it without an engine code… the catch is there is an 8yr 80k mile extended emissions warranty for all cars under the clean air act covering cats and ecu, obd. With the car being 2018 and purchase date of 5/5, I had till 5/5/2026 to make the claim.

thankfully the check engine code came on 2 weeks ago hitting about another 2k miles in driving and this time I got both p0430 and p0420 which meant both cats are failing. Brought the car into niello acura here in Roseville, California and th servicer pulled up my car info and told me what I wanted to hear; the cats should be covered under the 8/80k warranty! The car is still at dealership and awaiting for the work to be finished tomorrow and for pick up.

with the cats replaced, I am highly considering buying the United car care warranty from niello Acura to cover the rest of the car for a few years. It is still 36k miles and just about 8 yrs old but the hybrid system makes me wary of potential large bills. Btw, the UCC warranty wouldn’t have covered for emissions either.

Hope this information helps someone out!
