Tourist Trophy: the 2-wheel Gran Turismo

fine, don't play it.
there's only so far you can go with a motorcycle simulator on a console... or any platform for that matter. it's very tricky and honestly judging from the riding styles and some of the screenshots I think Polyphony has come closest to the real thing. One of the pics shows the bike going sideways a bit, like they do in Moto GP and such... you won't see that in too many other bike games, if any.

Maybe all the bikes have steering dampeners to prevent tank slappers.
I read on IGN that spills and crashes happen, but I doubt any damage to the bike will happen. I'm sure it'll be like MotoGP only better.

Japanese release is set at 12/31/05. Keeping in mind previous Polyphony release timelines - I estimate that release will be pushed back to about.... March 2006. That being said, I think we'll see this game in North America around Spring-Fall 2006. :<

I think with this game, it's not going to appeal as much to real-world riders as it is to wannabe riders . That is, it's purpose is going to be more of a "novelty" for real-world riders. Simulating a motorcycle with a modern-day video game controller is just not going to happen effectively. The main issue is the twist throttle - you just can't get that feeling with a normal controller, and if its a custom controller that allows for it, its still going to be odd. I remember there was a controller that would twist back in the day.. I suppose you could do something with that, but then how would you steer at the same time? :<
Au contraire though, people who own bikes that are featured in this game will want to get it - there's always a nice feeling about piloting your "own" vehicle in a game...
So you have the same issue with cars and the PS2 controller (or any video game controller short of a steering wheel, for that matter) - but with the throttle it isn't as "bad", imo - throttle is up, brake is down - similar motion to an accel pedal... steering is very different, a wheel can't compare to the 2" left-right motion of an analog stick... let alone buttons.
But - for people like me who don't ride motorcycles in real life (at least not the really fast kind, lol) - this is a nice opportunity to maybe feel the thrill, or get close to it, without putting ourselves in danger since we are n00bs. Who knows, it maybe even could influence someone like me in the direction of getting a bike - indeed I've always wanted one. Video games such as this are becoming big business and are on the minds of manufacturers. Gran Turismo is the best example of this - it has influenced our generation so much that people even cite it as one of the reasons the Skyline is coming here. GT3 sold over 11 million copies worldwide, and GT4 sold more than that. Incidentally, GT4 is the top-selling game across all genres and all platforms, for the first half of 2005... read about it here, along with the top 10. Analysts are predicting exponential gains in the coming years as technology reaches new levels and the age range of gamers continues to get larger.
With the next-generation gaming systems right around the corner, this is like the best time for gamers. /rambling

I agree it would be very difficult to "simulate" riding a bike in a console game. That being said they can do alot in terms of making it close to being realistic. With things like downshifting mid corner and what that does to a bike, tank-slappers, when hitting an object on a bike, (like a guardrail or large curb..etc) you will go down.
I'm sure they can have good settings like arcade vs. simulator....So that you can have the best of both worlds.
