GTA - Anything to look for when buying a used 2006-2008 Acura TL?
Hello everyone in the GTA,
I was looking at a new Hyundai Elantra but now settling for a used 2006-2008 Acura TL. Any advice to look for issues, what specifically should I be looking for?
I have already spent this week looking at 5 Acura TLs. Just Autotrader, Craigslist, Kijiji, CarPages. These are so far under $11,000 mark.
1st - 2008 - 130k - dealer already closed (rescheduled)
2nd - 2006 -140k - all 4 rims had scratches, probably curb damage, makes me worried on alignment
3rd - 2007 - 180k - scheduled to test drive this weekend.
4th - 2006 - 130k - sold by the time I got there.
5th - 2006 - 240k - way too many kms, but decent shape.
I noticed a lot of these members manage to keep their acuras under 100k since 2006, but I understand daily use causes the cars on average should be at the 140-180k mark. (20k-30k/yr)
Would appreciate some advice seeing this will be my first car purchased.
Looking forward to actually joining the GTA Acurazine group.
Thanks,
Tim

Thanks for the reply, I am not looking for a MT "Look for a third pedal" since my girlfriend can not drive MT.
Great advice on the Timing belt service and will take note.
Scratched all the way around on all 4 rims? how is that even possible. a few scratches but the full circumference?

you have to understand that Acura's dont have the best auto transmission.
if you do buy an automatic, be sure to have at least $2000 saved up for an auto trans replacement.
the manual transmissions are bullet proof.
my 2006 6MT TL currently has 71k miles on it and I plan to keep her for 10-15 years.
full circumference scratched rims means the previous owner made one whole rotation on a curb.
not hard to do at all.
some one do the math! a 17 inch rim at 70mph will take how long to make one full rotation?
