Excelerate Performance : The Shop Thread

Hey Acurazine

As many of you may know we have an online store, but many don't know we actually have a full service shop too!

Rather then making a new thread every time we install an exhaust or have something cool to show you guys, it seemed like a good idea to make a universal one.

In addition to projects we're working on, if you guys have any questions about the shop, or how we do it, feel free to leave them here!

Don't forget to check out the online store for all your performance needs!

The front of our shop as seen off Sycamore Rd, Branford Connecticut

This is unit 1 of our two unit shop.
Unit 1 is where the majority of our work is done, and where the majority of our time is spent!
When your car comes to us chances are it's going to get some air time on one of our 7 lifts. (6 of which are in unit 1)
We offer a comprehensive set of services including diagnosis, repair, scheduled maintenance, regular service, and high performance upgrades!

Here's another view of unit 1; you can see another lift that was hiding around the corner.

This is our 2nd unit. Here is where we use our arsenal of Hunter tools to keep you driving straight. This is where we hide the secret 7th lift,
Maybe even the 8th lift if you count the HawkEye Alignment Rack!

This is another view of the second unit.
We also use the second unit to flash software (you can see a long line of Volkswagen/Audi in for APR software), and store the cars at night.

Here's our shop foreman Jamie road force testing a set of HREs and their freshly mounted Continental Tires.

Feel free to stop by anytime, we're here Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm!

Kraftwerks S2000 Install

This tastefully modified Honda S2000 belonging to one of our local customers came in recently, and he was looking to take it to the next level.

Since it can be hard to squeeze power out of a naturally aspirated build the Kraftwerks supercharger kit seemed like the obvious answer to him!

Needless to say we got it on order, and got him on the calendar for install. Here's some pictures:

The car is a has a F22C1 with 40,000 miles, and here you can see it for the last time without without forced induction.

It was nice of Honda to leave so much room here for things like this. Boost is better after all, right?

Installing the Kraftwerks front mount intercooler (27 x 12 x 3 Inch) and it's a perfect fit! It's always nice when things go like they should.

The Rotrex C38-81 with the 90mm pulley hiding behind it.

And there you have it! The spacious engine bay is all filled in thanks to Kraftwerks.
This car is now putting down 415whp / 275 lbs-ft torque with the addition of it's new Skunk2 header.

Here it is all back together and waiting to be driven home! For those of you who are curious, it got more then just the supercharger its self. The kit also includes:

• Grams Performance 1,000cc/min. High Impedance Fuel Injectors w/ Plug-and-Play Connectors
• Grams Performance 265lph High Flow Fuel Pump
• Aluminum Intercooler Piping
• Oil Cooler – for supercharger
• High-Quality CNC-machined Brackets, Idler Pulley, and Tensioner
• Recirculating Bypass Valve

Check us out online, and our available Kraftwerks kits below!

Here's some pictures for a MK7 Golf R we got our hands on the other day...

This car came in for an APR intake, AWE Switchpath system with the 102mm chrome tips, a APR Stage 1 93 Octane High Torque ECU Flash, and an APR DSG remap.

Any of these make for a great first mod, but it only gets better when you match them up!

No appointments are necessary for software flashes, just call us a hour ahead and let us know you're coming!

Here you can see the 102mm chrome tips the AWE system has to offer, so shiny! The fit and finish of these pieces are truly great!

Here's a picture of the intake. APR's Carbonio adding a little bit of extra flare and power!

We're the north eastern distributor for APR, MSS, AWE, StopTech, Milltek, and many more!
For those of you who are on the German side, you can find our online store here: Excelerate's European Store - European Performance Specialist - Homepage

Feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions.

Happy modding!

Hey Acurazine

We've been steadily working on a K-Swapped 1994 Honda Civic EG. We're using Avid Mounts, K-Tuned swap parts, and Hybrid Racing swap parts.
Oh, and it's a JDM K20a Type-R motor from an RSX; with somewhere between 40-50k miles!

