Getting a better physique should help your confidence levels, but I think you need to work on building some self esteem first.
You need to take the plunge and just go out there and talk to girls. Get rejected a few time, it builds character.
One of the things I did in college was to replace some of geekier hobbies like hanging out in the pool hall all the time and instead take up a sport. You can meet people as well as have a good workout.
Also, your environment can contribute to your character...if you hang out with only nerds/geeks all the time, thats what people will percieve you as. Start making some friends that enjoy other activities.

actually i think the main reason that asians are generally perceived dorky and nerdy are due to their parents, not the media. Most asian parents stress school work and more school work to their kids at a very young age and as a result the asian kids are not involved in sports nor do they goto many social events and they grow up to be nerdy dorky men just like their parents. Inner city african american kids are the total opposite, and many of them grow up to be just like their parents.
