Anyone tried Speed Dating?
This sort of feels like it should go under dating/relationships but I don't think so.
I've been curious about it for a while, so I decided to finally go. There is an 'Asian speed dating' thing in manhattan so at least it was -slightly- narrowed down.
For this one, 50 girls & 50 guys went. I guess they ordered by age - they split into 5 groups, 10 pairs each. The time varies from event to event, but in this one, you talked to someone for 5 minutes, then you had a 1 minute 'eval' period.
You can take notes and check yes/no on a piece of paper.
Then you switch, and do it 9 more times. If both of you check yes, then they email each other your e-mail addresses, and you can meet again.
5 minutes is basically enough time to ask a couple of 'important questions' like say, 'where do you live', or 'what nationality are you - (7 chinese, 2 japanese, 1 vietnamese in my group) . Then a little bit of time to talk about something else - cats, movies, vacation, whatever.
I wouldn't call it dating - you don't have enough time to know the person. You can get a feel about how well you can talk to each other, but that's about it.
It's more like going to a party and talking to different people for a few minutes each. Except you at least know each girl is single, looking, and around your age.
Overall, I think it's pretty cool.

There were plenty of 'anyone between ages XX and YY' speed dating events.
That's just a BIT too open season. So the event I went to is an Asian
only event. Although 'Asian' could be LOTS of things - If it's Asia, heck,
could be Indian or Russian.
For guys it was $25. Haven't found out results yet, although I just
said yes to 6/10.
As far as the 'official' stuff goes - you only speed date with the people
in your group. If people mingle after/before, then you can also try to
meet people then. But as far as the really intense part - trust me, 10
is -plenty-. I didn't take any notes in between people and by person #8
my brain was starting to melt.
I did manage to keep each conversation different, but I can't remember
which person was the one who liked cats anymore, or snowboarding, or
Alaska or what!

some girls were cute, but you don't expect hotties to need to bother with speed dating.
Speed macing, maybe.
There was one girl who was pretty but I didn't like her at all, so she got the big no.

Sounds like the fancy dating club for those who try to get the quick peek and the first impression. Where is that club? How could you find it? Tons of parties/meeting are in Manhattan everyday and night.

I miss my 03 CL-S :(
Reviving this one after a conversation with a female co-worker that tried it and thought I may want to give it a shot. She mentioned http://www.8minutedating.com as the site for the organizers of the event she went to.
It's $40.00 for one coming up in DC. I'm not sure it's worth it... she said it was fun but nobody to 'sweep her off her feet', but she didn't expect that anyway. You figure $40 + a few drinks = lots of $$$ to maybe meet one or two girls that may be worth calling and may be worth more than 8 minutes? I dunno... I'm not buying it. Then again, it may beat a $40 subscription to an online dating site.
Anyone else tried this?