His Civic was in great shape, and the new motor matched. With our parts chosen and on order we got going! Here's a couple pictures:

This is the old D-Series motor we pulled out, pretty boring looking.

Here's the empty engine bay. Pulling the old motor was painless; relocating the ABS module was not since EGs with ABS are few and far between.
This presented an issue when we lowered the new motor in since it rubs on the headers; but the ChaseBays relocation kit/proportioning valve eased our headache

The K20a with K-Tuned swap headers peaking out from behind.

What's the old saying? If the shoe doesn't fit, make it fit?

Here's the new motor in bay and bolted down.
We're missing the radiator along many other necessary parts, but we'll post some more pictures when it's done!

You can find a slightly more in depth write up here: : Excelerate Performance : Building of the K20a EG : - 8th Generation Honda Civic Forum

Twin Turbo Lamborghini Gallardo

About 6 years ago we dropped a Heffner twin turbo kit into this 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo, and today it came back for maintenance.

(and a couple other goodies soon to come)

Here it sits in unit 1 keeping all of our Hunter equipment company. Looks perfectly normal to us...

Underneath the deck lid in the back is a different story however. Here you can see 915hp power plant that keeps a smile on it's owners face.

There will be more to come when we get some parts in, this is just a teaser for now.

NSX Maintenance

We got to see one of our local NSXs this week! It's a 1997 Spa Yellow NSX-T, and it's pretty sweet!

It was in for a variety of maintenance work to ensure it's running just as good another 20 years down the road as it is now.

Here's are some glamor shots:

It did more then just look good on this visit however, here's some of what we did:

It got new head gaskets, valve cover gaskets, and an oil change; along with a brake flush and new coolant hoses!

It also got cam plugs and some new exhaust hangars. Back in tip-top shape!

For all of those in the New England area, keep us in mind for all your maintenance needs, we have tons of dealer diagnostic tools and the skills to use them!

We got our hands on a S3 last week, it came in for a good mix of performance and visual upgrades, here's the build break down:

MSS Fully Adjustable Sport Kit
StopTech Big Brake Kit
APR Intercooler
APR ECU Flash
E-Code Headlights

Time for some pictures, those are worth a 1,000 words after all:

Can't put the new parts on without taking the old ones off! When this car meets the ground again it will be lower, and faster...

Some of the new hardware: StopTech 4 piston calipers, Zinc slotted 2 peice rotors, and don't forget the stainless steel lines!

The fully adjustable track pack laid out ready for install.

Tearing down the front end for the new intercooler and headlights, you can see Bobby trying to hide (not too well).

Freshly installed E-Code headlights. It's crazy how much they clean up the front end without the amber corners.

We certainly love red, but the blue calipers are a nice way to stand out a bit!

The finished product! Just waiting for one happy owner...

A little while ago a customer was refereed to us by Accuair, and when we heard the plan we couldn't help but get excited.

He has a 1964 Lincoln Continental, it's in killer shape, and it's about to be a whole lot lower. He came to us with Devious Customs struts along with their cross-member lift kit (for the extra lows) and control arm setup. He picked up an Accuair eLevel kit with their new Endo tank and some compressor mounting brackets to help keep the 2 compressors hidden, and the setup looking clean. When we had our hands on the new kit it was finally time to see the car...

Here's some pictures:

The Lincolns first taste of "air time".

A super clean interior to match the outside.

The Devious Customs goodies laid out and waiting for powder coat.

We'll have more pictures coming soon, stay tuned for the final product!

Don't forget to check us out for all your air ride needs!

A while ago we started breaking down a 1994 Honda Civic EG to make some room for it's new power plant, a JDM K20a Type-R.

Last week our little project came to an end, and it's owner came to pick it up; but we had to get a couple quick pictures first!

It's in pretty good shape for a 94!

As it sits here is has about 200k on the body, somewhere around 40K on the motor; and is as close to rust free as you can get!

