I don't have a pellet grill, still researching. I assumed that price looking at the apple, cherry, etc. pellets on recteq at $20 per 18 pound bag plus tax and shipping. Looking around more now, that's definitely high compared to places like Costco. 50 cents an hour for fuel isn't too shabby.
Did a thing over the weekend. It may not be a Recteq but it was too good to pass on. Found a Pit Boss Sportsman 1600 on the local marketplace within 1 mile from my house and for $350. It will definitely get my feet wet without breaking the bank on one. The guy used to be a salesman for Pit Boss and this was a demo grill he had for 1 year. Could use a couple new pieces, (clearly was left outside, most likely on a trailer). Used it last night to make some chicken and burgers. Turned out pretty good. Can't wait to try other things/recipes.
Congrats on the new cooking rig. Sounds like a pretty great deal and I am sure it will server you well for many years. How is the autostart?
Haven't had much play time with it yet. I just turned it on and cranked it to 500 to clean off racks and adjusted the temp to cook my dinner. Once I have more time I will set up the wifi/bluetooth and play with the probes. Need to find something to smoke now.
Bluetooth app is kinda so-so. Not sure if I will use it. The probes that came with didn't read correctly, Might try new pitboss probes or just get some thermpro ones. Any recommendations welcome for those. Made a quick Mesquite Pork Tenderloin last night. I will try it seared next time for a crisp shell. So juicy tho!
I've got this one, only used it a couple times, but works well. Have used in the smoker [small brisket] & the oven in the house [same brisket & 2 Thanksgiving turkeys]. https://www.thermoworks.com/smoke/
