I used www.bluenile.com and was very happy with my purchase. When we went to a local store to get my band and have hers cleaned they even said it was a very nice diamond.

You can find the best deal at local Jewelry stores, try and stay away from the chain stores. And it's best to get a GOOD diamond, read about the four C's on diamonds before you buy. Getting a colorless better clarity is better than a big one.

Some good advice given already...Also, if you think she'll like Tiffany, try getting a quote there and seeing what you can get with the specs you request.
And whatever you do, don't get ring advice from a billionaire named BustedJack because he got ripped off despite being a self-professed genius.

2 more points.
1) Before you go looking, make sure you know what shape. (round, princess, oval, pear, etc). The 4 Cs will be a little different for each one. One shape may need to be D color, where another can be G color and no real difference.
2) Go look at diamonds in a local store before you make any purchase. Continuing on #1 above.. I was going to get a D-F color princess diamond.. I decided to just visit a local store to see what they had.. the guy pulled out a G color diamond and it was amazing. He said the average consumer really couldn't tell a difference b/w E/F - G/H for the princess cut. I went back home and changed my search for a diamond..
I ended up getting a bigger diamond, lower color, for the same price as I was going to pay. Like I said before, the diamond I got looks really good.

I got my wife a .83 with another .20 in the setting, very clean for about 4k, 14 yrs ago, if she loves you you don't have to spend a fortune. If you do have to spend a fortune...

So true. I asked my ex not to buy anything larger than 0.75. We were both still in school, and it just wouldn't have made sense.

The advice given already is good. Look around at the local stores and compare online. Stay away from the mall. 2ct is pretty darn big, so make sure the stone won't look too rediculous on your future fiancees hand.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Good luck with the purchase because you're going to be shelling out some serious money for a 2 ct stone in good clarity and color. Hope you've been saving up...

Not true.. Round diamonds are more expensive than princess cut diamonds.

That's pretty close to the ring I got my wife, but added a few channel set stones on both sides to match the wedding band we chose.

Just played around on bluenile;
Your Ring
This Four-Prong Ring in 18k White Gold has a 1.37 carat Emerald-Cut diamond with Good-cut, J-color, and SI2-clarity.

This one (princess cut):
In a cathedral setting IMHO. The cathedral setting is thicker and will look nice with the wedding ring.

since you are planning for a much larger diamond, i would go as clear and clean as possible. i would stay in the d-f and no worse than vs2.
I think that when you have a large stone like that, you will see the imperfections more and the color will be more noticable. For this type of stone with papers and excellent dimensions, i would expect to spend 25-30k.

I would need to look at the paperwork; but, I believe I paid roughly $7k for a .75ct VVS/G 8 years ago. Of course, that was with a gold setting which she has since upgraded to platinum. It's the perfect size for her hand and she still loves it.

Be a real man and get a ticket to Africa and mine your own
Besides, it'll pay for the plane ticket and then some if you're successful

btw paid 3500 for a .9 round d/si1 a few years ago. I know where the flaw is, and it is eye clean, so most people would never see it.
And insure it too. Get a ryder on your renters/homeowners. I think i pay around $70 a year for it. They value replacement around 7500 so who knows.