A couple of the key parts used:

Hasport Swap Mounts, Hybrid Racing Intake, Hybrid Racing Shifter Cables
Hybrid Racing Radiator, Ktuned Auto Tensioner Pulley
Hybrid Racing Fuel Rail/Fuel Pressure Regulator
Chase Bays ABS Delete Kit ,StopTech Slotted Rotors w/ Street Performance Pads
Ktuned 4-2-1 Swap Headers and a catback exhaust is coming soon!

If you have any questions about our K-Swap, or are thinking about doing one for yourself feel free to contact us!

2002 TL Type-S: Born Again

About a month or so ago a customer called us to let us know that the head gaskets on his motor went, and his 2002 Acura TL Type S had reached the end of it's life.

Always a sad day when the car you love isn't in great shape, but that's why we're here! With low mileage motors costing less then a rebuild, that seemed like the way to go for sure.

We got our hands on the new motor and got working:

We gave it a once over to make sure this was going to last him as long as possible, but the once over turned into some good old fashioned maintenance.

Since the engine was already out of the car and it certainly wouldn't hurt anything we gave it a good refresh consisting of:

Spark Plugs
Thermostat
Timing Belt
Water Pump
Rear Main Seal
Front Crank Seal
Radiator/Heater Hoses
Radiator

Once the maintenance was taken care of we could start adding on some shiny bits.

He wanted to get some XLR8 goodies installed to keep the new motor company, no better place for that then the one and only! The new mods list includes:

XLR8 Motor Mounts
XLR8 High Flow Cat
XLR8 Crank Pulleys
P2R Throttle Body Gasket
P2R Manifold Gasket

Below you can see the car with the new motor installed, back and better than ever!

While the car was here the customer also wanted to put some new life back into the headers. He couldn't just buy a new set, you might ask why?

Well, that's because they were made by CT Engineering, and have been discontinued for quite a while.

We cleaned some carbon out of them and then sent them off for a ceramic coating. They came back to us looking better then ever!

And as always, here's a picture of the car waiting to be picked up! ...

For those of you looking for a reputable shop we have dealer diagnostic tools, an experienced team, and a love for cars!

The post may be a couple days late, but I just wanted to share our 4th of July celebration here at Excelerate performance!

Was it a party? No, but we did celebrate with some serious horsepower gains (144 to be exact) on this 28,000 mile old 2008 Shelby GT500.

More power and a killer sound is what he was going for, so we set him up with a Steeda Ultimate Power Pack (and a new exhaust), and got the ball rolling!

Their package includes:

Steeda Cold Air Intake
Steeda Supercharger Pulley
SCT X4 Tuner w/ Steeda Custom Tune
CSF Tripple Pass Head Exchanger w/ Fans

Now that the little build break down is out of the way, we can get to some pictures...

His new Kooks exhaust ready to roar.

Steeda's supercharger pulley - not only does it allow for some extra boost, it looks good while doing it!

The CSF heat exchanger hanging out. All the extra power makes for some pretty decent heat soak, but this definitely helps fight that!

We're doing yet another air ride install this week, this time it's on a MK4 R32.

It's getting AirLift Performance struts, Accuair eLevel air management, and some new Vossen wheels to put under the fender.

Here are some pictures of the progress:

AirLift Performance struts waiting to be installed...

Not our first encounter with Accuair's new Endo tanks.

Accuair's height sensors tucked up and away making sure everything maintains an even drop.

It's always nice when the little things match!

A proper frame notch - cut, welded, and coated; almost looks like it's supposed to be there!

The trunk setup all mocked up and ready to go in.

Pictures of the finished product should be up soon since we're planning to have this wrapped up by the end of the week, stay tuned!

For anyone looking to purchase or have an air ride kit, or have one installed, send us an email at sales@excelerateperformance.com and we'll get you setup!

Some pictures of the finished R32 project we did for Waterfest this year:

The first test fit, aired out and looking nice

A nice, simple, and clean trunk setup.

