A Suicide Squad game from Batman Arkham series developer Rocksteady is in development, with a full announcement coming in two weeks.
The studio teased the announcement in a movie poster-style tweet on Friday morning, showing Superman in the crosshairs of the super-villain squad. More will be shared on Aug. 22, Rocksteady said.
The teaser confirms rumors earlier this summer that a Suicide Squad game was in the works. In June, users on ResetEra discovered a couple of domains registered to Rocksteady that referenced Suicide Squad; Eurogamer subsequently reported that it and a game based on Gotham Knights, made by WB Montreal and teased repeatedly over the past year, would be revealed at DC FanDome, which is Aug. 22.
One of those URLs (SuicideSquadKillTheJusticeLeague.com) appears to be a good indicator of the game’s premise, based on the teaser poster, which features an evil-looking Superman.
Rocksteady’s last game was 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight, a widely acclaimed finale to the Batman Arkham series that the studio began in 2009. The success of Batman: Arkham Asylum led to Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment acquiring Rocksteady in 2010.
The Suicide Squad was adapted into a film by the same name for the DC Cinematic Universe in 2016, starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Her character was spun off into a standalone movie, Birds of Prey, which premiered earlier this year. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has since been tapped to write and direct a Suicide Squad sequel, to premiere in August 2021. That film will also be showcased at DC FanDome.