Wheel fitment with brake fitment to match, doesn't get much better!

We also had another Waterfest car we were wrapping up, an RS4 converted wagon, beauty shots are below:

The RS4 badge earned it's place on this fully converted wagon.

Brembos, HREs, and a some RE71Rs. Perfect.

Not to mention this green is a shop favorite.

We've been busy doing some suspension upgrades to a couple local cars!
A 2012 Accord coupe was in for a set of KWs, and a 2007 TL Type-S came in for the iconic Koni Yellow and H&R setup.

Here's a couple pictures:

The customer called in looking to get a solid set of coilovers under him, he was looking at KW V1s and STs; needless to say he was already on the right path!
Since both setups come with factory pre-set dampening to ensure the best ride, the choice is ultimately between the materials used and, the warranty behind the product.
After some consideration he went with the superior materials and 5 year warranty on the KWs. Some extra protection is never a bad idea for New England cars!

Here you can see the car getting everything straightened out and road ready on our Hunter Hawkeye Alignment rack!

There more ways to lower your car then a coilover setup. Sure, Tein makes a good product, but Koni makes a nicely finished, well performing product as well!
Konis make for a great "set it and forget it" type setup for those who don't want to raise and lower their car season to season, or worry about crazy alignments.
Match them with a set of H&R (or Eibach springs if you want them a tad bit softer), a half turn of dampening adjustment, and a spring perch adjustment if you're looking for some extra drop; and you're good to go!

Here you can see the TL up on the lift, waiting to get back on the ground and start eating corners.
We're much more then an online store, feel free to give us a call and set up your appointment today!

Our Week...

Hey AZ,

We're coming up on a long weekend and I thought I'd give our shop thread a little update.

We had a pretty busy week, but there were definitely some unique jobs.

We had a JDM icon in house, we got the twin turbo Lamborghini back in good health, and we helped bring a Bi-Turbo E63 AMG closer to the ground. Pictures below!

Customer installed some Tomei cam gears and needed some help confirming timing, good thing we have you covered regardless of the county of origin!

Rear view of the GT-R. Pretty darn clean for something that came out a decade before GameCube!

We recently pulled the turbos off the Lamborghini and sent them in to be rebuilt. We got them back in last week, and got them back on; good as new!

They hydraulic lift assist in the front shocks had also failed, so needless to say we figured we'd address that quick while we had it in the shop!

Got some parts on order from California and a couple days later we had everything ready to go.

KW HAS Springs going into this 2014 e63 AMG to keep the serious looking OE brake setup company.

Only 2,800 miles on the car? It's never too soon to start modding.

Sitting pretty, and lower of course, waiting for it's owner!

A pair of Subarus stopped by the shop this week and we couldn't resist a picture...

The STI was in for some new G-Froce Rivals, brakes, and an alignment. We hope to see it again soon for aero bits and a motor build. This car does see quite a bit of track time after all!

The WRX was in for a Cobb Accessport, Mishimoto intake, and the tune to go with it. Great place to start!

We're also getting close to finishing up our Lincoln project! Tank is being installed in the trunk, and the bags are in place.

Above (front) and below (rear) you can see the new arm kits, and the air bags in place ready to lay this car on the ground.

An engine bay shot shows how clean this 53 year old car really is!

More to come soon!

We had a pretty busy week last week. Quite a few brake jobs mixed with the usual exhaust/downpipe installs, an APR clutch pack, and of course the Lincoln Continental.

Here are some pictures of the other jobs to keep everyone entertained until the Lincoln is done!

Here's a StopTech kit we did for a customer on his B8.5 S4 this week.
We like to recommend StopTech because their parts fit great, perform great, and look even better.

A Porsche getting a brake flush and alignment, all without ever leaving the Hunter Alignment rack - fancy!

A cat back system we did on a customers Allroad.
He got it wrapped recently, so he decided it was time to make the car as loud as it looked. Thanks for the downpipe and exhaust AWE!

Show casing the new color a little - but also keeping it hidden under the road dust. Perks of being a New England car I guess!

Apr Stage 3 Efr Kit

We had a MK7 Golf R in the shop for the last couple days getting some big upgrades courtesy of APR.

When stage 2 isn't enough for you that means it's time for a new turbo!

Some pictures of the install are below. The car also got an upgraded clutch, and a couple other goodies to help put the power down.

The new setup is good to 522hp, can get you going 140mph 15 seconds sooner then a stock Golf R, and can put down a 1/4 mile pass in 10 seconds.

Not bad!

The kit comes with a new downpipe, turbo hoses, gaskets, and everything else you'll need for install; right down to the software!

The Borg Warner twin scroll EFR7163 delivers amazing top end power, with incredible response, all while keeping things reliable.

Stock-like turbo lag makes for an upgrade that lacks the compromises you would expect from an engine this size.

Stage 3+ is up next, so stay tuned for an upgraded fuel setup and some big numbers!

We had a customer stop by the shop this morning to show us his new NSX.

Sure beats standing around a water cooler for the morning gossip!

The Nouvelle Blue Pearl and HRE P201s make this hard not to look at.

And for those of you who were curious, the Lincoln left late Friday night. All wrapped up and ready to burn some grass.

We'll have some pictures of the finished product soon! Here's the Endo tank setup for now!

The long awaited Lincoln project got wrapped up last week, here are some pictures of the final product:

The last trip on the stance dyno - making sure everything is functioning properly throughout all the height ranges.

Needless to say, we love how it looks all the way down!

Parked out front, looking as clean and as mean as ever.

This car really is in great shape, and we're super happy with the end result.

Thanks to Devious Customs and Accuair for the bits and pieces that went into giving this oldie an update!

The owner is super excited to get out and get cruising, catch us at Staggered this weekend!

One of our regular customers stopped by last week with his STI for a Crawford Air Oil Separator install.

He also grabbed a Killer B oil pan, pickup, and baffle for some added assurance.

The Killer B v2 oil pan looks super clean.

It holds an extra 1.4 quarts of oil, and works great with the Killer B baffle to make sure your EJ series engine never runs dry!

A local customer stopped by the shop with his super clean E36 M3 so we could take a look at some suspension noise he was getting.

Once we got that rectified it saw some time on the Hunter Hawk Eye alignment rack, and left better then ever!

We had a local customer stop by last week with his 2017 Honda Civic Si for a tune.

He ended up going with the Ktuner V2 end user kit. This kit is quickly becoming our favorite home tuning solution on the market.

The V2 features a 5" touch screen, real time data read-out, space for up to 5 maps, and a CNC outer shell to make this a solid product all around!

Ktuner had quite a few maps available for this platform, but the customer knew what he was after requested the split 19/23psi map.

That means when the car is in a normal driving mode it runs 19psi of boost, and when you enable sport mode, it turns the boost numbers up to 23psi!

Although it's only a few extra PSI, it's enough to feel, and enough to hear!

Updating and registering the device for our customer.

We should be seeing the car again soon enough for a set of downpipes!

The 2017 Civic Si we did the KTuner V2 on a couple months ago ended up back in the shop for a laundry list of upgrades!

Last time it was a simple flash, and it looks like the owner really caught the mod bug off that one! Here's some of what is going on this visit:

Downpipe/Front Pipe Combo, Charge Piping
Motor Mounts, Flex Fuel Kit, Lowering Springs
W-Frame Brace, Pro-Tune, Sway Bar Links, Clutch,
Pads, Rotors, and Stainless Steel Lines

Some pictures of the process can be seen below. We're not done quite yet, so expect a couple more to come!

The Civic Si up on the lift being pulled apart for it's long list of upgrades. Shooting for about 300hp next time it's back on the ground...

In case anyone was curious what a voided warranty looked like, here you can see exactly that.

The fitment and finish of the PRL downpipe/front pipe combo is great! Who doesn't love pretty looking welds to go with their extra power!

The new AEM charge pipe in place! This free flowing mandrel bent aluminum piece takes the place of the restrictive factory intercooler piping, offering gains up to 12hp!

80a rear Boomba motor mount freshly installed. This little guy helps reduce wheel hop and put more power to the ground.

Hey Acurazine,

Not the usual shop thread post, but we figured it would be cool to share!

We recently received some pictures of a fresh batch of 3G TL systems on the work bench waiting to be sent out!

Hey Acurazine,

It's been a busy summer here at Excelerate so we figured it would be a good time to update the shop thread!

The white 10th Gen Si from a little while ago came back to us for a big turbo, new FMIC, and a couple other supporting mods!

Filling in the space behind the bumper with a bigger PRL intercooler, Koyo aluminum radiator, and a SiriMoto oil cooler.

27Won drop-in turbo upgrade is nothing but quality right down to the hardware. Great looking piece too!

The new compressor wheel is 59% larger than stock, and the turbine wheel is 61% larger.

Boost is currently limited at ~30 PSI due to the lack of aftermarket MAP sensors, but it has more in it!

Once sensors are available something tells me it will be back on the dyno.

The car ended up putting down some good numbers after the most recent round of upgrades, pushing over 150hp per 3/4 liter!

The 64 Continental we installed Accuair's eLevel kit on also returned for a set of new wheels and a pair of white walls to complete the look!

We also shaved some height off a new TLX A-Spec with a set of H&R Sport Springs!

More coming soon!

XLR8 Winter Update

Hey Acurazine,

It has turned into a busy winter for us as well, but wanted to share some work we recently wrapped up!

Since the last update we have done quite a bit of work on some new popular platforms.

This Type-R with just under 2,000 miles on the dash was one of them:

The RV6 downpipe is a great looking piece that offers some serious gains!

The PRL front mount intercooler is not lacking in quality either! With it's larger core and billet end tanks this upgrade is one that's hard to say no to!

Injen cold air intake installed as well to help this monster breath a little easier along with it's turbo back exhaust!

Flashed the new map on the ECU thanks to the Ktuner V2!

Civic Type R > VW Golf R?

We also got a chance to do an air ride setup on a 2018 Volkswagen Golf R (MK7.5) before it needed it's first oil change!

A couple of pictures of that process below:

AirLift Performance series struts helping this car perform as good as it looks!

AccuAir's Endo CVT tank installed with all wiring tucked underneath the floor. Can't forget their eLevel sensors either!

Aired out and looking sharp!

We also installed some IND goodies on a 2018 M2 including their polar blue seat belts, start/stop button, and a new pedal set!

Who doesn't love those body lines?!

We couldn't forget about the other TLX A-Spec we did either! This car came in for some tasteful mods.

You can find some more info on it by clicking on the image below!

Jared's 2018 TLX A-Spec AWD fits together so well!

Feel free to send us a PM or check us out online if you're looking to get some parts or work done to your vehicle!

Hey Acurazine!

Just taking a moment to update the install thread with some things we have seen in the shop recently!

We had another 2018 TLX A-Spec in for some lows, rather than H&Rs this time, we ended up installing BC Racing BR series coilovers!

These offer 30 clicks of adjustable dampening, and 2"+ of drop adjustable through the lower mount to keep ride quality consistent.

BCs finding their new home for the first time!

Bob dialing the alignment in on our Hunter Hawkeye Elite alignment rack.

Eibach's alignment kit helping get this car back to factory settings!

All buttoned up waiting for the customer!

Around the same time, we had a customer swing by with his S6 to have this beautiful Akrapovic exhaust installed.

Getting everything unboxed and soaking in the craftsmanship.

Ryan getting everything adjusted as evenly as possible!

Great fitment, subtle looks, and an aggressive sound. Doesn't get much better than that!
